Jak and Daxter vs Jak 2 | Review The PS2

- It's time to see which classic PS2 game is better! GTA 3 was a very important game that changed the market's preferences when it comes to mature, gritty games. Its success sent a shockwave through the industry that is responsible for a number of great franchises, but I think the best way to show the effect it had is to look at the differences between Jak and Daxter and its sequel, Jak 2. They're similar in a lot of ways but in regards to the action and tone they're totally different. So which is better, and why? We explore that in this review.

I loved jak and daxter as a kid, Jak 2 just makes me depressed. Wish they made a sequal more in the tone of the original.
RecycledBag agreed. I liked it when I was a kid since it was edgy, but in retrospect they should have kept the original setting.
I think the opposite. A more serious tone within a platform is quite cool.

I prefer the first Game personally. The sequel, although still fun, is just harder, and I don't like the new style graphics as much as the cartoony charm that the first Game possessed.
I loved, loved, LOVED Jak & Daxter. It remains the best non-Mario platformer I've ever played. Jak II was so dour and dismal that I quit playing it after 2 hours or so. Much as I love GTAIII, that mood doesn't need to be in every game. I love pepperoni pizza, but that's not the flavor I want in my birthday cake, y'know?
That's an understandable position. I for one started with Jak 2 and 3 and then played 1 and it wasn't until much later I fully appreciated it.
ErbBetaPatched same I like all 3 but I gravitate to jak 2 and 3 because I’m more familiar with those games and growing up I’d played gta 3, vice city and San Andreas.

My first game of the saga was Jak 3, and because i loved it so much i jumped back to jak 2, and i ADORED it!! While it lack certain things that were my fav in Jak3, Jak2 had an amazing story!!! Up to this date i havent played Jak and Daxter and im waiting on it for when i recieve my copy of the CE for the ps4 :)
unpopular opinion: Jak 2 is the best in the trilogy, as it has the best character development and intriguing storyline/plot. Best combat system, as Jak3 was too easy with all the gun upgrades and Jak1 was too restrictive.
@KaneLofton most comments I've seen online, suggest that jak1 was the best in the series, and jak3 had the best versatility. But i know I had a lot more fun playing jak2, than the other games.
@KaneLofton For me 2 is the worst though.
Naughty Dog wanted to make there own Mario 64 when they where making Jak and Daxter. I want Naughty Dog to make a new Jak and Daxter, they can make it like Metroidvania with the platforming.
Jak 2 is GTA meets Ratchet and Clank.
I just sold every Jak I owned except the original
so basically jak 2 fixed that garbage of 1 since they cooped with insomniac for jak 2 and ratchet and clank. no wonder jak and daxter was left in obscurity as a bad franchise meanwhile ratchet and clank got actual love.
Jak 1 is just boring
I feel like Jak 2 was more character driven for Jak. Dexter was still his horny fun loving self, as we're most of the other characters. Jak was just an athletic good hearted mute in the 1st game and Jak 2 opened his story up in 2 and finished his story in 3 narrative wise

If it took like a 1 year or so for jak 2 to be made and gtx 3 did come out until 2 months before jax 2 came out? How could it copy gta 3 then how could they change their game's story, theme, game mechanics( guns and cars) near the last legs of development. Clearly they were going to make Jax 2 that way weather gtx was going to big or not.
Gta 3 came out two months before Jak and Daxter. October 2001 for Gta 3, December 2001 for Jak 1

Yeah, I preferred the first game over the sequels. They made it too dark and edgy, and Jak should never have been able to talk. It was a funny running gag that he was mute.
What I am amazed about to this day is so many people wanted jak 2 to just be more of jak and daxter with no changes and that's it. These Games were the military shooters and coverbase shooters of 1990s and early 2000s they were so many of them,we needed some but that all of them. My main question is why did Banjo-Tooie do not so well when it was just more banjo kazooie, why do people not like super mario sunshine as much as 64, Why because it was just more of what of the first game was with no effort to add or change anything. Why did we feel we needed jak 2 to be another collectathon when we just had 9 years of the market filled with them. jak and daxter was At the peak of what the genre could be, 18 years later still 3D collection games still haven't really gotten better and even the mario games only stay as good on that peak. Also around the same time we had so many other 3D platformers 2000-2008 around tak, ty,sly cooper,Kao the Kangaroo, vic,blinks, The list goes on just goggle ps2 or xbox or gamecube platformer. Don't say you want innovation but get upset dares to change things for better or worst.

I used to say Jak and Daxter was better, then Jak II. Then when I played them on the PS3 I preferred Jak II to Jak and Daxter. Now I prefer Jak and Daxter simply because I got stuck on the stupid whack a mole game with Daxter in Jak II
It's actually easy when you figure out the game's layout is the exact same as the PS2 controller, and where you hit is what button is pressed on the controller. The game doesn't tell you that though
