For those who aren't nice, this man came to give lumps of coal and lay down the hate with arrows. ...and I'm afraid he's fresh out of coal.
On a serious note, thank you so much for the extremely helpful video; the only other video I've found to be this helpful was Dave Mead's "Comanche Archery How-To"

As a traditional archer starting my 40th season shooting a recurve bow, I heartily agree with everything you shared regarding form and what to consider a successful hit. Instinctive shooting is all about learning to relax and have fun with the bow while maintaining good form. I tell everyone. Just look at the target and shoot. After enough practice and when you keep a consistent form for each shot, your brain will work out the exact aim you need to get a good hit. Great video!

I shot yesterday after work and realized I need to get an arm guard. I'm getting some wrist slap after changing up my grip position. Also you are right about painting your arrows white. Almost lost an arrow yesterday in the grass. I will be painting mine before my next shooting session. Glad to see you're back Gare. Keep it up.

Gary, I wish you all the best, and I wish for my self to keep shooting with enthusiasm when I'm your age. You are an inspiration!
I've been reading a lot of the comments, and it baffles me when younger archers don't consider the possibility you've already tried many styles and forms of shooting and found a way which is more comfortable and works better for you. and more importantly enjoyable for you. that's the most important aspect of archery in the end.
You respond to all of them with kindness and grace which is admirable!

I really enjoy your style of instruction. The words you use, while maybe not the most technical or whatever, make perfect sense to me. Such as "covering the target with your arrowhead", "the trough", "punching the target" and even the "plop" all register in my mind much better and more clearly then whatever the technical term for all of those techniques would. Plus the constant flow of dad jokes is amusing

I would say this guy has been shooting for a while or two and is part of the equipment when he shoots.
Having shoot since the age of six to present day, and tried a few different bows along the way, i can say that I agree with what he is saying, if it feels right and it gives you results then there is something that your doing right.
I have seen people who reckon that they cant shoot without marking a spot on the ground to put their feet.
Out of all bows the most instictive bow is the long bow, purely because your pulling a lot of weight, so its important that you have a rythm in the way you shoot, its nice to see such a relaxed bowman and i bet he can get good scores when it come down to the line.

Hello gary, practically when the point of contact is on the cheek you must always put the bow more inclined, otherwise the arrow does not align under the eye.
opening the bow to the ear instead you can keep the bow more vertical because the shoulder is more aligned, otherwise inclining the bow in this case the shoulder would be out of alignment.
    did I get it right?
obviously it does not open up to the ear because there would be too much kinetic energy in the bow and would risk shaking during the collimation phase with the target.

Being history fan I just stumbled onto an archaeologist named John George Woodford who covered Agincourt history and went through the war of his own time! The reason I mention his name is he looks exactly like you...wish RUclips allowed photo sharing.

It's my understanding that we do not aim , unless you have pin sights on your bow there is no aiming, we point ,we do not aim . Nor do we hold the draw longer than a count of one
It makes the muscles tighten and tense up making it very difficult to keep steady on the mark , you also will lose power.

After years of shooting, one develops an instant feedback feeling upon release that says “this one is good”. Watching the perfect flight, hitting precisely where your mind and body focused, only doubles down on your desire to improve..

@@garychynne1377 - Ohhhh....yes, i anderstood it now! You have to have an overview of the big one so you can hit the small one much better - i hope - right? I've always done that wrong. Always looked through a small window and the my bow was straight vertical. I have always followed the Chinese archery technique, but that is probably more difficult than keeping the bow at an angle. Hmmmm.....i will change that! Thanks Gary!
