Outstanding, I’ve had the DJI FPV drone for a year and originally used the standard controller and was unimpressed. As soon as I switched to the motion controller, it was like moving from a bus to a Ferrari. Additionally, I’ve found that if I bring along a portable camping chair, it’s more like actually flying (you have more control) and you are less susceptible to dizziness. Thank you for posting!
But you can’t fly in manual mode using the motion controller??? I’m considering purchasing the Avata pro view combo. I’ve never flown FPV. Will I be shocked??
@@jeffsondif it can fly in manual/acro mode thay would be super awesome! It would be like having a cyclic stick of a helicopter and you get a ton of precision with it!
Nailed it! You unlocked a feature no one has talked about: Using the Head Track feature combined with the Motion Controller to simulate dives. Great! 👍
The head tracking and motion controller together really does open up a lot more agility I posted a video showing off the head tracking a few days ago with low flying orbits and tight turns, I have even found flying backwards is possible using head tracking that’s a video in the works 😃

Hi Stewart. - could I ask what post production software you use, I'm a bit of a newbie to drone, Mavic and Avata - but post and editing is getting me a bit flummoxed - cheers - love the videos 👍👍👍👍👍
I've been doing my videos with the Motion Controller. It is absolutely fun to fly with. I can hit gaps just fine. Shawn Oz made a comment on a show that I think is absolutely true. He said if he's watching an FPV video and they do a flip he stops watching. That is probably true for a high percentage of the audience. People don't want to watch videos to get dizzy. Nothing wrong with it and its cool but that has a limited audience. As you said, the MC and head tracking give the 90% of the people enough of that FPV experience w/o having to learn Manual mode. There is a new MC coming supposedly. If they add buttons to do flips right/left and then power loop button, it will virtually eliminate the need for the regular RC. Keep in mind our best pilots flying the best Fighter Jets all fly with ......... a Joystick. If they added a front sensor for ground detection, they could add a dive button to the MC. It would end up looking smoother than any manual mode dive in all likelihood. The Wii U really started the MC craze and worked well for many games. All the VR goggles coming with MC. A motion controller for flying is the future and it will only get better. The MC is a good way to catch all those kids playing with Oculus to come over and fly drones with them. A whole new target audience sucked into drones :).
Great comment! Indeed, I suspect this is just the start of things with the motion controller. I'll be using the normal controller to learn manual flight but I suspect in the fullness of time this will be replaced by the motion controller.
I have to sit when flying my cinewhoops in acro, far from an accomplished fpv pilot but confidence is growing, hitting smaller gaps, but man it’s hard work. The Avata will take a lot the heavy lifting for me now.

Sure I did a little hover and move around test. but strictly by line of site (LOS) not wearing the goggles. Now I have purchased the AVATA package with the FPV goggles V2 option. So it's great to have 2 set of goggles so I can now share flight experience. An having the controller V2 is a plus as well. The AVATA is much less intimidating and actually fun to fly. Should make the transition the the FPV unit much easier. I actually just recently started FPV with a little iFlight Alpha A85. By the 4th time around my small property, I was getting the hang of things, and stopped running into the ground so often. LOL So now I'm anxious to fly the AVATA whenever this bad weather clears. hi stewart, have you found a way to adjust the sensitivity of head tracking + motion control? I am trying to calibrate so the sensitivity curve is more flat, to smooth out my jerked head movements.
I don’t think I’ll use the motion control much either but it will be a great means to share the fun of flying with friends and family who don’t know how to fly manual👍
Can it Strafe? Like can I manually do a Point of Interest Orbit where I fly around a building in a circle and keep the building at the on camera the whole time?
Nice Video. I learned FPV the hard way about 5 years ago. Probably over $5000 in repairs in the first two years. I just got the Avata for Christmas. Excited that I will be able to let my family members actually fly it verses just watch while I fly my old drones in manual. There are lots of cool features that should make video easier and safer indoors for me. The auto braking was hard to get used to at first in normal or sport mode. No sense of floating or falling - which I do miss, but this definitely allows beginners to experience the thrill of FPV. I can't wait to throw it in manual mode after I connect my other FPV air controller. Head tracking looks pretty awesome. A little nervous to try head tracking in manual though.
As usual, Stewart and Alina deliver the most helpful review and demo - exactly the info I was looking for. All the footage from my Mavic/Air2/Air2s is so beautifully smooth and silky, but it's also kinda boring. I bought the Avata in hopes of bringing a little dynamic and exciting footage into my videos, but I wasn't sure if the motion controller could deliver. You've shown that it can. Thank you!
Right, I guess the more experienced fpv operators have some sort of ego to maintain? But for me, this looks like a great opportunity to start adding more cinematic drone footage to my existing portfolio...
@@airadaimagery692 for sure, my main interest is in cinematic footage so to that end it's a great tool that makes it easy, if my goal was acrobatics then yeah it's not gonna work. It is the Internet after all, people love to argue 😂
@@airadaimagery692 I think most people are upset that DJI is releasing a drone that by default of packages included, none of them can use the manual mode. So basically DJI is selling a product that cannot be fully used without buying an additional product not included (or even in stock) with the package. Half of the shots that were put in the product launch trailer for the Avata cannot be obtained without using manual mode, which you cannot use without the FPV controller. People are also likely upset because if you know for a fact that you DON'T want the motion controller and have no interest in ever using it, that is a fair thought to have and they should be given the option to buy the Avata package with the FPV controller instead of the motion controller.
@@JohnDoesDrones yes, this is very frustrating. If I’m going to spend this much money, I feel I should be getting everything that it is capable of and offered with, I agree.
I love it. I am getting prepped to hit the road across America for 6 months or better to do photography and video. Looking forward to picking up this Avata to add to my camera inventory. REALLY enthused about this.
Thanks for that. One of the best videos I've seen about the Avata. From what I understand then, the motion controller controls the movement of the craft, while the head tracking justs add gimbal control to it (tile via the gimbal itself and pan by the craft)??? As for full manual control sometime this type of flying distracts from the content of the piece and the viewer just concentrates on the movement not the subject, so I think for the majority of film makers, this is al they'll need.
By you stepping outside your comfort zone, and delving into areas lacking your normal high level expertise/experience, while maintaining a sharp eye 👁 on the incredible footage, you made the Avata really attractive for us without FVP chops. It did for me, anyway. I've been adamant that I don't need or want THIS DJI beast. An argument that worked with 2020's FPV. It's not holding up so well in 2022, and YOU ARE NOT HELPING, Stewart! I am doing financial juggling, adding Goggles etc. Thanks Stewart. Thanks a lot! 😒
I am really liking my new Avata. I haven't messed around too much with the goggles using them for motion in combo with the motion controller. I am really enjoying it so far. I'd like to get the Controller 2, but in the mean time and since it is a bit challenging to get one. I'd guess I have to settle for this combo. Might as well have some fun in the mean time. Glad you like it and boy, what a view you chose to do your video.
I flew my Avata for the first time today and it was a total blast! Never flew FPV before but with the motion controller it made it really easy.. I was flying through structures and skimming the ground and it felt totally safe... I can see with some practice I could be doing much more sophisticated moves pretty quickly with this.. and I hope to move up to manual mode after a bunch of time in the simulator as well..
@@GooseDanny oh not yet... I did sport mode and flew through grandstands at the town park with no problem... Just watched a video on how to use the flight simulator with the goggles... will train on that first before doing real-life manual mode... I never flew FPV before... but it really makes it easier to fly.. having that FPV view makes a huge difference over flying a standard camera drone...
Hi Love videos I learn a lot too. Just wanted to know how does one download videos from the Avata to your iPhone or iPad. If you know could you please advise me? Thanks hope you have a blessed day. Always John
I was about to go bonkers with the sarcastic title Stewart. But you gotta get the clickthroughs. Anyway, been watching you for awhile, and your content is excellent. I love the Avata and love to see fresh thinking in remote controls.
NOT a fan of motion controller but admit you did and showed its ability. Like you say what you do with it that counts! Having said that, I like DJI product but hate their marketing. It seems they have activated their foot soldiers to sell where they couldn't sell with the first FPV drone version. The fact that they did not include the remote controller as an option proves what I stated. Very sad. I hope consumer community realize this and take action! After all we work hard for the money we make and have choice to go along or not. This should not take away excellent presentation you have in this video. Well done 👍
The motion controller and the head tracking work really well together I posted a video on my profile showing orbits, tight turns and I am working on even flying backwards with the motion controller, using both together really does open up a lot more agility 👍
This is the EXACT DJI Avata video on head tracking w/ the motion controller that I've been teaching RUclips endlessly in search of the last week or two. THANK YOU a ton for taking the time to test, learn, and teach us anything about the feature. Especially because everyone else's videos seem to casually gloss over that new fav software addition. Much appreciated Man & Keep up the great work, please.
Finally! after so many useless reviews on the Avata, we get a proper goggles review explains the head tracking. What I don't understand is that I can see that moving your head up and down would be like moving the gimbal slider while flying with the motion controller which I do with the fpv anyway, but what about when you look to the side, the gimbal can't move, does the camera yaw? that doesn't work either?!
Great Stewart! When I buy it I probably won't have the cash do buy the normal controller. For what I have seen in your video, I think I won't need the regular controller. Instead I can invest in more batteries. thanks for that and cheers from Brazil.
The combination of the motion control and head tracking seems to open up a bit more responsiveness or at least gives that impression and I can't understand why more reviewers aren't talking about this. I'm interested in this drone and watching this has made me a little less concerned that I would need the other FPV controller.
I believe the reason why is because it’s just a totally new combination of features and we are all just beginning to understand how to apply it. Each camp will have its own use case and also there is a learning curve to everything. Soon enough we will see how each pilot discovers a use for it or not.
head tracking is mandatory if you want to do film with motion control. without it, your viewpoint is locked onto nosepoint and you wont be able to do orbitals, or even back up.
@@hraeta2 combo motion C with HT is what makes this drone unique. It’s amazing to me. And people that have never flown can experience it too if they want or if not prone to motion sickness.
How can you connect the goggles 2 to the virtual flight with motion controller for practice ? The app only shows goggles v2 ( very consign as both have a 2 in the title) and it won’t let you use the new goggles - any ideas 💡 thanks and great video
@@ayeyammel thanks 🙏 do you mean swipe on the side of the Googles 2 ?? I’m not sure what you mean …. Anyways the app doesn’t support the motion controller as far as I can see …
Super fun video session, I think I would be inclined to sit in a portable lawn chair with arm rests to steady my controller hand/arm combo, or tell Alina you need an ATV to sit comfortably while flying your drone much like an F-16 fighter pilot. Many fpv pilots begin with there butts firmly grounded to avoid dizziness and nausea. Great demo and good-luck with the Range Rover ATV. Cheers!
I have never flown fpv except for a couple hours on the simulator. However, I am very intrigued by the idea of a cinewhoop to add to my drone footage, and this is looking more and more like something that I probably should try out. It’s too bad you can’t do some of the more exaggerated dives like you can with the sticks? I guess that will be something that I will develop in time with lots of practice on the sticks...
At the moment, the 'dive' I demonstrate in this video is really more of a controlled descent with the gimbal pointed down. A proper dive is really just cutting the power and flinging the drone towards the ground using momentum and gravity. Something I also need to work on!
After flying my avata where it’s like being sat in the cockpit I find my mini 3 boring as you blink and you lose sight of it and if the sun is on the controller screen you can’t see a lot
I was in two minds whether to buy the Avata because I thought I would need a Spotter to be able to fly in the UK, looks like I was wrong after watching your video, thanks for clarifying.
Head tracking is pretty cool... I think it looked allot smoother without the head tracking. But like he says with more practice probably make some fixed wing looking videos until you stop and hover and blow people's minds 😀. 👍🏼👍🏼

Nice shots !!! This drone is devil :D
Thank you!
For sure, I think you'll be happy. I think it's just about having expectations in the right place.
Yeah I don't understand the hate for it, I love using it and will continue to do so until my FPV controller turns up and it's time to learn manual :D
Ditto
Fantastic clip thanks for sharing .
I’m looking at getting the avatar this week .
Cheers

By you stepping outside your comfort zone, and delving into areas lacking your normal high level expertise/experience, while maintaining a sharp eye 👁 on the incredible footage, you made the Avata really attractive for us without FVP chops. It did for me, anyway. I've been adamant that I don't need or want THIS DJI beast. An argument that worked with 2020's FPV. It's not holding up so well in 2022, and YOU ARE NOT HELPING, Stewart! I am doing financial juggling, adding Goggles etc. Thanks Stewart. Thanks a lot! 😒
Ha! Thanks for the comment. Indeed, the DJI FPV is a pretty intense/terrifying introduction to FPV whereas this is much more accessible.
Top marks for clever video title
The FPV goggles they make crush my nose.
I can see with some practice I could be doing much more sophisticated moves pretty quickly with this.. and I hope to move up to manual mode after a bunch of time in the simulator as well..
did you fly manual?
@@GooseDanny oh not yet... I did sport mode and flew through grandstands at the town park with no problem... Just watched a video on how to use the flight simulator with the goggles... will train on that first before doing real-life manual mode... I never flew FPV before... but it really makes it easier to fly.. having that FPV view makes a huge difference over flying a standard camera drone...
Hi Love videos I learn a lot too. Just wanted to know how does one download videos from the Avata to your iPhone or iPad. If you know could you please advise me? Thanks hope you have a blessed day. Always John
I just love my test it yesterday 😊
Stewart great review, thanks for checking out the Motion Controller. I just got mine and will start the charging and set up.
Well done 👍
The motion controller and the head tracking work really well together I posted a video on my profile showing orbits, tight turns and I am working on even flying backwards with the motion controller, using both together really does open up a lot more agility 👍
you are doing what i want to be doing right now. Also.... you totally got me with the video title lol
_thank you for sharing this can be my RUclips video reference by trying the fpv drone, thank you my friend for sharing, this looks like fun_ 👍👌❤️
So great! I need to consider that! 👍😉
Finally! after so many useless reviews on the Avata, we get a proper goggles review explains the head tracking. What I don't understand is that I can see that moving your head up and down would be like moving the gimbal slider while flying with the motion controller which I do with the fpv anyway, but what about when you look to the side, the gimbal can't move, does the camera yaw? that doesn't work either?!
I would love to see you do a indoors real estate video with the Avata using the motion controller!
Does the motion controller work when you are flying on a moving object like a boat or vehicle? Probably not?
Where did you shoot all the footage? Just gorgeous.
Scottish Highlands. Up near Ullapool. Cheers!
Brilliant video, where is it filmed ?
I've got to ask mate but what are you standing on it looks like a road that goes strait into and under water ?. Brilliant video by way.
Hey! That's exactly what it is. There's a dam down the road so the area's been flooded and a new road built round the side.
What sim let’s you use the motion controller?
How can you jsut go sideways? No yaw?
Why do you not see the frame on looking down vs other times it does?
Where you in glencoe last Monday bank holiday weekend? I think I might of seen you with a drone and then later came across your challenge
Great video Stuart. The motion controller and head track looks a lot of fun.
Thanks Lyn!!
I guess i should buy the Avata pro view combo. Really want to try FPV
Would I be able to land the drone on a moving sailboat ? I can do it with my mini 2 but it's a tough landing....and if you miss, guess where it goes
Loved your color correction! Any tips on what software to use as a beginner to edit?
great video. amazing
Great Stewart! When I buy it I probably won't have the cash do buy the normal controller. For what I have seen in your video, I think I won't need the regular controller. Instead I can invest in more batteries. thanks for that and cheers from Brazil.
Are you using the v2 headset or the 2
Do you also have to deal with the restricted 2km UK range restrictions?
a great video thankyou
The combination of the motion control and head tracking seems to open up a bit more responsiveness or at least gives that impression and I can't understand why more reviewers aren't talking about this.
I'm interested in this drone and watching this has made me a little less concerned that I would need the other FPV controller.
I believe the reason why is because it’s just a totally new combination of features and we are all just beginning to understand how to apply it. Each camp will have its own use case and also there is a learning curve to everything. Soon enough we will see how each pilot discovers a use for it or not.
Because they are tech reviews and not filmmakers like Stewart.
head tracking is mandatory if you want to do film with motion control. without it, your viewpoint is locked onto nosepoint and you wont be able to do orbitals, or even back up.
@@hraeta2 combo motion C with HT is what makes this drone unique. It’s amazing to me. And people that have never flown can experience it too if they want or if not prone to motion sickness.
Thanks for this video! Now I will try head tracking!! Looks like a lot of fun!! Have you found a good backpack for the Avata???
How can you connect the goggles 2 to the virtual flight with motion controller for practice ? The app only shows goggles v2 ( very consign as both have a 2 in the title) and it won’t let you use the new goggles - any ideas 💡 thanks and great video
on the goggles 2, swipe right, pick the last option, and choose virtual flight
@@ayeyammel thanks 🙏 do you mean swipe on the side of the Googles 2 ?? I’m not sure what you mean …. Anyways the app doesn’t support the motion controller as far as I can see …
Great video, thanks.
Do you know of the head tracking for the gimbal will work with the classic controller as well?
Looks like so much fun!!! If they can make one under 250g I'm all in.
Cheers!
could you do flips with the motion controller?
You go boy…..really enjoyed your presentation and I can’t leave out The phenomenal flying that you did very impressive😀
Can you use the motion controller from inside a moving car, or it will turn at every turn of the car?
How are you able to display your goggle video?
Head tracking is pretty cool... I think it looked allot smoother without the head tracking. But like he says with more practice probably make some fixed wing looking videos until you stop and hover and blow people's minds 😀. 👍🏼👍🏼
what do you use to steady the footage or is this directly from the drone
Directly from the drone.
great video thank you! thinking about getting this! do we still need licence for UK please?
Avata with Motion controller is absolutely NOT shi#. This drone do exactly this for what it was made in 100% BTW, great test and video! 😅👍
awesome 👍👍
DHL were supposed to deliver mine yesterday, they never turned up! waited in all day and was hoping to start playing this weekend as already scouted some derelict locations, gutted, now saying Monday, let’s hope nobody has had it away! Looking like I’ll be getting the fpv controller before the Avata! Ps. Freewell now have ND filters in stock for the Avata.
Also check out OriginalBodo duct repair video as he has some interesting rubber duct protectors I’ve just ordered to make it even more indestructible.
Did you try the horizon leveling?
Great Video I agree with. Any the motion controller is where its at for the emersive experience. And how the jell you guys fly standing up with goggles is impressive lmao 🤣
Two Questions...
1. Does anyone experience motion sickness?
2. So what's the advantage then of using an RC instead of the hand controller?
Thanks!
Using motion controller: mild dizziness, which I think will get better with experience; I prefer to sit in a chair or lean against a wall
@@jacobgerritsenfilms3559 Thanks! Just curious...what's the view like thru these goggles, do you get a sense that your flying?
@@jc4evur661 very similar to Sony Playstation VR; except that made me super dizzy and even a little nauseated
not really like flying as you yourself aren't moving
Great video
Mines in the mail
i Totally agree with your sentiment if you can then... embrace but still.. you have to be a camera guy... the shot, the angle.. you carnt teach that..
Someone, DJI or anyone. Please make more quiet props for this small beast.
