      You're absolutely right, organic fertilizers are very pricey. Urea does a fantastic job on sweet corn.

      Urea 46 lb is basically organic. Not usda or omri approved but totally safe.

    Im gonna make my final attempt at growing corn next year...worms dogs wind rust and probably the wrong variety will probably kill it but i have researched everything i can find on corn...
    I hear u do nitrogen at least three times..ankle knee and rear high stages...some people on u tube say use 20-20-20..

    • @Hatfield_Country
      @Hatfield_Country  Год назад

      Don't give up! I had a mostly failed crop this past season, mostly my fault. We all have failures, all we can do is learn from our mistakes and try again.
      You are correct about the nitrogen, generally that's a good fertilization schedule. However if your corn leaves are a darker green that means the plant is good on nitrogen.
      I'm not sure what varieties you've tried growing, but I've had the best luck with Incredible and Peaches n Cream varieties.

    I just got back from top dressing 725 feet of silver queen with 15 pounds of 17 17 17 fertilizer.
    The corn is 8 inches tall, and was spread by hand and all around the stalks.
    Maybe it won't burn it up. We will see.

    • @Hatfield_Country

      I made the mistake of getting it too close to the plants one time and on top of the ground. After it rained I think it splashed on the corn and it all died.

    How frequently do we need to do side dressing

    • @Hatfield_Country
      @Hatfield_Country  2 года назад

      I like to first side dress when the corn is 12 inches, then again at 18 inches and maybe once more when the corn tassels.

  • @Hatfield_Country
    @Hatfield_Country  Год назад +1

    If you want to keep your corn rows nice and weed free you really should get you a double wheel hoe from Hoss Tools. Here's a link to a video I did a review on it.

    Why do you cover the nitrogen after putting it in side

    • @Hatfield_Country
      @Hatfield_Country  2 года назад

      I cover it because I don't want it to splash up on the plants after it rains or during watering. Nitrogen will burn the plants, killing them if it touches them.

    How are u watering ur corn?

    • @Hatfield_Country
      @Hatfield_Country  3 года назад

      We usually get enough rain and I don't have to water, but if it hasn't got any rain I use the water hose and water between the rows. My plan next year is the use drip tape fed by a water catchment system. Thanks for stopping by!
