    I miss Don Scott. Him and Marty Bass were like two blood brothers. They have kept it alive. Al Sanders and Jerry Turner were two awesome brothers. It's a big family at WJZ 13. Love you guys.

    having lived in the Baltimore area since 1987, I was fortunate to be able to watch the icons of TV news, Al Sanders and Jerry Turner..as well as Don. They were so loved and respected, I think 13 could run old newscasts of those 3 and still beat 11 and 2 in the ratings.

    I'm 49 and grew up watching Don, Marty and all the people Don mentioned. They were a significant part of my life and made Baltimore and living in. Maryland special.
    Career news people, like Don, know they are special when they are considered more like family members than any relatives I ever had.

    I grew up (born 1995) listening to Don Scott on the 6am morning news when I was in elementary school. There's something about his bass type voice that just makes me think of black coffee in the morning that no other newscasters have ever been able to do.

    Sad to see Don Scott leave but I totally understand his decision. Very nice of him to mention Jerry Turner, Al Sanders, Randy Blair and George Bauman. I liked that touch and it's very true....

    What went for Don Scott, will eventually go for Denise Koch, Marty Bass, and Bob Turk. All three are into at least 40 years. (Bob Turk is into 45 years) At some point, all three will eventually retire. (on their own terms) When you worked at one company for at least 35 years or more, It's not "IF" you retire, it's "WHEN" they retire. Denise, Marty, and Bob are really the last of WJZ's "core group" . Jerry, Al, and Nick Charles passed. Don Scott, Richard Sher, and John Buren have retired. Denise, Marty, and Bob are the only ones left that started at WJZ in the 70's when they were an ABC affiliate.

    • @zephead4835
      @zephead4835 3 года назад

      I remember the old Nick Charles promo where he's standing at a street corner and he points his finger up and the camera moves up and sign says N. Charles St. I always thought that was pretty cool.

      Fast forward and Bob Turk has been retired by the suits. It clearly wasn’t his call based on how it was handled.

    • @chuckers40
      @chuckers40 Год назад

      @@aresef You think Bob Turk was "nudged:" out the door by management. Turk had been there nearly 50 years. You knew at some point he was going to retire.

    i grew up watching Jerry Turner and Al Sanders. Two most respected guys you could ever know. Then came along Don Scott and Marty Bass. My mornings waking up to the two was always cool. Loved them. But news today is nothing like it was in the past. Today you have anchors who want to be big and who also cant be trusted for truth. But Al Sanders & Jerry Turner they told the hard facts and never mislead the public they both was always professional and never looked to be big shots but only to love the city they lived in along with all the people who lived in it. They made the viewers feel like family. And just like to say Thank you Don Scott for making all of are mornings great.

    Thank you so much for posting this. I live in New Jersey but my family has a boat in Maryland, so in the past I used to go Maryland a lot and watch WJZ all the time. Most kids at the time and even young adults now don't really watch the news. They just go online for any news. Well, I've always watched the local news and have done both online and TV for my news. I watch Channel 6 Action News at home in NJ, but WJZ is like the Action News of Maryland. They're a family, I feel like I know them, and the on-air staff isn't constantly changed. Many of them are on the air for many years and even decades. That's rare, but that's what makes WJZ so great. I don't get to watch WJZ because I don't get to go to Maryland like I did when I was young. School and work has prevented that unfortunately. But any chance I get to go to Maryland and be able to watch WJZ on my boat is a treat. I didn't get to see until today, thanks to your channel and video, of Don Scott's last day. I thought he'd sign off at the 12PM instead of the morning show. But it was great to be able to see him sign off around the people that mean the most to him. I was in NJ so I didn't see it but my last time watching him do the news was on Wednesday, June 25th. I'll miss Don. He was great. Don and Marty, what a great duo. Happy Retirement to Don Scott!!! He'll be missed.

    I would often wonder as a child…Why would so many Baltimore news anchors get offers from MUCH larger markets for so much more money INTENTIONALLY choose to stay in Charm City? It’s quite simple, really. It doesn’t matter what city you come from, Baltimore gives you a home. You get the feeling that what you do matters here. In markets like NYC or LA, you’re just another person. People don’t stop you on the street just to BS for a few minutes. You really aren’t part of the community. Here, people wave, say Thank You, and let you know that you are a part of the community when they see you. There’s no other city I’d want to live in than Baltimore.
