My first ride on the NEW 2022 Trek Marlin 8!!

  • First off, I just want to say that I am as fresh as they come in the mtb community! (In fact this is my first official mtb.) Very fortunate to get my hands on this good lookin' hardtail and thought I'd make a quick video showing it off, as it's still so new that there isn't a lot on the internet about it yet. Trek brings the Marlin 8 in above the 2021 Marlin 7, most likely replacing the X-caliber 7 model. So far it hasn't disappointed, and I can't wait to test this bike's limits (and myself as I learn.)
    Via Trek's website:
    "Marlin 8 is a race-worthy mountain bike that won’t break the bank. The smooth, lightweight RockShox fork, tubeless ready wheels, and wide-range 1x drivetrain make this model the best choice for new riders who want a fast cross country hardtail that will hold its own against our higher-end race bikes."

      Tbh marlin 8 is a waste of money, the xcalibers are better with the front thru axle and stiffer lighter frame

      @mapleleafmtb8399 3 года назад +5

      @@nguyenbinhnguyen5231 I think you should just go for the X-caliber 8. 12 speed drive train, comes tubeless ready, thru axle and it has much better hubs and parts speced for XC. Marlin 8 just isn’t worth it anymore.

    I am NOT a Mountain Biker. I recently owned a Marlin (5) and used it ONLY for city riding and on city trails. After years of road cycling it was an excellent change of pace. Now I’m considering moving up a level to the Marlin (8). What are the major differences between the (5 and 8) and is the (8) worth buying over the (5) for the type of city riding I enjoy!

    What do u think is the sram sx eagle any better than shimano deore ? I mean the sx is their entry level what do u prefer?

    • @equinox6609
      @equinox6609 3 года назад +1

      Better go 1x10 deore rather than 1x12 sx eagle. I was in the same position like you. Also a brand bike is not everything, you can get better specs from other brands but sometimes a good frame make a difference.

    Just picked up a Marlin seven and in the process of putting an electric motor in it should be a pretty much killer bike

      @blakesmith5227 2 года назад

      What motor are you putting in it cause I want to do the same thing!

    • @blainegordon4345
      @blainegordon4345 2 года назад +1

      @@blakesmith5227 I put a bafang bbso2 in with a 48 V 17.5 amp hour battery. It is a 48 tooth front sprocket but in order to put that in you have to have it pretty far off the chain line. The tallest two gears are for climbing only and to be honest I never use them with the power turned on. But if I were riding it with no electric I would probably use first and second gear for going up to the hills. I really am enjoying it it appears like I would get about 70 miles to a full charge but I normally put about 50 on it and have 30% left on battery so I recharge at that point. I would suggest a 44 tooth sprocket on it would bring the sprocket closer to the inside and help chain line. You would lose a little bit of speed but I can get mine to 34 miles an hour and it is limited to 21a but it could handle up to 25 A. I set the limit a little bit lower with a programming cable. I lose a bit of power but it’s great peace of mind that you’re not over taxing the motor at all. And I still have plenty of speed and plenty of power

      I would also suggest changing the shifter to one that has an indicator on it. I found out to be very useful with a ebike’s
