  • Anybody knows if this unsteadiness in the engine of my Peugeot 106 originates from a faulty or dirty idle control valve? The car sometimes also doesn't want to start, whereas other times it starts without a single hickup.
    The car is a 2000 1.1 60pk Peugeot 106.

Yes it is mate, change it for a genuine or used 1 and make sure you fish out the old seal. Give the port a good clean while you're at it too.

Cheers mate, thanks. I replaced it but it is still having the same problem. Any other suggestions?

Hello, I had the same problem and I solved it by adjusting the intake and exhaust valves, intake - 0.20mm when cold, exhaust - 0.40mm, it's an HFX engine, people change the idle air control valve, of course it can be a problem, but if do not solve by replacing the idle control valve or injector seal, you must have a problem with the valve adjustment.Good luck!

I´ll will try that. My engine is doing the exact same as in Video. My HFX is from 2009 so no idle controll valve on that one.
I replaced ALL Seals (Air intake, Injectors, Throttlebody, Head Gasket) with no luck.
I assume it´s going to be the valve clearance because it is dropping around 100RPM when engine is HOT. When engine cold (or Open Loop maybe) it´s less noticable.

This little engine is a lot of fun in the 106. Sadly theybare prone to head gasket leaks, otherwise they are really solid engines. Seen a few with over 400k kms on em

@@WorivpuqloDMogh a 1.4 actually but they're basically the same engine .. just replaced the headgasket twice valves and stem seals .. water pump twice .. clutch ... timing belt with tensioners and few electrical stuff like ICV .. general maintenance nothing big .. still runs smooth

@Ra O uF aah sweet. Those 1.4 and 1.6 are the best TU engines in my opinion. I used to have a 1.6 8v and 16V too. That 16V at 110 HP hauled ass lol.
It's impressive what you can do to an engine when you got the knowledge to do so. I now have a Xantia 1.9 SD. It's just short of 140.000 kms. Gonna have to do the head gasket soon because its sweating oil a bit. I mean its 26 years old.
Only things i cannot pull off is a clutch replacement like you did. Gonna have to do the driveshaft seals and all when i do that because they are prone to leaks that way

I have the exact same problem on a Peugeot 206 2009 1.1L Petrol. Unfortunately no control valve on that one because it´s a electric Throttle Body. I´ll check valve clearance as next step.

I have this exact same issue, I have replaced the idle control valve and the coolant temperature sensor but with no joy. The car only does this once it has warmed up. Any other suggestions?

Check your vacuum hoses, maybe one a cracked and it's getting false air.
