  • One of the best parts of this the job is that we get to meet so many interesting people in the fountain pen world. So when we were invited to visit the Visconti facility in Florence, we immediately jumped at the opportunity. Not only did we visit the villa where the pens are designed, we also got to see the unique warehouse and assembly facility and best of all: we got to interview Mr. Francesco Poggesi, Visconti's CEO. He told us about the history and future of Visconti and we got to ask him several questions about pen-related topics.
It was a very pleasant and informative conversation, so enjoy watching the video!
NOTE: The give away is closed, the winner has been chosen. (MultiEbbot)

My opinion of the Visconti brand is a little better these days, seems like they are slowly improving QC and customer service. They used to be making overpriced shiny eye candies that sometimes worked and now it seems most of the pens at last work out of the box. If they keep it up, I might consider getting a Homo Sapiens one day :)

One of my life regrets is that my time visiting Pepperdine University’s campus in Florence came before I knew about Visconti. At the time I was there we were located in a historically significant property (actually owned by the Medici family, a part of Florence but distant from the city central. Nevertheless, a couple of bus stops and we could be engaged in touring the Cathedral and touring historical landmarks kept me from checking out the local business landscape. If I had not retired, I would try to arrange tours with business students to learn about several businesses in Florence and elsewhere in Europe. I am fascinated with fountain pens and with the combination of art, aesthetics, and the value of writing. In fact, I am looking at a lot of research now, and I hope to write (now that I am retired) a book dealing with the brain and hand writing, especially with a fountain pen and its tactile advantages. When I write with a fountain pen, I feel a connection with both the cognitive and emotional side of my mind. Meaning is enhanced as words become instruments of hand, heart, and mind. THANK YOU FOR VISCONTI! While in the USA, I appreciate Appelboom because Joost brings such wonderful programming to the world. While I agree the eco-friendliness of fountain pens is important, I also believe that writing itself is essential to our mind, to human flourishing, and to a well-integrated life-head, heart, and hand. Blessings for both Appelboom and Visconti. L Keith Whitney, Professor Emeritus, Business Ethics and Law.

This really was a great video. Thank you for putting this together. Though the term "modern classic" seems a bit cliché, I can see how it is quite fitting for Visconti. Visconti designs are surprisingly recognizable even beyond just their signature clip. And yet it's not a fall back to having their entire pen line just look like different sizes of the same model. I also appreciate both the honesty around where the company currently stands regarding sustainability as well as their recognition of the importance of committing to more sustainable materials and practices moving forward. Visconti continues to be a company to watch!

Thank you for this indepth interview. Really great to hear a bit more about the history as well as future directions of the brand. When I think about the Visconti brand I immediately think about the materials, the quality of the resins and the interesting choices like the lava basalt of the famous homo sapiens. Personally I have two Visconti pens in my collection, a Van Gogh (Pair of Shoes) and a Rembrandt (Eclipse). For me, the swirling colours of the resins have a parallel in the beautiful marbled papers for which Firenze is rightly famous. They're truly lovely pens and also a joy to write with. Can't hardly wait to see what's coming next from Visconti. 🖋️🖋️🤩

Owner of a Homo Sapiens Oversize here, first thanks for this opportunity. What do I think of Visconti? They need definitely improve their QC: got my HS Stub nib right only after 3 attempts, the first had the nib pointing 1 shorter than another, the second had baby bottom and heavy skipping issue, the third is ok, but unlike my other pens it just won't write strait away once uncaped, just need 1 or 2 skipping stroke first then it starts to write. For a pen of this price point that's some serious problems. And from some research on the web mine is not an isolated case...

Visconti is my second favorite brand. I have four Visconti pens. Van Gogh is the best. :) My grail pen is visconti qwerty limited edition.
