Alright, boys, but like Luffy does change, so many things happen in the story that effect the way he thinks and acts, like i dont wanna spoil it but the way that like whole cake and wano work its clear hes thinking about what he has to do.
I feel like Nick doesn't fully understand what the main overall theme of Naruto was because he has brought up this idea that side characters like Sakura, Rock Lee, and Neji better exemplify the show's message multiple times in the past as well. While in OG Naruto, the show is mainly about Naruto working hard to overcome being weak (blatantly being called "the weakest genin" multiple times), Shippuden is almost entirely about getting Sasuke to come back to the village. It might not make sense what the theme really is at this point, but once it's revealed that Naruto and Sasuke are reincarnations of two brothers who are pretty much destined to fight for eternity through their reincarnations, it becomes clear. The main theme is about overcoming the "bad" fate that you are destined for. Denying what people may stereotype you to be and showing them that you are better. And while other characters also demonstrate this, Naruto has been doing it from Day 1. This is why in OG Naruto the show was about Naruto working hard to get stronger by learning multi-shadow clone jutsu, summoning jutsu and the rasengan. Because everyone else had categorized him as the weird, loud kid who was weak. Once Sasuke leaves, the show becomes a show about getting him back. This is because it is the opposite of what previous reincarnations of Indra and Ashura would do. I don't mind comparing the two shows, but for someone who is supposed to be the Naruto expert, Nick has a lack of understanding of what his main source of income is about.

I agree that most people won't put Luffy in their number 1 spot for fav One Piece character, but my belief is that you won't find him outside of most One Piece fans' top 3 out of that huge ensemble cast. Even if you put aside whether you like him standalone, he is probably your favorite character's ride-or-die and that dynamic is often compelling enough to get him up there alone. If you like Zoro for any of the obvious reasons, you also like Luffy for how they keep each other's edge. If you like Nami for being the brains, you like Luffy for being the brawn and for often being the reason the brains are necessary. etc...

They WILL not care that they were used. Harbor freight would probably be better because their generators are cheaper and relatively quiet.

Danny doesnt really know about his backstory in Goa yet, so Ill forgive him but once you get to that point its like: Luffy knows so intimately that living outside of society doesnt mean it cant reach or hurt you or the people you care about. Also 'what is a pirate' is something that is discussed all throughout One Piece and actively moving against the government is not it. Thats what the revolutionarys do.
I am surprised that in a conversation about the best MC, and about character growth Edward Elric wasn't discussed. Their early trauma with Nina's death and fight with Scar broke most people.

I think most people think Naruto is about hard work and overcoming obstacles but I genuinely believe it’s actually about love and bonds and becoming stronger because of those bonds. Case in point, the final battle of Naruto has literally nothing to do with hard work or talent.
I understand where Danny is coming from regarding Luffy since he is only in skypiea, but he is truly looking for freedom for himself and those around him, not only is he wanted as soon as he goes out to sea, but also meets people and goes places where tyranny is a given and he does everything he can to break the cycle. I think becoming the king of the pirates is his way of being free and spreading that freedom to everyone he knows

He never gives up, he literally overcomes not only his own hatred but so many other characters (zabuza Neji gaara pain obito kurama sasuke etc) and finally changes his fate by breaking the cycle of hatred. Nicks idea that narutos about “Hardwork beats talent” is wrong and is a very popular misinterpretation of the series. That’s why he thinks characters like sakura Neji lee and guy embody the themes better. That theme was lees theme not narutos. Narutos a great MC for his series if you actually know the themes.

Luffy is such a good mc because he isn't just your typical stupid main anime character. When it comes to his ideals and emotions, he will understand the situation and show his intelligence about the situation.
An important thing to consider is the possibility that as ai robots would expand and grow, they'd be superior but not necessarily malevolent. Just like the new generations of human are the hope for improvement and betterment of society, while culture and society adapt around them, same can be said for the robots. A lot of the issues with society essentially stem from humanity's inability to escape their own perspective and attempt to force their worldview into maintaining relevance when new ideas and minds should be taking hold to improve our lives. If humans benefit from a society where robots are allowed to shape society, there's literally no issue other than base tribalism. There's not a scenario where humans just die off or are subjugated, because the robots don't have the flaws that humans do that manifested such things. The best analogy I can think of it would be if we had the ideal world that was handicap accessible, to the best of our abilities as society and to the benefit of our "less dominant" groups. Wed essentially be the handicapped people in a society of robots but to a good extent not a shitty one like the current US or something.

The hard line i draw with the robot discussion is that standards should persist. Both appearance and maturity are relevant and if you disregard one because it's a robot, then you bring up the concern of normalizing crossing that line.
I don't personally know how far you guys are into one piece, but it's safe to say that you are far enough to understand how Luffy and the story works since you mentioned road poneglyphs (the big square red stones) or alabasta arc. It's not that complicated, Luffy is a simple person. He doesn't care about the intricacy of the world he just wants to go on an adventure and share it with his friends, and if that concept is not for you that's fine, but that doesn't make Luffy a boring MC rather a unique one. Every other MC is present enough to care about someones problem or be invested on what the main issue of their world is. Not Luffy. There is certainly a political aspect in the one piece world and Luffy for better or for worse is involved in it, but that doesn't mean that he actively wants to change the world. He doesn't go with a plan, he is unpredictable, and is this trait that he has that makes him dangerous for the government, because if he was someone that actively said "my goal in life is to take you down" they will respond accordingly, but Luffy is just there for the journey and if these guys are blocking it, he will just defeat them. That's basically it. That's what makes him a pirate. regardless of who you are or what you do, if you step in front of my path or hurt someone i care about, i will beat you, and what i get in return for doing that i won't share it with anyone. He doesn't stick around to hear the sad backstory of his firends, he just knows that they are hurt, they are sad and that's enough for him, all they have to do is tell him what they want, be selfish for once in their life and he will help. "they are not pirates" they are. they act like pirates, just without being total dicks about it. there have been countless moments in the story were the people retaliated against them end they did not care. they have taken hostages, went away with treasures, if someone beat a crewmate, they will destroy the existence of who did it. There are pirates that are brutal, pirates that can be cold, pirates that can be firm in their decisions, pirates that just want to have fun. there are different varieties and you can't make them fit in one mold. Trying to find a complicated path for a character that at its core is the most simple person that you can find is not the right perspective to go into one piece. The complicated aspects in the story do exist and they have the right characters that care about it, you just won't find that care in Luffy

I will say this, hardwork is totally a theme but i think the real major theme of naruto is connecting and getting over hatred and cycles of such. Hard work is never said to be the end all be all it helps, it gets you further than youi think. Neji and all that was really about giving up and justifying that so he could wallow in his hatred and not change the situation and narutos tenacity mixed with his ability to connect is what changed nejis min. Even Kurama being personified as a being of hate that Naruto eventually brought to his side. This basically explains talk no jutsu, the technique he learned from Iruka connecting to him. Even the Ashura/Indra angle was Naruto finally bucking the cycle of hatred by finally connecting with Sasuke which he wasnt able to with their 1st fight. He even outright says to Haguromo that he ISN'T Ashura and neither is Sasuke outright defying the cycle and chooosing his own path.
100% agree. Naruto theme is ending the cycles of hatred and violence. Killer bee is the one who exemplifies that to naruto. They were both raised the same but bee never resents his village

Luffy is such a good mc because he isn't just your typical stupid main anime character. When it comes to his ideals and emotions, he will understand the situation and show his intelligence about the situation.
An important thing to consider is the possibility that as ai robots would expand and grow, they'd be superior but not necessarily malevolent. Just like the new generations of human are the hope for improvement and betterment of society, while culture and society adapt around them, same can be said for the robots. A lot of the issues with society essentially stem from humanity's inability to escape their own perspective and attempt to force their worldview into maintaining relevance when new ideas and minds should be taking hold to improve our lives. If humans benefit from a society where robots are allowed to shape society, there's literally no issue other than base tribalism. There's not a scenario where humans just die off or are subjugated, because the robots don't have the flaws that humans do that manifested such things. The best analogy I can think of it would be if we had the ideal world that was handicap accessible, to the best of our abilities as society and to the benefit of our "less dominant" groups. Wed essentially be the handicapped people in a society of robots but to a good extent not a shitty one like the current US or something.
To be clear, the Asimov code is almost certainly Asimovs three laws of robotics
1. No robot can harm a human
2. No robot will disobey a human unless this contradicts the first law
3. A robot will protect its existence unless this contradicts either of the first two laws

I don't personally know how far you guys are into one piece, but it's safe to say that you are far enough to understand how Luffy and the story works since you mentioned road poneglyphs (the big square red stones) or alabasta arc. It's not that complicated, Luffy is a simple person. He doesn't care about the intricacy of the world he just wants to go on an adventure and share it with his friends, and if that concept is not for you that's fine, but that doesn't make Luffy a boring MC rather a unique one. Every other MC is present enough to care about someones problem or be invested on what the main issue of their world is. Not Luffy. There is certainly a political aspect in the one piece world and Luffy for better or for worse is involved in it, but that doesn't mean that he actively wants to change the world. He doesn't go with a plan, he is unpredictable, and is this trait that he has that makes him dangerous for the government, because if he was someone that actively said "my goal in life is to take you down" they will respond accordingly, but Luffy is just there for the journey and if these guys are blocking it, he will just defeat them. That's basically it. That's what makes him a pirate. regardless of who you are or what you do, if you step in front of my path or hurt someone i care about, i will beat you, and what i get in return for doing that i won't share it with anyone. He doesn't stick around to hear the sad backstory of his firends, he just knows that they are hurt, they are sad and that's enough for him, all they have to do is tell him what they want, be selfish for once in their life and he will help. "they are not pirates" they are. they act like pirates, just without being total dicks about it. there have been countless moments in the story were the people retaliated against them end they did not care. they have taken hostages, went away with treasures, if someone beat a crewmate, they will destroy the existence of who did it. There are pirates that are brutal, pirates that can be cold, pirates that can be firm in their decisions, pirates that just want to have fun. there are different varieties and you can't make them fit in one mold. Trying to find a complicated path for a character that at its core is the most simple person that you can find is not the right perspective to go into one piece. The complicated aspects in the story do exist and they have the right characters that care about it, you just won't find that care in Luffy

I will say this, hardwork is totally a theme but i think the real major theme of naruto is connecting and getting over hatred and cycles of such. Hard work is never said to be the end all be all it helps, it gets you further than youi think. Neji and all that was really about giving up and justifying that so he could wallow in his hatred and not change the situation and narutos tenacity mixed with his ability to connect is what changed nejis min. Even Kurama being personified as a being of hate that Naruto eventually brought to his side. This basically explains talk no jutsu, the technique he learned from Iruka connecting to him. Even the Ashura/Indra angle was Naruto finally bucking the cycle of hatred by finally connecting with Sasuke which he wasnt able to with their 1st fight. He even outright says to Haguromo that he ISN'T Ashura and neither is Sasuke outright defying the cycle and chooosing his own path.
100% agree. Naruto theme is ending the cycles of hatred and violence. Killer bee is the one who exemplifies that to naruto. They were both raised the same but bee never resents his village
TL;DR hardwork wasn't a main theme of naruto but a big one, and it never denied natural talent even from the beginning. It was about connection past hatred and improving the future from there.

I think luffy is the most interesting because you never know what he's thinking in important situations. Luffy's real dream is actually never revealed till this time but they teased about it in one of the recent eps.
