Hi guys! Today I am finally sharing a health related update. As many of you know, I deal with PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) which is a very severe case of PMS. In this video, I share symptoms, what led up to my diagnosis, my frustrations with options/ accessibility to natural remedies, how I manage symptoms and treatment for PMDD. In addition to PMDD, I share my experience with seasonal depression and anxiety and what my thoughts are after starting the SSRI antidepressant, Zoloft (sertaline) in combination with therapy (better help). Mental health awareness is something I do not take lightly, please be aware this video may have trigger points for some.

Not to be racist . But I have been searching so long to find a black woman around my age who is experiencing the same thing. This makes me feel so much better ❤️.
I am 22 I have been suffering with this since 9 years old . This disordered has ruined may relationships, jobs, opportunities, etc . I really try so hard to push past it but it’s really mentally exhausting. I just feel better in my bed sleeping my life away .
The oversleeping to getting no sleep . Being highly active to being non active . I experience this 2 1/2 weeks out of the month . So basically 70% of the month . It feels like my life is basically just to live through this and make it through this . As long as I can do that I feel like I accomplished so much but then I realized I’m literally battling myself and have actually done nothing in reality .

With PMDD, A study was shown that most woman who have it , have had some sort of traumatic childhood from verbal, physical or sexual abuse, or seeing a loved one experiencing trauma. Also the trauma could also come from having sick parent and a them having to look after that sick parent from a very young age. The list really does go on and on and cant really be whittled down to a list of a few things. How is this related to PMDD...? For some reason, the luteal phase of a womans cycle (7-14 days before her period) seems to be a big fat *TRIGGER* for becoming overly emotional, blaming the whole world for xyz, not feeling worthy, etc, etc. Once dealing with the unresolved trauma from childhood is PROPERLY dealt with, the, symptoms of PMDD seem to disappear. Happy to chat if you want more info :)

I’m 22 as well I’m just now looking into this my period literally takes over me and my mind I’m emotional, I want to cry about everything, and any everything pisses me off and I don’t understand why. I also have a bf and we never argue at all only when I’m on my period and it’s bad I get jealous and insecure and I’m not even that type but it’s like when my period comes my whole personality changes and I hate it he doesn’t understand it either I tried to tell him about it and only it’s one ear out the other maybe I’ll try again because I literally cannot keep going through this . it’s so draining

my 12 yo grand daughter started her menses at age 10 and within a few months became angry, depressed, then suicidal and cutting herself. Just a few weeks ago a psychiatrist finally diagnosed her with this illness, PMDD and put her on 10mg prozac. The change was almost immediate...3 days later she is eating, sleeping, smiling, not suicidal anymore. I am so happy.Happy.Happy as I am the one raising her, never heard of this desease before but when I read it I shared with her pediatrician, he sent her to psychiatrist and she agreed with my diagnosis. I have my happy, beautiful, delightful, enjoyable brown like you only grandchild back again. I just wanna thank my God for allowing us to get a diagnosis that is finally helping her. Before this a therapist said she had ODD a mental illness that can lead to pathological conduct disorder. She was misdiagnosed as a problem child when she had a problem of wrong diagnosis and now is herself again, TY Jesus!

I have pmdd. I was put on zoloft for many years of my past life. It was good at first then I needed stronger and stronger and then it hit me to a flat line. I ended up feeling very suicidal and it effected my ability to be able to feel emotions. The best thing I did was come off them and surrender myself to god. He’s now helping me cope with it. Not to mention he took my terrible depression away. I find the more I focus on god the more I can cope with daily life.

This video is so brave, enlightening, informative, and is the story of millions of women who are afraid to ask for help! Thank you so much for sharing your stories. Now I'm just might share mine.
    Bria,
I can't express enough how happy I was to find your channel. Seeing another woman of color speak about this made me happier! I too want to find a solution and not just a band aid. All the women of the world deserve to be acknowledged for the strength it takes to get through half of the month. Your light shines Bria and I am overjoyed you found Zoloft. Although I ambnot really into taking pills. It is satisfying to hear someone say they feel like themselves again 🤗

It sucks when there's a big event like a wedding or family reunion and I go look at my calendar (because I learned to keep track so I know when it well happen the following month) and see that big event is going to be when my PMDD is around.

I got off birth control about 7 months ago & after getting off experienced the worse mental health state of my life lol I also just turned 25 so theres been a lot of recent changes but Im 100% this is all effects of birth control which is soo because I know I am not like this and its my bodys way of detoxing from those harmful chemicals.. PMDD is real and I am 1000% what I experienced was PMDD

I have PMDD also. Been struggling for about a decade now. I am 29 yrs old and I can finally say, I am seeing progress on my journey. I have performed every holistic remedy on myself in an attempt to heal myself; because like you, my doctor prescribed me birth control as well (which RUINED my skin at the time) & made matters worse. I suffered years and years with depression, rage and loneliness, childhood traumas and poor diet. PMDD used to literally have a chokehold on my life! It was 2weeks or normal and 2weeks of pure hell. My entire perception of self was being altered each month I dealt with PMDD. Fast forward to now, I have switched to 100% organic products and a menstrual cup because I believe part of my illness was due to toxins I was putting into my womb. We really have to get clean from the inside out. Detoxing around that time of the month is a LIFE CHANGER. & I saw a lot of ladies advocate for cannabis as well; yes, IT WORKS. Yoga, meditation, music...all therapy & FREE. Do not allow these male doctors (female too) advise you on a situation they have never lived through! Thank you for speaking out, I know I am a year late but I am just finding our channel and have been binge watching your content.

I can't believe that no one ever mentioned this to me.
My mind is blown. I too am not constantly depressed. Only half the month. It's hard to figure out how you can be happy one day and then completely drowning and suicidal the next.
I have a lot of hormonal issues. Im 36 and I still get breakouts. I have a bicornate and tilted uterus. I have also developed melasma.
And i get the most excruciating cramps each month, which are completely debilitating.
I have also been diagnosed with ADHD for the second time in my life...( it was not taken seriously the first time, as a child). Which already makes it difficult for me to regulate my emotions. The week before my period I absolutely feel out of control and like I'm literally losing my mind. Even after months of therapy, I feel I have no control. It's scary and overwhelming.

I feel the what you're saying Bria ! I am almost 48 and I have been suffering from PMDD for at least 5 years! I haven't been diagnosed by a doctor because I don't really trust doctors and the traditional medical system. This issue can be very debilitating and it s scary. My hormones get out of wack and I have so much rage, sadness, arguing with people just very overwhelmed! I am hard on myself too but I
find that going out in nature helps me a ton. Writing in my journal, affirmations and yes Cannibis helps!!!! I have taken Zanax but I would never take birth control , I never trusted it even in my 20's. You are young but i believe that talking about it is very healing. thank you for being aware of your body and speaking out1 This assists other girls and women sooooooooo much. It is a serious thing. There have been times where i just want to give up but I'm a mom of two and i just try my best to calm my nerves naturally. I meditate and I just try to stay away from stressful toxic people or situations that can turn volatile. I wish you luck in your journey. Everyone has their choices on how to handle these hormones... I am just happy that these are now discussions and let's support one another. Women need more forums like these ! Love & Light

For PMDD, try taking Allegra the week before menstruation - it’s almost as if the body is having an allergic reaction to it’s own fluctuation in hormones. I have PMDD, and this plus vitamin B6, calcium, ashwaganda can ameliorate the symptoms. Doesn’t address the core, but helps to cope.

Wow! Thank you so much for this video! I’ve been in recovery for the passed 8 months and going to therapy for the first time and I’m in my early 30s. I’ve struggled with depression, anxiety, and bipolar mood swings since my teens. I’ve always thought there was just something wrong with me and I was crazy. Anti depressants have been suggested through out the years but I didn’t want to take them, because I didn’t feel anxious and suicidal all the time. I’ve only just recently discovered that these symptoms occur when I’m menstruating. Since I’ve realized this I’ve been researching PMS symptoms and the effects it has on our mental and physical health. Then I stumbled upon your video which is the best depiction of what its actually like going through PMDD from a personal experience and how much it reeks havoc on relationships and the work place, as I’ve had the same problems. I haven’t been diagnosed by a doctor yet but I’m 100% positive Ive had this for years but didn’t know exactly what was going on and having to struggle in silence that I might get shamed for my crazy emotional rollercoaster. I can’t believe I’m just now discovering this and how many other women suffer from this. I hope that amazing people like you keep getting the message out there and continue finding answers and sharing your experience! I can’t explain how much this video helped me understand that I’m NOT ALONE and what is REALLY going on with my body. I’m gonna keep continuing my search for answers. We need a PMDD support group 😅 💁🏻‍♀️ Sending love to all the women on this feed that struggle with this condition as it is serious and finding answers can change lives! 💗

Antidepressants have never worked for me, every kind I've tried has made me feel totally crazy even when it's "evened out." I feel weirdly robotic and numb when I take them. But anti anxiety medication works perfectly for my anxiety disorder and helps regulate my mood swings during the bad times along with taking extra supplements (fish oil, B Vitamin). Just goes to show that every one of us has a unique experience when it comes to our bodies, and nothing works the same for everyone. It's a whole journey discovering what works and that doesn't, and while it is so frustrating, when y oh u find things that work on a sustainable level it is the best feeling in the world.

I do have some interesting experiences with supplementation fixing my problem. It was a muscle test I got and the doctor gave me a huge list of 14+ different things to take. My symptoms were gone completely by period 2. Sadly months later I was bad at taking the supplements and got my PMDD back full swing and the supplements were not holding me down once I started them back up a significant amount of time. My lifestyle had changed a lot due to the pandemic and I think ultimately had different supplemental needs because of that. Unfortunately I didn’t get muscle tested again and just lived with some of the worse mental episodes I have ever experienced. It wasn’t till last summer I hit a mental breaking point. It was scary. I then saw a different doctor who was a load of money up front. That price was awful and I should have gone back and just did the muscle test with the previous doctor. I was just confused and discouraged that being back in the same supplements that fixed the issue before were not working now and he said that the selection of supplements was based on a genetic read. But if that were the case, the would still work again right? Anyway, to this expensive naturopathic doctor instead! I decided to do a candida detox with medication and diet. All of my issues went away! No joke. I never felt better. My period was normal and happy. There was a trade off though. Now my beast is not eating things that created that gut imbalance in the first place. I have to cook all of my meals. I have very little snack options and that is hard too. I was hoping that I could start to eat how I used to eat if I healed my gut after kicking out that pathogen that was ruining it and marking a muck of my hormonal balance. I tried a low fod map food diet to try and heal my gut. I then started introducing normal foods again. I got IBS really bad since I was able to restore a health gut again it was more sensitive to bad foods. I ate those things enough that I need to heal the gut back. I just feel burnt out of not have One great snack options and still I miss my favorite foods. It is one great emotional baggage. I basically have to eat a paleo diet, otherwise everything else is harsh enough on my gut health it harms it and I have hormonal imbalance again. Im hoping to know how to finally end this battle. I think on top of taking types of food out I am going to do intermittent fasting to give the gut significant breaks from digesting food to heal. I have already started a little bit and it is super hard. I truly hope it will solve it all. I will keep you updated on how it goes. I am a believer of let food be thy medicine. Watch thy gut haha. I don’t know if any of this information helps but if you would like to talk more let me know! My email is elly.bean@live.com.

I have also never met any woman understanding me. Today I have taken a day off. I'm in my induction year at school and I resisted through the year because I don't want to get fired. I took sick leave three times for three days, each time because I couldn't handle the symptoms. I never can tell what I have, I usually hide it. This month I'm starting the pill, but I'm scared it could have worse symptoms and in a month I have an important interview for the end of my induction year, right before my period, and I'm scared both of taking the pill and not taking it. Nobody diagnosed me, but I have tracked it, in the last years. At the beginning I had rage outbursts (five years ago) but I had no idea it could be connected to my period, now I know. My ex dumped me because I had an outburst before my period. He has now a new girlfriend, I had a hard time standing up, also because the situation hasn't changed, I still suffer from this and it makes me sad. I hope he would understand but he didn't and I even gave up therapy because it didn't help me go through the heartbreak and in the last months I am pretty emotionless, I don't know if it's depression or what. But on top of that I still have this... Disorder or whatever it is. I would need at least 3 days off every month from work, sometimes I take 1 but it's not sufficient. I would even need the 2/3 days afterwards. Before my period I still cry mumbling I was having a stressful time and I had never, never written bad things to him. For me it's just like you. Symptoms are usually similar but not always. Usually I have always have hymsonia, dizziness, extreme fatigue, headaches, my boobs hurt, so much. I usually feel like I can't handle (anxiety, overwhelm) and the day (or days} before I usually have cry outburst, or have suicidal thoughts. I feel better than the months after I split with my ex, but despite that my symptoms still persist whatever I do. I took up running, I am taking care of nutrition. I take vitamins. I have the impression sometimes a month is going better, but then... there again! On those days I also find it difficult to stick to good nutrition, because I have cravings, water retention, I smoke double the normal. It's so exhausting because it's every single month and I have the same problem that I have to cancel dates or appointments. Last month I planned an afternoon out, a social event, after months and months at home because of work and lockdown and whatever, but I was so bad because of the premenstrual symptoms, I mean psychologically. I went home, spent all Saturday night crying with my parents beside me. And it's not "oh, I'm a bit sad". No it's desperate. I also have this fog, in my head. On Sunday I woke up with cramps, I had my period and spent another day in bed. Then in 2/3 days I was OK. It's so DISTRESSING. I guess lately I got depressed because last year I still had hopes, then everything spiraled down when I had to choose in which school to go and when he came back to the city. He left me via text and never never wrote back to me, just blocked me all over. He said it was my fault. And then it's like he took all the things I love and took them with him, only to live them with somebody else. Anybody who was not me. It was honestly traumatizing. Now I can't feel those hopes and desires anymore, it seems like all my passions and everything that made me feel emotions kinda vanished. I never go out, I mean, never, and when a boy asks me out, I usually end up refusing. I still don't know how to cope with the trauma, I barely have awareness of how much time has passed (when I go out I sometimes get anxious, or dizzy). I reached a moment over December I really couldn't even stand up from bed. Now I'm sort of OK (in the sense I wake up, go to work, eat, clean the house etc) but I'm totally numb and emotionless and hopelessness. This has nothing to do with PMDD but to this PMDD adds up. Despite the sadness and the amount of work I had this year in a place I didn't fit in, despite the loneliness in the place I currently live in(I can't move elsewhere), I'm trying anyways to go running, train, and so on, but these constant symptoms, every single month, are so tiring. It seems like a car knocking me over every time. It seems like between love work life and this disorder I cannot have a normal life. This guy leaving me was so disruptive on so many levels for me, it left me speechless and now it seems to have broken something in my mind, like.. Forever. It doesn't come back, that hope, enthusiasm. And every fucking month I'm here dealing with this. If I take sick leave I can't even go out, maybe running, for work doctor visits... I don't know.

Hi, I'm sorry you're going through this. I also have pmdd and went through a similar situation w a relationship breakup many years ago. As you describe, it felt like something in my mind broke. I had a mental breakdown and struggled to function for a couple of years afterwards. It was the lowest point in my life. What helped me eventually was just time and meeting someone new. Therapy did not help me until years later when I was finally able to process it. I was actually prescribed benzos to deal with my extreme anxiety. It did help but I knew not to take it long term-- only around my period when I was really struggling. Talk to a psychiatrist about your struggles if you can and maybe something can help until you start to get better. You can and will get through this and feel better. It's a very hard thing to experience, and with our underlying genetic makeup -- so much harder to handle this kind of stress. Wishing you the best.

@@contemptusm thank you for your reply. This month I have started the pill. I must say I messed up a bit with it but it improved. Also I recognized life events took a toll on me, so it was partly biological partly not. The pill however removed the additional psychological and physical pain of the period. I felt bad, but did not have a specific crisis around my period. So I will go on with this and will try to deal with the mental mess (I am still affected at times, unfortunately) 💪🏻
