Just did this today on my 04 accord thanks to your video. I ordered the same ignition unit you linked and it fit. Went and got a chisel set from harbor freight and got to it. The left bolt head for me came off simple enough but the right gave me trouble so i just bent the bracket enough to get it out. As far as the key goes i had to file down the inside notch on the cap that is angled to fit the angle cut on the chip. Once that was done the cap seated all the way flush without glue. Starts and runs great now. For anyone reading this , it can be done and you can save yourself a lot of money if you dont mind having an extra key along with the fob key.
Did everything you said for my mom's 2007 Honda Accord and it worked perfectly. Tripped me out that the key transponder thing worked as well. Saved us allot of money brotha, THANK YOU.
You’re very welcome….it’s why I do these videos.
Thanks a lot...,I'm a mechanic and when I do ignition switches,I hate having to tell my customers that they have to call a locksmith after, this will save them money and make me more because now I can do an complete job..... Your a smart and helpful man... thanks
Absolutely brother anytime I can help just hit me with a message. It’s why I do these videos. To help people
@@Gasdieselgarage i have a 99 accord just replaced the ignition tumbler with new harness and keys, only thing is can't program keys car starts with the new keys but have to disconnect the battery for ignition to fully release keys.. any suggestions sir
I did this with a used ignition from a junk yard. It didn't work initially. I had to strip all of the electronics off the donor ignition, and replace them with the original, only using the mechanical tumbler/cylinder from the donor and the donor key. I then had to swap the chips from the original key to the donor key to get it to work, but it works fine now. Thanks for the video!
Very, very, good teaching, you've saved me a bunch of bucks, well explained, made it simple,,thanks again.
I have to thank you my friend this totally worked on my 05 accord. I lost the key blade but still had the fob with the transponder! I live in the mountains & the closest locksmith was over a 100 miles away & quoted me $870 the cheapest was $650, I followed your instructions & your link for a total cost of $65 & 3 days later had my car up & running!!! You saved me a lot of $$$!!! Just needed you to know I'm beyond grateful & that I appreciate your videos brother!!!
Awesome my friend I’m glad it helped you
i also have an 05 Accord, did you have to take the transponder out of the key fob and if so, where is it located?
@@eyevansee The key Fob is only 2" × 2"! Come on, take a chance-I bet you'll find it my friend!!! :)
@@robmarkham3049 where were you 5days ago!? lol i found it on that day, thanks for the laugh, knowledge and reply!
Did exactly as show and all worked out great!! Only I had my new ignition unit rekeyed with a local lock smith before installing ($80) and avoid having to cut out chips and carrying extra keys. Totally worth it in my opinion
I swapped ecus in my acura to make it compatible for hondata. My autel wouldn’t support the relearn and vin writing process. But given this info I just need to go back to the yard and grab the key cylinder and immobilizer from the donor car to match the new ecu.
So much love and appreciation for you for posting this. God bless you brother!
This is so nice of you to show us these tricks now my wife car drives fine I appreciate you bud
Absolutely my friend…it’s why I do these videos. Too many years I watch my customers get screwed heavily at the dealership.
Ty so much for this video, I’m confident I can tackle this myself
I did exactly what you did and my started. Only issue is programming working key to the 2nd key. I used the autel 508 without success. Long and short, i am happy that i got 1 working key and not stuck in the barrel like before. All for $AUD 80. Thanks heaps mate.
Man thanks for that video it helped me so Michel and got the part replaced. That chip thing does work.
Man that was smart thinking, excellent job
I am putting the change of switch into practice here in Mexico City 🎉🤩😍💯💯👍
I assumed it was possible and you just proved me right.
Thank you so much. You did help me. I am grateful to you. I hope you and your family have a happy life. Thank you so much Bro!!!
omg, i can't BELIEVE i actually got the old assembly off using a hammer and chisel. things like this NEVER go well for me, but thanks to you sir!!!!!! woot!!!
Thanks brotha just got gifted one of these at work. Needs a few other things but runs mint!
I will be doing this to my Honda real soon. Ty
Damn!! You are the man!!! From all the videos on RUclips, yours is the best!!!🎉🎉
This is the best and most straight to the point video I found on this. My ‘05 accord just had this problem. I’m going to try this now. Thank you brother!👍👍👍
Awe thanks bud I greatly appreciate your comments
My 05 Accord just had this problem too! Did this guide work out for you and what ignition switch did you buy? I'd appreciate any tips you might have
My 05 is doing it now
Finally ,someone that go to the pinta. Thanks man
How dare you have that distraction of a delicious looking giant snickers bar on the floor
Wish I saw this before I put everything together 😭. RUclips should be putting this towards the top of the search list of key reprogramming and ignition switch changes
Thank you for the video, I did exactly the same and have the job done perfectly.
I watched a guy cut the immobilizer out by using a blade along the seem and then later glueing it back together. He made it look easy.
Thanks for your video I did my honda accord 04 the same you did it now it is working thank you again it is very help full I appreciate you
Too cool my friend…congrats…it’s why I do these videos.👍
Dude you just saved me a bunch of money. My only problem was that the tamper proof bolts seized completely and I had to cut the bracket off with a dremmel without cutting into the steering column.
Yep I believe it brother…couldn’t tell you how many times I seen techs at the dealership actually try to cut it off too….yes I worked at a Honda dealership for many years
chisel
@@Gasdieselgarage couldn’t u use tamper proof torx ?
@@davidcollazo2102 yes sir absolutely
Just happened to my 04 Odyssey I’m scared to fool with it. I had no choice but to take it to the shop find out in the morning what he’s going to overcharge me.😂
Awesome video Thanks.

Wow thanks so much for the programming yourself tip it really works 👍🙏😇✝️
Dude you helped me big time ty 🙏
Same process followed for honda CRV, however I swapped over the other 2 black parts aswell (not sure if necessary) all working now just need to mount it back on the steering column, the hardest part was the anti tamper bolts, persevered and just as I was about to give up it came loose, cheers for your help mate
Awesome my friend I’m glad it worked out for you.
What 2 black parts? Mine just broke i have 03 crv and im trying to buy used ignition switch with key in the fb market
Good tutorial and great idea to save money

Tanks great video
thanks for this upload. i guess i really gonna have to go to the dealer because i lost the original key
Yes unfortunately my friend
Excellent video!! Thank you so much. I have no experience working on cars or with tools and I was able to replace the ignition on my 2005 Honda Accord. I ordered the replacement from the link in the description for about 60 bucks!! Thank you again super helpful video man 👍
Absolutely my friend it’s why I do these videos 😃
@@Gasdieselgaragehey man. Great informative video. Kinda got myself in a pickle. I have a 2007 Honda accord that was having the buzzing issue trying to start it so I looked on RUclips and figured it was the ignition switch. I replaced it and now my cranking issue is solved but the car won’t start. Not sure what to do
@@asmrgodzzz7549 do know if the engine is getting fuel?…..easiest way to figure that out is to spray carburetor into the intake and crank the engine ..if it runs for few seconds then you know it’s a fuel delivery issue
@@Gasdieselgarage I just cranked it up with starting fluid and it started and ran for a minute and I shut it off now and tried to restart it and it won’t start again
@@asmrgodzzz7549 you most likely have a bad fuel pump or clogged fuel filter…I’d start with that my friend
Thanks man you save my life I’ll send you greetings from sacramento ca
I use to have family in YUBA city near Sacramento…very cool my friend
and blessings to the whole family a big virtual hug for everyone 💯😍🤩🎉🎉🎉🎉👍👍👍
thank you brother!
You are a genius man!
I love this channel
These are awesome videos thanks for the tips
No problem my friend 💪
Great tip bro 👍🏿
Gonna order my part now, wish me luck!!
Absolutely my friend
Thank you thank you 🙏
I did this on an 08 odyssey and it worked however heres a tip. We had purchased a used ignition off another odyssey which came with its own key. If you are using a used ignition with the key that came with it, it will also have a transponder in that key. When trying to place the keys over each other as in the video, the car would not start. You must first remove the transponder out of the new key you received in order for it to work. The overlapping of the keys worked in this video because the key that was used was new with no existing transponder in it.
I’m having hard time getting security screws out. My Dremel crapped out on me in the middle of cutting a slit. I don’t have the patience to hit it with a screw driver and hammer. My steering wheel locked to so hope it goes to get in way of taking off screw behind steering wheel.
Thx for the tip brother i pay 300 for programming and made a key 3 years ago with a odyssey now have same problem with a acura tsx, also a friend told me if you put the old key stick under the switch works with new one w/o remove transponder but i prefer to do the whole way thx again
Yes your friend is right
Great video will be ordering and trying this. Before I do so I have a dumb question and please pardon if it’s dumb lol..
If I follow all steps but take new part to be rekeyed to lock smith to use my original keys to match doors will that work?
Thank you!
Thank you very much
You are a king and a chad. One question before i try, do regular valet keys have those transponders in them? Also do you need to allign the ignition lock tumblers to match the old one? Are there paper diagrams to do this, which tool wohld work best for this? Thank you
The valet keys do not have a transponders in them….those key’s only unlock the doors and steering wheel…they won’t start the car. Yes if you want the ignition key to match the door locks you will have to key a locksmith to rekey (match the tumblers) to the doors and ignition… I think there’s kits online that sells the ignition and door locks that are keyed the same but I’d have to research that
Great job man my housband he fix he is car thanks for you video thank you thank you thank you
Awesome ty for the kind words
Thank you
I have a 2006 honda odyessy. will this video apply for both switch and keys?
Good job
Ty my friend
Thanks!
Absolutely my friend
Gracias from Guatemala 💸💸💸
You’re very welcome my friend
I did that on a Honda pilot. I need to do that now on my civic but I had forgotten this trick. So glad you reminded me bro lol
Just did this and it worked but then realized that I need to carry 2 keys now. One for the ignition and another(the original key) for the doors. So don't throw away the original keys.
I saw this video and thought there was hope thanks for making the video but in my case the old owner lost the key and they have been unable to find it so without the old key I don't have a chip either 2004 Honda Accord sounds like I'm going to have to bend over for the dealership after all. The car is in fairly decent shape a couple hundred dollars worth of work should get it through inspection plus a set of four tires it appears the most expensive part of this whole car will be the key which will probably still be less than two car payments of a new car.
Well if I can help in any way just message me or email GasdieselGarage@gmail.com
What if you have to replace the immobilizer as well?
Put in new ignition unit with old immobilizer, placed old key next to new key, engine will crank fine but does not start. Is that due to the immobilizer not reading the chip in the old key? Thank you for any advice!
I took my key apart and I didn’t find a black chip but inside the actual key was a little rubber holder and there was a glass little tiny tube in there is that the chip? Coming out of a 2005 civic key? I did switch the transponder over like you did to the new ignition and I held the key up but I still get a flashing green light. Any advice on that one?
What if you lost the keys and forked up the ignition and bought a new ignition cylinder how do i program the keys that came with it
What can I use to take off the non tamper 2 screws that’s on top ??
Will this fit a 2006 Honda Accord Ex? My local Autozone got these going for $280, and the one you got is only 60plus
Is it possible to swap an ignition switch solenoid off a used unit and out it on my current one to avoid all this? My key gets stuck in first position regularly to remove the key. Thanks man
How can you turn the wheel to expose the screws if your wheel locks?
What do you have to do if you totally lost the old key and i bought a new key and ignition switch but dont have the old key to take the transmitter out of so what steps do i take now?
????? BIG GUY how did you turn the wheel to get to that screw without wheel lock activating? i have the same prob with my 03 4door accord my friend
Its raining here to today as i watch this video
Is it possible to reprogram the key using the old immobilizer?
Can the security on the ignition switch bypass by any chance
How’d you get your steering wheel to unlock??
I mean I have a problem. My key fob on my '04 Accord is pretty ate up at the top, but I highly doubt the transponder fell out on it's own from general wear and tear. I think on mine it's located kind of top right in-between 2 buttons, but I can't tell if it's my tumblers that is the problem, the fact that I have to super glue now the physical key to the fob itself and it's just not turning correctly while in the ignition or the highly doubtful transponder itself that is malfunctioning somehow. I have to go to work in the morning. I can't really do anything at 11 pm for the next day. It just won't budge it seems. It is stuck in the zero position when there are 1, 2, and 3 positions. It won't go out of zero now though. I somehow got it to work when I went to work this morning though and when I left work this evening. I wish I knew what it was, I'm a sitting duck with my job on the line. This isn't the type of job with a lot of "mercy" either.
so one of your new key still won't work right?
you replaced old transponder in one but the other needs to be programmed, or am I missing something?
Ps! Since i could not get the bracket off that holds old assembly inplace bcoz of the theft proof bolts i just left it and hooked both wiring harnesses to new one and for temporarily i tied ip new assembly so not harm wiring. I put old immobilizer put on new assembly and old key chip put in new one it started but shut off as soon as it started also like i said earlier in my comment steering wheel stayed locked so what did i do wrong? Its a 2009 honda civic dx thanks Godbless 😇✝️🙏
Hi man i have serious problem my 2006 civic had the same problem did everything same as your video but car won't start just the ac does??
I need Help
What other 2 screws when it comes to getting wiper switch off ignition switch?. Pls show next time
Good 👍🏽
What if your steering wheel is locked? How do I get the bolt out for the turn signal?
Would this be similar for a 98-02 accord
So my issue before I start trying to complete this job is that the steering wheel is locked up so I’m stuck at what do do about that one screw that you have to turn the wheel to get to but I can’t turn my wheel because both the steering wheel and ignition is locked up and to get the steering wheel to unlock you have to put the key in to turn it and I can’t because both are lock so I’m stuck on what to do
Will this work for a 2010 Honda Civic?
I am having trouble with my honda civic 2015 ignition key switch, thanks to your tutorial I know I can do it. Q. Any idea where can I buy it. Thanks for your help.
Is the key not turning freely/ getting stuck?……yes I do know where to buy one ….just trying to narrow down your problem
@@Gasdieselgarage ir does not turn at all.
Would this work for a 03 Civic?
hope this works on 08 civic. my key wont turn at all.
