    As for the Jello frosting trick, when I was a kid my mom/aunties used to make Italian meringue frosting with Jello. The trick is to actually dissolve the Jello with a bit of hot water (concentrated, not like the package says). Then put the dissolved Jello on the meringue (using table spoons so you can control the color/flavor) so it will color and give a bit of the Jello flavor to it (and as a bonus, will help the meringue stay in place).

      My family does this but with cream cheese icing and pudding mix! A nice white chocolate pudding makes it really flavorful :) this also works for colored puddings like chocolate or strawberry, as long as you let the pudding firm up ahead of time there's no gritty texture!

    Learned a lot from this video!! However I would like to see a re-do of the cake mix with the soda. DONT USE THE BEATERS! Just fold the two ingredients until combined. The point here is to try not to pop the carbonation bubbles, therefore making a fluffier cake! I've experimented with both techniques and it does make a difference.

    • @SpeedDemonStar
      @SpeedDemonStar Год назад +4

      I agree except for 2 of them (that I know of from experience). She shouldn't have used an electric mixer with the soda cakes. If you over-mix the batter or let them sit too long before putting the oven, they sink in the middle like hers did, and really messes with the texture.
      The other one she could've done differently was the Jell-O one. You want to, at the very least, pre-dissolve it in a little water first and ideally give the powder 2-3 pulses in a food processor or blender to make a finer powder. Both help immensely in eliminating the graininess that she complained of.

    I make the cake mix w soda a lot since it's super quick not needing any other ingredients, and even use flavoured seltzers. I've found cutting down the liquid to 8-10 oz is the magic amount. You can tell by the texture when pouring it in what's right for a cake batter. I do agree it does have less integrity than a normal cake but it's fine for a sheetpan cake and something quick.

    The myth that kind of annoys me is the “add an extra egg, milk instead of water, and butter instead of oil” hack for making a boxed cake mix taste like it’s from a bakery. I’ve used this hack, and the butter definitely makes the cake more dense which can be handy, but the entire concept ignores the fact that professionally made oil cakes exist for a reason. Carrot cake is a good example of an oil cake that tastes amazing. Not every cake needs butter in it, and there’s nothing wrong with using oil because it serves a purpose too!

    When I was a kid, there was a "church lady" where we attended services. She would make 7up cake for potluck Sundays especially because she knew I loved it. She passed before I got the recipe. I tried the whole adding soda thing, but I still haven't found a method that tastes like hers did.........

    When I do the cheater way out, and make cake from a box, I usually get rid of the water and substitute it for milk. But make sure that you are measuring the milk with how much water it is calling for. Instead of the veggie oil, I melt the same amount butter as veggie oil, and with the eggs, I add in another one, just to make the cake a bit fluffier. I also add in about 3 tablespoons of mayo or sour cream, and a splash of vanilla, the cake turns out so yummy! My husband isn’t a big cake fan, but when I started making the box cake mix like this, he can’t get enough of them🤤. I highly recommend giving it a try🤠!

    I’m really excited about the boxed cake mix cookies. I live in a small apartment with almost no cupboard space, but I like making cookies. I just don’t have room for all the ingredients all the time for different types. I like the idea of being able to use one box I can get anywhere-and it’s also a multitasker.

    I just wanted to say, that the oreo mug cake recipe actually works cause I've tried it myself before, u just need to make a paste with crushed Oreos and little milk and put it in the microwave. I tried with 5 Oreos and it needs a minute and 20 seconds to completely bake.
    Hope this helps!

    This is great seeing you bust these myths and hacks. I've heard the koolaid one before especially when you are trying to make red frosting to use a red koolaid like cherry to get a base colour then add food colouring to bump it up to red, otherwise it case take so much food colouring to make red and not pink frosting that it doesn't taste good.
    A tool I highly recommend for measuring sticky ingredients: there is a measuring cup for this that has a plunger bottom inside a cylinder. You adjust it to the measurement you want then once filled push up the bottom and just scrape off the flat surface to get all your ingredient. It's great for not only things like honey but also peanut butter.

    I use the 7-up one with cupcakes. I use a white cake mix and use 7UP, then seperate them to make rainbow/tie dye cupcakes. I dont know why but the 7up mix has much more vibrant colors than the usual oil/egg/water method plus food color. I supsect its cause the 7up is essentially a clear product, ala clear vanilla.

    For the first cake batter myth, it's a very common camping dessert. You add 1 16oz can of pie filling, one can of soda and one box of cake mix into a foil lined dutch oven and cook over hot coals for about an hour or until done. (We call it a dump cake. Sugary, tastes good, but nothing fancy)

    We have made the box cake mix with a can of pop for years. Works every time with the kind we use. Duncan heinz vanilla/white cake and 7-up/sprite works great! You can make the yellow cake with the same soda. For dark cakes it’s recommended to use a dark soda, and you can use white cake mix with many flavours. Makes a super moist and fluffy, light cake that literally melts in your mouth. It’s sooo good! And quick and easy. It does depend on if you like the texture or not. I love it! The different cake mixes may also work differently from brand to brand, and flavour to flavour.

    I found for cake mix cookies, I use the cake mix but follow the directions for betty crocker cookie mix (found on the BC website), deviating only by whipping the butter until it's nearly white and chock full of air, adding a capful of vanilla, and fridging it for at least 30 minutes before making 1.5 tbsp balls to bake. You actually end up with a 'cookie' texture. Doing the vegetable method really gives you flat cakes, and if I wanted a cake, I'd bake a cake.
