Haw is it possible that people who are directly responsible for breakout of revolution could become martyrs? This is a classic oxymoron.

@@rebuzz6866 "people who are directly responsible" I honestly don't think Nicholas' children had anything to do with it; other than that, yes, I do agree that Nicholas himself wasn't that good of a ruler (though quite pious and a good family man) who's family didn't deserve death (keeping in mind they didn't just stop with the deaths and mutilation of the corpses of not just him but his wife and children as well as their servants either but also went after all of the Romanovs they could get their hands on, not bothered by whether they were directly influential in politics or whatever their personal views were, or even involved at all)
Chances are a lot of what we know about the last Russian Tsar is simple Bolshevik propaganda where we tend to forget the minor details like the daughters working as nurses during war time (I believe Anastasia was too young though?) and Nicholas' anonymous charity funding and donations, he wasn't the direct cause of the war that saw the dynasty fall either.
If anything, these people, who meant to do good and truly believed in God and were murdered for their supposed crimes (were the children and servants even able to be held accountable? imo they were innocent and definitely passionbearers)
Another layer of somewhat counterargument (though I agree Nicholas could have probably tried to do things differently) is that the autocracy and nobles were very much corrupt, he had to appease his court just like any other Emperor, and those men neither wanted nor would they ever have accepted change.
TLDR: They were good people that did what they believed was right, keeping in mind their good spirits and faith in God, humility and other virtues as well as pure devotion to doing good they truly deserve to be recognized as passionbearers after getting their lives robbed from them by these honorless criminals.

    • @Frank-mm2yp
      @Frank-mm2yp 4 года назад +26

In a monarchial dynastic system the family members are very much a part of the "political drama" just by existing. Once it became clear that they would or could not be "extracted" from Russia by any of the ALLIES, their fate was sealed. It was apparent to the Bolsheviks that they were "expendable".
If they only executed the Czar and/or even the Czarina on a trumped up "enemy of the people" treason charge, if any of the children survived, the dynasty would have continued in exile with a direct legitmate heir(s) as the figurehead.
The Bolsheviks did the expedient thing and committed these atrocities of their "liquidation" w/o a 2nd thought. In their eyes the thought of any of the surviving Romanovs loose plotting counter revolution in Europe, Asia (or the USA!) was a non-starter. That any of the survivors would have been allowed to live in the new USSR or lead a "normal" life outside of Russia is a fantasy.

What a beautiful film about the most heinous crime of the centuries. This bittersweet movie shows the beauty & charm of the family amid their opulent existence mixed with the political brutality of their circumstances. The film company achieved the storytelling in a very proper high-quality way comparable if not superior to BBC/PBS standards for historical accuracy and perfection. The viewer becomes riveted. In the end, you realize the children were innocents, the girls virginal, the boy and heir but a mere sweet child, the Tsarina a caring mom, and the Tsar a devoted dad who probably just wanted to spend his days as a gentleman farmer and family man. There just wasn't enough hours in a day to also be Tsar, he'd have to be omnipresent. Definitely these people are saints or martyrs or passion-bearers, whatever the proper distinction. The film is long, in two parts, at first think you might not be able to do it, but in the end, you will be in tears and feel it wasn't long enough.

And impossible to make everyone happy. The poor guy was damned if he did and damned if he didn't, in an age that didn't have the hindsight we enjoy today.

As a Protestant I don't believe in Saints, but one cannot deny the piety of the Romanovs in captivity or before that even.
Nicholas may not have been an exceptionally good Czar; though modernly used sources are likely biased because of Communists.
One thing is for sure, Nicholas was a good willing person with a big heart, and so were all those of his family.

The PORTRAIT OF A TSAR is a chapter in the book that looks into that:
Just a few lines from the book:
Nicholas was not, as various historians wished to portray him, too
meek and mild to hold this position. Those nearest to him preserved a
few instances in which the young emperor’s powerful personality became
      apparent.

@La Serpenta Canta hi! About the film "Nicholas and Alexandra" from 1971. Even though the film does retain a sympathetic approach and understanding of the imperial couple, still it VERY far from the historical truth(s). It presents them exactly in the way the West has always portrayed them (no need to get into details here). But it is justified a little bit because at the time (1970s) the Russian State Archives were not yet open (they opened with Glasnost) and most primary sources were not yet available to researchers. That's why Rober Massie's book with the same name, i.e. "Nicholas and Alexandra", also lacks in this respect since it was written in the 1960s. We hope this helps!

Sending Men to die by Millions without rifles, ammunition and food. All these European Monarchs rightly deserved the Gallows with how they play with human life. Like a game. The only Royal Family to survive the War were the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha's. Could you imagine having over 2 million Casualties in your Country. You lost family and friends. Half your town has been exterminated by the War AND Your King (England) allows the Family along with THE MAN (Tsar Nicholas) that mobilized his Nation and unflinchingly threw gas on a fire that killed your people and widened the War? I can't help think of the unwillingness and disinterest of King Edward VIII towards being king - he wanted a personal life, a true love, rather than the royal trappings he was born into. These two men seem to have shared a love of family and intimacy, over power and control. They were not suited to their times.

I hope you will make a book and a movie about the French revolution. The book and the movie are beautiful, the cinematography is excellent and the book is so beautiful. The same thing happened in France and the way the stories are told about King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, don’t hit the mark like this movie does. Thank you for your beautiful work. I hope one day Russia will bring back the Czar one day and restore Russia. It’s sad what they did to the Romanov family! What do the Russians think of it all? Would they want a czar again? Boatswain left Alexei and Romanov family before they were being moved to Tobolsk. And after he left, Nagorny took his place as a main nanny. In captivity, the red soldiers actions were often very insulting and harassing, but Nagorny tried his best to protect the Romanov family. Nagorny action caused big anger on red soldiers. Four days after Nagorny and the rest of Romanov family moved into Ekaterinburg (Ipatiev house), he was taken away alongside Ivan Sednev. They both shot to death. Nagorny& Ivan were canonized by Russian Ortodox church on Nov 14th 1981

I have been fascinated by Russia and its history for decades, since I was in my teens (now 66), and have studied it via books and documentaries. The Romanovs were fascinating, from Michael I, crowned at the Ipatiev Monastery, to Nicholas II, murdered with his family at the Ipatiev House, an odd coincidence. I do not believe Nicholas II was a bad man, but he was not a great Tsar. Unfortunately, he had been raised to believe that it was his divine duty to rule Russia, but he would have been far happier if he could have lived out his life with his family on a farm or small estate somewhere. He was a devoted husband and family man who was not cut out to rule a huge country like Russia.

Thanks for your comment, Kathi! If you are interested in the truth about the life and death of the last Romanov family, as well as to what really took place in Russia during that turbulent era, then we highly recommend our book, which offers previously unpublished materials strictly from primary and archival sources. Our book brings to light a multitude of unknown and unrevealed facts, which evince that many truths remain silenced or distorted to this day. Such are:
      • The achievements and great reforms of Tsar Nicholas' reign.
      • The events of the 1905 revolution and Bloody Sunday.
      • Russia’s and Tsar Nicholas’ involvement in WW1.
      • The plots and conspiracies to overthrow Tsar Nicholas from his throne.
      • The myth of the “Bread Revolution” and the truth about the February 1917 coup.

@@RomanovRoyalMartyrs Thank you! I will check it out. When interested in a subject, I try to access different resources so as to get different perspectives on the subject instead of one researcher’s POV. For example, I have read a number of books on Rasputin and have concluded that he was not a “mad monk”. He was a crude womanizer who had a strong will and a semi-hypnotic ability to calm people, like the young Tsarevich, which was effective in reducing the bleeding and pain from his haemophilia related injuries. The legend of the way he died probably had more to do with Yusupov’s hysteria than fact.
When I was younger, I read Russian fairy tales (along with the folklore of other cultures. I found Baba Yaga fascinating. I also remember that many of the tales I read had the message that if they could only get to the Tsar, everything would be alright. One thing I am curious about is that the video shows Tsar Nicholas II looking at photos of a woman who appears to be Matilda Kshesinskaya, Nicholas’s mistress prior to his relationship with Alexandra. Is it? And if so, why would he be looking at her photos?
