- No Exit is/was Mark Hons (16), Bruce Wate (16), Sean Newton (aka Scruff) (15), and manager Vijay Sondhi (16). This is Vancouver’s very first punk album released May 25th, 1980. (before even DOA). The DIY album is housed with a xeroxed cover of the Clash record with their own faces and spray-painted "No Exit".
Grant McDonagh (founder of Zulu Records, then at Quintessence Records) put up the $800 it cost to produce the self-titled album. The vinyl LP was originally $3.99. Today it goes for $1,200 - the most expensive Vancouver record you can buy. They pressed 200 copies. No Exit played their last gig on August 13, 1983. Видеоклипы
Good to hear this again! In 1980 I came from London to Vancouver to stay with the anarchists of the Open Road newspaper. I dropped into a record shop and someone told me they'd just got some of these LPs. It was so good I got 4 copies to take back to England, and I went to see CRASS and gave them a couple of copies for sharing around. I probably still have a copy buried in my attic somewhere..
@davetotenham - you must have been in the right place and the right time! Cheers.
I have some great photos of them from a Seattle show. They were on the bill with my then-boyfriend's band, and stayed the weekend in our apartment. We fit 19 people into a studio apartment and nobody slept in the bathtub! *waves hi at Scruff through Wren*
I would love to see your photos @deadrose23 - can you share them?
Hey fun fact: my dad was actually in this band! He's Sean! It's great that you uploaded this (now I can show all my friends lol), and he also says that your information is bang on- good job on your research!
Saw 'em at Eric Hamber High School. ..I think 1980
Wow. Was that like a sanctioned H.S. event or what? How were they? Tell me more.
Doesn't surprise me. Rumor has it Led Zep played there once during lunch time (www.vancourier.com/news/song-remains-the-same-over-rumours-led-zeppelin-played-at-eric-hamber-high-school-1.2219445)
