111 and 77. Took me 10 seconds. Who wants to buy me a beer?
Dang. I took 11. You are the master! I did the two equations as did John, in my head. FF the video to check my answer
@@richardhole8429In your head?🤔Was there any other way for this?😆P.S. I wasn't competing, the buyer could've done it in 5 seconds for all I care-just want my beer.
Solved in my head at the thumbnail, the two numbers are 77 and 111/
Let's choose x as the lower number, and thus x + 34 as the higher.
0) x + x + 34 = 188 -- Start
1) 2x + 34 = 188 -- combine terms
2) 2x = 188 - 34 -- subtract 34 from both sides
2.1) 2x = 154 -- finish the subtraction
3) x = 77 -- divide both sides by 2. The smaller number is 77.
4) 77 + 34 = 111 -- Add the difference to get the larger number.
10 secs in my head, 1/2 188 is 94. Add 1/2 of 34, 17 to 94=111 subtract 17 from other 94 =77. Simple, forgot to use x, my 8 yo grandson understands this logic without using algebraic symbols.
Divide by 2, then subtract and add half of 34. 188/2=94
94+17=111
94-17=77
Doesn’t require an 18 minute explanation.
lol, i did the same thing , took 20 secs/.. Sometimes algebra is overkill.
I keep getting back to my gripe with this channel. If this is given for 10th grade, it is a 2 minute problem, or less. In 7th grade, I think this deserves more time. 6th grade and below, I think this is at the edge of understanding for many kids, so no issue spending an hour if needed. Another gripe, hope I am not trolling, I would not use x and y as variables, because it somehow implies a coordinate system, at least in my mind, which has no meaning for this specific problem, until you get more variables than equations and the result is actually a function.
188-34=154/2=77
Ans 77 and 111
That's what I did using basic math. Pretty simple.
I just halved 188 . -17 from one half and +17 to the other😳
Same
Same
If they were both the size of the little number then the sum would be 188 - 34 = 154.
So the little number is half of 154 and the big number is 34 more than that.
77 and 111.
Subtract 34 divide by 2 add 34 to one side. J Math Man ❤👍👋💪🌎 I got one right the other day I couldn't believe it. You're such a a great teacher. Pemdas 😁
I have a serious math problem 😂
Just divide the large number by 2 giving 94. Divide the small number by 2 giving 17. Then add 17 to 94 giving 111 an subtract 17 from 94 giving 77.
A much simpler approach:
X + (X + 34) = 188
2X + 34 = 188
2X = 188-34
2X = 154
X = 77 ie. the smaller number; add 34 for the larger number 111
77 + 111 = 188
Let's NOT call the numbers A and B and go down the A + B = 188 and A - B = 34 route
Let's just call the numbers N and N + 34 and say N + N + 34 = 188
Giving us 2N = 188 - 34 2N = 154
N = 77 and the other number is N + 34 = 111
77 & 111
188 / 2 -17 (half the difference) = 77 the lower number. Add + 34 = 111 gives you the higher number. 77 + 111 = 188
Here is how I solved
x+ y = 188 and x-y = 34
x = 188-y and x = 34+ y
It means 188-y = 34+y
So 188-34 = y+y
154= 2y
Y= 154/2
Y= 77
So x= 188-77
x= 111
X= 111 and Y = 77
Nice... algebra puzzle !
a + b = 188 and
a - b = 34 or a = 34 + b (note that a is the bigger number and b the smaller)
so
(34 + b) + b = 188 -> 2b = 154 -> b = 77 and a = 34 + 77 = 111
nice
There is 34 difference between the two numbers. To make the numbers equal, you have to subtract 34 from one of them, which means you subtract 34 from the sum. 154 is the sum of the two equal numbers, so each is 77. Add 34 to get the actual higher number (111) and you're done.
Or, algebra. I couldn't watch 18 minutes of a sum that took 10 seconds, so I assume he did:
x-y=34
y=x+34
x+y=188
x+(x+34)=188
2x=188-34
x=77
y=77+34=111
I used x and y
Quick way, half each number 188 is 94 half 34 is 17 94 - 17 is 77 94 + 17 is 111 solved
It could need a search by stochastic models lot any other. Intuitive reasoning is the best. You get the correct answer at the first and second attempts.
X+(x+34)=188 worked for me much easier
The answer is 77 and 111
X + Y = 188
X - Y = 34
Subtract second equation from 1st
2Y = 154
Divide by 2 to get
Y = 77
Subtract from 188 to get
X = 111
Just assume X is larger than Y (since there is a difference of 34 between them)
Then Y + 34 = X
It all falls in place after that since….
X + Y = 188 can now be written with a substitute for X as:
(Y + 34) + Y = 188
2Y + 34 = 188
2Y = 154
Y = 77 therefore X must be 111
111 and 77 in my head.
I took 34 off 188, halved it and added 34 to one half, so...188-34 =154, 154÷2 =77, 77+34=111. 111+ 77= 188, The difference between 77 and 111 = 34.
The numbers are 77 and 111. When I add these numbers together they equal 188. When I subtract these two numbers the difference is 34. 👍
did it in my head..ezpz
Exactly, no reason to make it difficult.
188-34
Divide by 2
77 and 77+34 , i.e.111
i made 2 equations from the given information. 1. a+b=188 2. a-b=34 . i then took equation 2 and solved for a , giving me a=34+b . i then took this equation and substituted it in place of the letter a in equation 1. giving 34+b+b=188, which reduces to , 34+2b=188, 2b=188-34, 2b=154, b=77.
Don’t need any letters to solve this.
111 and 77 done in 2 minutes in my head
One number is x and second number is (x+34) so x+(x+34)=188Then 2x=188-34=154Now x=77
a+b=188, a-b=34. That means a+b+a-b=188+34 or 2a=222. From that, a=111 and b=77.
Here's another way. If a=b and a+b=188, then a=b=94. A has to be half of 34 more than 94 and b has to be half of 34 less than 94. That's because whatever is subtracted from one has to be added to the other to keep the sum the same.
So a=94+17 or 111 and b=94-17 or 77.
X=111, Y=77: 111+77=188; 111-77=34.
System of equations 111=× 77=y
111 & 77
Form two simultaneous equations and solve the equations, and you get 77 and 111
2n-34=188
2n=154
N=77
So 77, 111
77 and 43
77 and 111
How about the number 111 and the number 77.
A = 111, b = 77
111,77
2X + 34 = 188 X=77 188- 34 = 111
Why can't you use x + (x+34) =188
111 and 77
Are you teaching Algebra first time. Unknown are numbers usually X and Y.
Simple equations.
126 and 62
Didn’t watch yet. I see 2 numbers, call them an and b, and 2 equations. a+b=188 and a-b=34. So, a=34+b. Insert into the first equation: (34+b)+b = 188. Now, 34+2b=188. 188-34=154.divide by 2=77. Insert b=77 into the second equation. a-77=34. a=111. This could have been done the other way around as well and it better get the same result. If not go back to the start and check your math🤓watched now and see why x and y were used. Would have avoided going into coordinate systems. No needed. Unless, I am thinking 7th grade ish, as an introduction to linear math and coordinate systems?
Deu 111 e 74.
X+Y=188 & X-Y=34 find x & y.
111 +77
77, 111
Two numbers are 111 and 77.
got it 77, 111 + = 188 and - = 34 then substitute. thanks for the fun.
77 + 111.
Numbers are 111 and 77
i'm here for the cool cartoons + apparent complexity
Both above are correct
No they're not as the difference is 80.
X=111,y =77
the numbers are 111 and 77
47
111 and 77 (x+x-34)=188 👌🏽
36
Take 34 off the 188 and then divide the remainder by 2
You always like to make mountains out of molehills.
Damn. I came up with 111 and 77.
That is not a decent word problem, it just tells uou 2 equations which happen to be the sum and difference of 2 numbers, which is one of the easiest system of equations in 2 unknowns to solve.
2X+34=188. Easy
It took 6 guesses
😁
too easy
111 and 71 read question wrong
154&34
Difference is 80
Too much yap. If talking was an Olympic sport he'd be a gold medelist.
😂😂😂what a simple question is this
Too much talking, attention span of people much less kids don't want to waste 18 mins on learning how to do a problem. Too much repeating and nonsense filler talk.
Many complain about the same thing.
YOU TALK WAY TOO MUCH!! GET TO THE POINT!
154 and 34
The difference between those two numbers is not 34. It's 120.
77+111= 188, 111-77= 34💀😂✌
