Discord ERP and DnD mix together like frozen water and boiling oil.
Yeah, I’ve always done fade to black and if any player keeps pushing romantic scenarios to the point they are trying to make me run a dating sim for them, I just shut them down.
as someone who occasionally works dnd-lite mechanics into text-based erp (usually just a flat 1d20 roll for whether or not something works out/whether a character chooses to do something or not), I can't imagine doing anything even remotely like that out loud with several people if I wasn't like, sleeping with them, lmfao, my soul would evaporate from my body
@@lootgoblinmarketplace Same with our DM. And romance building scenes are typically done during downtime where our characters are free to RP, so long as we let the DM know that we're planning on doing something of the sort.
Iris seems like the epitome of a crybully and also holds all the traits of not only a yikes DM but a Yikes person IRL. Forcing characters to have ERP and not mentioning it as a side, and then implying grape or sa posthoc makes me concerned for any of Iris' future irl partners, as it reminds me of the guy who roleplayed luring a girl out into the woods turning out to be a guy who used said tactic irl for his victims.
There comes a point where you have to look at yourself in the mirror and admit you're complicit. Blows my mind how much suffering people will tolerate even when they can just get up and walk away.
iris is messed up that stuff should have asked the rest if they are ok with it...
Definitely, it seems like Iris acted like other people could make things uncomfortable but they always did whatever they wanted

wow. just... I'm lost for words. I listen to these dnd-horror-stories about what *not* to do, because I'm a fairly new DM and I want to avoid mistakes. But this... not my game, not my rolls.

Yeah, I'm glad to know that no matter how bad that I've messed up as a starting DM. It was always just like lack of preparation instead of whatever this story is... I'm always horrified with how these DMs conduct themselves.
What a disastrous DM. I thought the "that guy" DM was bad, but Iris takes the cake as the worst DM documented yet. Some may be more extreme in aspects, but given Iris has so many awful bases covered, it's enough to make you shiver!

someone "not being able to handle the stress of not being in total control of the world they're playing in" is like.. the reddest red flag to me. Yeeowch. Like, no shade on someone for not being built for every kind of roleplaying, but they were juuuuust shy of having enough self-awareness about being a control freak. Everything Iris says or does flags them as having intense control issues to me.

Yeah, I avoid it because I feel like its awkward for the entire party to sit through. If you are your spouse or your crush want to flirt via roleplay... there is a time and a place (and D&D when like 4 other people are awkwardly watching) is not it!
How about don't play with them instead I get it can be hard to speak up but he'll you guys just let them keep going and going to a point you are at fault as well don't go to the game just dont play with that freak
Yeah, one of the best pieces of advice is no D&D is better than bad D&D. If you want to play, you can always restart the group with only those who didn't help make this situation happen!

Just like in a story, the Heroes (OP and friends) were brought together by a Villain (Iris) and after overcoming the villain went on to remain best friends.
