Very touching to hear Phil talking about Boon especially considering his anniversary is close , great to hear Phil so positive and enthusiastic about the album and future ideas. Thank you Julian.
Great interview Jules. I was laughing out loud when you called one of Phil’s tracks “Fruit Love” 😂. I really like the meaning behind the songs. What a great guy Phil is. 🤙
Speaking of Dance. I remember meeting Phil at the backstage door, Hammersmith. He signed a yellow scarf, I said you can never wash that now! We all laughed and the moment was fixed for me. Look forward to the album and hearing Boon..Thanks Jules
And listeneing to Phil talk about his songs is truly magical..great interview...Love that lyric, " I didn't mean to cause you pain, but created the weather and blamed me for the rain".
Another great interview Julian. Thanks Phil for your interesting stories behind the Beautiful Wounds album, can't wait for the vinyl and CD. looking forward to part two.
Great interview with Phil Gould, Julian. Always wonderful to gain some insight into a musician's work. His sound and lyrics were definitely missed after he left Level 42; so glad we have his solo work to enjoy now. He seems to be a good storyteller, too!
Well done Julian on your interview with Phil. Very interesting and great to see Phil speaking in his own words. Great stuff mate. Good to see your series of interviews :)
Wally Badarou brought in an extra dimension to the Level 42. It was an inspired move by PG to push for WB as part of the L42 sound. The band should credit PG with the prescient vision that he had. He's eloquent when he speaks. It was well worth a listen ... And a relisten.
Totally agree. Wally bought something to the sound and tied in with Mike and the babd so well that Level 42 wouldn't have sounded quite the same. I write to Wally when "Myspace" was live and I thanked him for his efforts on " 💜Words of a Mountain" which is fantastic. His reply was, "Thankyou for such kind words and more words soon!"
Great interview. Phil is one of the drummers who influenced me when I first began to play drums. He and Stewart Copeland. I only play for hobby now but I still love listening to the early level 42 albums and Phil’s solo projects. Both he and Stewart are on my bucket list to meet one day. Thanks for for your level 42 content Julian from here in USA Florida,
Incredible part 1! Thank you Phil and Julian! Not only for this wonderful interview, but always great questions! Phil has sold another CD, and very grateful to hear Phil and Boon later in the year...and thank you Phil! It's so interesting to hear the inspiration and Phil sharing his creative process, songwriting and those he collaborated with on Beautiful Wounds sessions! Looking forward to more releases, and thank you again Both of you for reaching out to all fans during this Pandemic!
Phil is a long time hero of mine. He was also the reason I’ve written lyrics for every band I’ve drummed in, although you won’t have heard of any of them!
Everytime I'm at a Level 42 concert I miss his drumming. Okay..granted...all the other drummers that came after him bring a lot of chops with them, but they all lack that special feeling and "musical" drum playing that Phil brought into the songs...on record and live!
Love all the level 42 brotherhood...even the ultra ultra lefty ones. You hit a raw nerve with his ex wife there mate..😃great interview Julian...fantastic work as ever
@@JulianHallLevel42 yeah I recall. Didn't they pick you up and take you for dinner/lunch?. Always sad when people split. ...I'm going to say hello to you at cliffs gig so look out for the bald bloke

Great interview Julian, I've got to check out this new album of Phil's. Please keep up doing interviews of the band old and new members. Cheers Shaun.
Trying other members as we speak Shaun.
F^%*in legend of a drummer and songwriter!

Part 2 is even longer so set more time aside Leslie.

Yeah Phil played a huge part in the formation and sound of L42..without him it would not be special I would think

You'll see in my Q&A with Wally that he spent a lot of time giving the answers.

I hope you enjoy the 2 clips on April 11th & 14th Mark as we do discuss electric drums and his first ever kit.
Thank you Julian. I’ll take a look 😊
This will be good. Phil is so interesting.
Your question does get answered Nick.

Yep. A quick retraction Jeoff but as I have met Lois, that's why I named her.

Watching now it’s brilliant Jules
Mark Next!!
Despite 2 letters he's not replied Norm so I think that says it's a no unfortunately.
Hi again JULIAN
Catcha then!!
You and many I hope CC.
Things which stood out for me in this interview….Boon, Wally, Julia Margaret Cameron and vinyl+limitations.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Does Phil ever collaborate with Mark anymore? I know he and Mike have. Loved this interview. Always had a crush on Phil. ;)
No Erin. They played together with Mike at a private gig after Boon died but that's it recently.
Hi Julian notice taken rgds giovanni
