  • How to Introduce New Foods
Hi, today we’re going to talk about how to introduce new foods. It’s kind of a scary topic but it can be really fun. So we first want to start out with a preferred food. I like chips!
So some of the things I like to do is put it on the tray and have them eat two or three of their preferred foods and then after that I like to go “Clean up, Clean up.”
And then we start with a food that is a similar color, similar size, or a similar texture. One of my favorite things to use is veggie sticks.
Veggie sticks are the same texture, they’re both crunchy. So it’s a good segue.
Veggie sticks are also green, so it’s a good segue into a vegetable.
With a veggie stick, if they like to eat them, if not I like to use a masher. We can mash the veggie sticks or I like to use a chopper and we can chop the veggie sticks and hopefully they’ll eat them. If not, playing with them is still good.
After that, I like to link it to a vegetable like sugar snap peas. Because they’re green.
Chips are similar to veggie sticks and veggies sticks are similar to sugar snap peas based on the color.

Is the speech therapist the one that introduces the food?
