The best part of this episode was after the missed shot as they both sit there looking entirely disgusted and disappointed, Steve goes “hey, look at the way that sun is hitting those mountains.” As if to say “it’s okay, man. How lucky are we just to be here?” I love this guy.
and then to give up a shot on a trophy bull not just because of the 4 brow horn but also because he knew his buddy felt awful about wounding the young bull... steve is a classy guy, wish more people were like him
@@arn8386 mistakes happen. They were disgusted that they may have injured the animal for sure. That animal will not rott though if it was injured. A bear wil get him. If there was no blood, it's probably okay.
You could literally see the disappointment both of their faces. And they were just so down in the dumps, and then Steve says, "Look at he Sun hitting those mountains." Love this guy.
I thought that was when the hunting accident was going to happen. What a hunt guys! Crazy how well those calls worked. He seemed to be trying to judge distance and effort with every stop.
The emotions brant was feeling is hard to put into words. The feeling of possibly injuring an animal creates a pit in you that stays with you a long time. Coming from a hunter who has injured a moose, I’ll never do it again because it makes you rethink everything. Steve handled this so perfectly.
I don’t hunt. I’m not opposed to it, in fact I’d like to at some point. I enjoy cooking and the outdoors so it feels like a great fit. If the guys who work on this show read this, I just want to extend my deepest gratitude for making this show. It feels so much more real than any other outdoor show I’ve watched. I understand we only get to see the highlights (it’s no easy task to distill 10 days into 40 minutes) but there are so many moments where I am in awe of the fact that Steve, Cal, Janis and all the others who have made appearances on this show are active participants in the ecosystem they show off rather than being simple observers. So again, thank you and happy hunting!
They are the real deal. Get out and meet some local hunters and educate yourself. Find some folks that you get along with and who are safety and environmentally minded. That's most of the fun with hunting - who you're hunting with. Cheers!
I hunt, and have been doing so since 1974. Before that I used to suck my dad into taking me with him when I was too young to legally hunt myself. I only deer hunt now, and making a kill is secondary to me, but I do prefer the taste of venison, properly prepared, over store bought meats. Its been at least 10 seasons since I have gotten a deer, but that does not bother me in the least. There is something about being outdoors, and seeing your hunting buddies for that 2 weeks that makes it special. Anti hunters would never understand, and they also don't realize that those of us that hunt, do far more to preserve wildlife, than their misguided nonsense ever will.
I totally agree. Most of the shows on TV are trophy hunters on ranches that produce huge animals. Steve shows what hard work and public land produces, and it is much more satisfying to watch.
Steven is such a great guy and the best buddy ever. Just by saying ''Look at the sun hitting those mountains...'' he meant so much more. He really loves the outdoors, the wild side of life, he really adores the nature even if he's just looking at it. What a guy...
The young mans face was gleaming at the end of the video. You could tell earlier his distraught from knicking the younger bull, now he hit 2 nice shots on a big bull in a beautiful spot. I hope he doesn’t forget either feeling in the future, both keep us genuine.
Best hunting show ever, I have watched every episode and could literally watch this everyday. Its a break from reality for me and really enjoy being on the hunt with you guys. Thank you for clean content for my son and I.
Wow, every episode of this show brings a tear to my eye. I've never had much in terms of family, so there was no one around to teach me how to hunt, and the family I do have refused to take me out because I'm a woman. I would give anything to be in the hills with these men, appreciating all that this world has to offer, and eating the most responsibly sourced meat on the planet. One day I'll be there, one day.
I taught my self how to hunt...deer and then birds with dogs I trained. Read, read, and read some more and you can do it. Deer hunting isn't that hard really.....there is an old Indian saying: "If you sit quietly in the forest long enough, a deer will give itself to you." And it is true. Every time you go out you will learn about hunting and the ways of animals and more so, about yourself. No idea how old you are but don't wait any longer if you are serious. I'm at the point in life where my body is starting to give in to age and it not only scares me but depresses me as well. Best of luck.....we are only here once.
I dont post or care to, but Steve, your passion for the outdoors brought a tear to my eyes when u said, " look at how the sun hits the hills." Cannot tell u how many times I forget to enjoy the little things and appreciate what it means to be outdoors. Thank you
Another hunt behind my computer! I shot that moose with my mouse arrow about a dozen times. I'm becoming a much better keyboard cowboy day by day! Thanks Steve!!
@18:55 I know what you mean. I'm not a hunter but I'm really into fishing and some days when the fishing is extremely tough, I just think about why my nephews and I even took that trip and maybe I should sell all my gear lol. But then out of nowhere my nephews catch a couple 3-4 pound bass and to see their excitement and joy in fighting and holding such a fish brings the passion all back and I realize again the reason why I love fishing so much. Then watching the sunset while we're all out there having fun and enjoying our time with each other just brings it all together and it's the perfect way to end the day.
Strong statement here but, Steve is the greatest to ever do it and Meat Eater is the greatest, most informative and educational hunting/cooking show of all time.
Steve, you are obviously the “star” of this series, but your videographers and writers deserve most of the credit. Please keep up the awesome work. Thank you.
Steve saying it was the absolute worst trip he’d ever been on is a big slap in the face to the other guy lol. Some of the best hunting trips I’ve ever been on, we hadn’t downed any game, but enjoy each other’s company.
Absolutely. Hunt should never be just about what you catch. If that's the only reason you hunt then might as well just go and shop your meat. There's so much more to hunting than that
As a professional moose hunting guide from Newfoundland, Canada. Great job boys. There’s no better feeling than when you have that moose coming on a string, just playing him like a fiddle. Our moose don’t get as big as Alaskan moose, but we sure have a lot. Densest population in North America, my camp has 3 other guides in it, we have 4 hunters a week for 5 weeks each year. 100% success rate in the last 6 years.
Steve and the crew is just spoiling us rotten with these episodes. What an awesome trip to enjoy with a hot cup of morning coffee and some breakfast. I also have to mention something not being recognized enough: your choice of music to back up the show. I wish you'd make an official soundtrack list available on Spotify. It's that absolutely perfect mix of somber, thoughtful mountain blues and cheery blue grass. To me it's half the experience when watching an episode. Great music helps make a great show.
Now that I have started filming some outdoors adventures I have a huge appreciation for this show. It's so hard to hunt and film. You guys have done an awesome job. Congrats!!
What an episode! Having just lost a deer last time I went out, I can so commiserate with Brents and miss and feel his pain wondering what he's done to it. Missing is tough to get over so to hit the bug buck after that takes balls.
No matter where they go, the country is beautiful and who wouldn’t mind spending a few head clearing days in some of these remote spots !!! Look at the Sun hitting those mountains as I was typing. See what I mean. Awesome !

I swear one of my favorite parts is when he speaks at the end of the videos and just lays down some heat!!
Right at the lowest depths of disappointment, “Look at that sun hitting those mountains.” Sums up the beauty of hunting, success or no success.
"look at those mountains" so much conveyed, so little said
I just said that to my wife. “Couldn’t have said anything better at that moment.”
I once had a chance to go to Alaska in 1986 after I got out of the Army, as life goes, I never made it there. You guys are living my dream.
