Listening to his early pieces really gives me some insight into how his musical style morphed. I find it hard to pinpoint what this style is based on, but I really like it.
Spoiler, but the opening theme from the prelude, in a modified form, became the final theme of his Viola Sonata. As soon as I understood this, all my knowledge about Shostakovich merged into one...
The first movement sounds influenced by Rachmaninoff. Would be cool if it was arranged for orchestra. Could also see it being in a film score, especially the main theme.
He was only 16 then. Amazing composition.
According to the book I'm reading he was 15.
@@manyatruefail - Yes.
He was born in September, 1906. This piece was composed in March, 1922, a month after his father's death. So he was not yet 16 then.
@@cathy2202 But I was near. Come on. 😉
I hope one day I can get past the first movement but for now I can't stop replaying it
What an amazing work and performance!!

Beethoven. Mixed with Russian march music
What a masterpiece!
The performers are Sabrina Alberti and Luisa Fanti Zurkowskaja.

This means he ended his last piece with the melody of one of his earliest preludes.. Beautifully done Shostakovich 👏👏
Early Shostakovich is surprising comparable to mature Shostakovich!
Catchy
Nice piece! I'm wondering how I could get this score. I wanna try to perform it.
I think this is the Sikorski edition! I think there should also be free scores online on sheet music plus or musescore.
@@いちごだいふく-x9i it’s hard to find tbh, this is my first time seeing its sheet music.
@@いちごだいふく-x9i it is still under copyright

Not really a Masterpiece. I was disappointed of the banal writing and boring figuration in the parts.
