I think the reason we all accept the concept of an unknown playing Superman and a star playing Batman is a subconscious thing. Superman is kind of an unknown. Just a farm boy from Kansas. Bruce Wayne on the other hand would at least be somewhat of a celebrity. A billionaire orphan that comes from old money. He'd be an Elon Musk type, for lack of a better example. A very well known public figure.
The idea of a famous actor being recognized flying around was the reason given Batman's face is concealed so this problem does not occur with him.

I think a big part of Damien and Bruce Wayne’s arcs when they meet each other and become a family is that Damien is severely broken not only from his grandfather, but also from his mother, then seeing that his father, his biological father, is not a good person in his eyes, drives him even further away. If you take any aspect of that story away I G Tallia being a bad mother (or even Bruce Wayne’s cold hearted nature towards his newfound son) Damien‘s character arc is lost and a lot less effective and impactful!

Brandon Sklenar as Batman .. has the height, voice, potential physique, his age matches Superman’s timeline as he’s in his early 30s, and he has a no nonsense demeanor to him which is necessary dealing with Damian. Check out 1923, he was fantastic.

Wow, thanks so much for answering not just one, but two of my questions. Really appreciate hearing your thoughts, especially your outline of how the evil clone could work. I had never considered the angle you took, so it was really compelling.
One thing I’ve been thinking about for a while is the title change. Gunn said: “When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN.”
Now the wording of that is really interesting. It sounds like he discovered something through his writing process that he didn’t initially intend, but emerged as a more important theme than he thought it would be. There was a lot of speculation on what “Superman: Legacy” could have meant, but not as much on what “Superman” means. But what if it’s what you said - the theme, and the struggle, is trying to define who Superman is. Maybe at first that’s through defining who he isn’t - i.e., not this evil clone doing who knows what in eastern Europe. When the world condemns the evil clone’s actions, Clark is forced to define who Superman should be in the world. What if people know him by reputation, but he’s never given an interview to the Daily Planet? What if he just quietly does good deeds in the world, but doesn’t stick around to get credit? Maybe the evil clone forces him to become more outspoken, to explain his values and inspire other heroes to do the same?
Anyway, thanks so much for your detailed thoughts on how the clone thing could work! It was a headscratcher for me so I appreciate you laying out the arc beat by beat like you did.

That crest was actually an old Hebrew symbol introduced by Siegel and/or Schuster. The El family name is actually a Hebrew word meaning "of God", For example all the archbishop angels names end in el, Gabriel, Michael. Uriel, etc. Kal-El (or Kol-el) translates to "the voice of God".

I think using the evil Superman trope would be a great opportunity to bring that Homelander discussion to Superman himself. Having Clark reflecting on his own nature and sense of belonging onscreen, instead of leaving it to the audience and parodies, might be a great way to kickstart the DCU.

An excellent way to re-establish Superman as a character to a huge audience is to deconstruct and challenge the popular notion that "power corrupts absolutely" which is the argument people often use to dismiss and write off Superman as "boring" because he isn't emotionally-distant and doesn't kill random people 24/7, introducing something that resembles a Homelander archetype is great for that.

I've gotten so used to being let down I just can't muster up much enthusiasm. For every good thing I hear theres something that churns my stomach.
I would be all for a Teen Titans movie to be as closely based on the first season of Young Justice as possible. The first season of YJ was far more about the original Teen Titans than the Teen Titans cartoon which was based off of the new Teen Titans. Personally the movie should be a flashback starring the silver agers so when we get to modern day they're college aged and we can bring in the popular big guns...
I also think when Superman and Batman meet up this go round gunn should look to their very first meeting in Worlds Finest which was not Earth shattering at all. They met on a cruise and discovered each others identities. Then they should go off and do something earth shattering.
Alan Ritchson better be on that Batman fancasting list right along with Jensen Ackles and Jake Gylennhal!

And if James follows the new 52 Bat family timeline. Bruce already has all of them in 8 yrs and even that James can make Bruce start being Batman at 24 there’s so many workaround on his age, Tom Bateman will be my pick to play Batman.

Idk I didn’t write this clear hope you get what I mean

Yes i would want the emblem on the cape. It's iconic. Imagine that powerful image of Superman's torn cape from Death of Superman without it. Just red fabric. The CW understood this, it's why when they showed a dead Superman in crisis, they had the cape include a version of the emblem. Even though none of the Arrowverse Supermen had it before or since. Except Smallville i guess.

Batman (along with the rest of the DCU imo) NEEDS to be casted as QUALITY no name actors. it’s really gonna be the only way to get a perfect accurate representation of the comic book characters, have it not be distracting, and for us to truly fall into the movie and it’s reality. I don’t wanna SEE Ben Affleck or Christian Bale I wanna see BATMAN I wanna see Bruce Wayne!

If they go with an actor on a similar scale as Cornsweat for Batman - from a business point of view - then Wonder Woman needs to be a big name. If they’re not going to do- Gal Gadot alt universe, then it needs to be a big name for WW.
Having said that, if they go with an actress on a similar level as Cornsweat and future Batman - that’s fine as well- Hollywood also creates the stars they have so, that can work - but the STORY of the universe needs to really connect to the public. I would love for DC to get to a place where everyone is consumed in a story, opposed to excited about this project or that one.

Yeah, the crest that we got at Cinemacon won’t have any edgy points on the suit. But from what we got of the crest on the suit, it definitely looks to be more rounded than having those edgy points on it. Which either is fine with me, both look great.
I think speculation is fun, I know on Twitter people actually get mad about it for some old reason. They just take things way too seriously, the people who speculate about having fun with it are fine.

Brave and the Bold is my most anticipated DCU project since I’m a big Batman fan (Superman and Arkham are right behind it) so whenever there’s any news I’m always quick to know!

A banger as always! I personally think they should cast batman with a “nobody”/under the radar type actor specifically because of the expectations. When you get a big name for a character like Batman, fans tend to expect that actor’s performance to be the same as their other memorable movies when it may not give out the same presentation leaving the fans with the perspective that the actors either fell off or is washed. Low radar actors tend to make a real stand point when they get a film like this
I want it to be that there are multiple villains in the movie where Lex is the overarching one, and superman fights Lex Luthor's superman clone.

IMO I want Batman to not have Armour, just the fabric suit. This is the fantastical Batman Universe, so don't make him have Armour! Idk I'm excited though.
For the Superman suit I would like for them to make it with no trunk, no collar and a smaller version of the superman logo in the neck region of the outfit on the Cape (top and centre of the Cape) idk if a version like what i described already exists or not but it would be cool to see it.

The original crest, logo, whatever you call it on the back of the cape was the same as on his chest except it was all in yellow. On the picture on Superman's death you can see it.perfectly blowing in the breeze.
Emblem on the back would be amazing but it’s obviously just one of those things that’s cool if you get it but if ya don’t then it doesn’t really make a difference
I think the clone will start as a sort of dark reflection of Superman but will quickly deteriorate into the more tragic bizarro. This will also help us to get to know Clark as we see how he empathizes with him.

I would like an Unknown for the Bat, but the story and director needs to be good. People will pay to see if a new player can pull it off. But I would say it all hangs on how much money they make or loose on the upcoming projects. I'm 56 I've been reading these things from the age of 5 , Life before all the Retcon's

You HAVE to have the gold outline on the back of the cape!!! There’s no reason not to. It would add more detail to the suit that hasn’t showed up in live action
I've been saying this for a while, but I would very much not be opposed to the new DC films skipping Jason and Tim and just having Damien be the second Robin in this continuity. I think that'd be a very interesting direction to take things.

It's simple: to play Superman (and to do this well), you need to find an actor who is not only perfect looking, but ALSO be a GREAT actor and with RANGE (and this is extremely difficult). There is no harder role than Superman for an actor to portray, and make him interesting and fascinating to watch. All the other heroes are easy to perform in comparison. Ask any actor or director. That's why Christopher Reeve is still revered to this day.

We definitely won't have to wait until next year's Cinemacon for the first trailer/teaser for Superman. More than likely it gets a superbowl teaser amd then they show something special at cinemacon, similar to Deadpool and Wolverine

i see your point.. BUT im so tired of seeing a superheroes first movie fighting an evil mirror version of themselves. Example: Black panther v Killmonger (Black Panther), hulk v abomination (The Incredible Hulk), iron man v Obadiah Stane (Iron Man), Antman v Yellowjacket (Ant-Man), Thor v loki (Thor), The flash v Evil Barry (The Flash), Superman v evil superman (superman III), Wolverine v Sabertooth (Wolverine orgins), etc.

I'm hoping the DCU Batman is a lot like Iron Man, with a big focus on gadgets, charismatic and popular Bruce Wayne, in the cave in the day working on tech, parties in the evening being a goof, then out as Batman at night in a complete character shift
Man Im really hoping for jake gyllenhaul as dcu batman. I just like his movies a lot and think hes a great/likable actor. Still more exited about the batman part 2 tho, first one became one of my favourate movies ever

Honestly, I do not care for a Superman Logo on the cape, nor do I care or the trunks too, but I have to just make peace with the possibility of the trunks being a character in this movie. At this point I just want a good Superman movie since we could not get MOS 2. There is so much at stake for DC which is my favorite franchise from comic books to everything else, I just want DC to be GREAT entertainment, give us the comic book experience we've craved for. I trust James Gunn as a creative (yes this is coming from a Snyder fan), I think both are great and capable. At the end of the day, I just want DC Comics to take the W now consistently with great movies that give the fans what they want.
