Loved living in Rhodanie. It was actually totally renovated in 2000. My room also on the 3rd Floor in the East building was brand new. At the time FMEL put the Americans there and Fallaises. I wish that I could go back to work and live. The stipend hasn’t changed in 20 years which is a little shocking.
@@SolivagantJules I know! I’ve been feeling very nostalgic lately and watching a lot of Lausanne, UNIL, and EPFL content. I was particularly looking for EPFL tours. The campus has changed so much. It was the most amazing time, and maybe the worst in some ways. Some of the exchange students, a professor, and the woman in charge of the bourse was quite mean, actually. And, it was tough adjusting. I should have been more adventurous and made Swiss friends. But, I loved my room in Rhodanie, the environment, the accessibility to everything by train or bus. I would do it all again! I want to go back! You probably missed out on the Manora buffet at Place St. Francois? It was always so good. As were many of the restaurants. We ate a lot though at Chez Mario (best pizza), and my favorite Ma-jong. Santé à toi!
@@NarcFreedom the campus is so beautiful! I remember we had city bikes to use and that was our main mode of transport but they would always end up in Ouchy. I would say I started making Swiss friends toward the end but Rhodanie was all foreign so it was natural to make friends through our housing situation. We almost never ate out, I think maybe three times total, but we had huge dinners and lots of wine. It was the best time and I felt like I had a close community. Too bad I didn’t do a campus tour!!! Maybe I’ll go back someday
@@SolivagantJules oh yes we had huge dinners together all the time and we were all close to the others that lived at Falaises. There weren’t many other student housing units at that time. And that was perhaps the one downfall of having only foreign students together. It was isolating from the Swiss students. If I were to do it over I would meet locals and use the opportunity to do an internship.
@@NarcFreedom We did too! I also didn't meet a lot of Swiss people but now I'm back writing my thesis at EPFL and I'm meeting many more Swiss folks. What a place to be alive! They're building tons of new student housing now, even up to Renens
I think if you start at the beginning level, you should be okay. Most professors will only speak to you in french though, so be aware of that. Lausanne is actually very diverse and in terms of food and lifestyle, it's environmentally friendly with lots of veg options.

That’s wild, thanks for sharing your experience. I always wonder about past students and their experience living in this style of housing haha
