From Top Gear to Grand Tour Andy Wilman has been the secret evil genius behind the shows, it also helped having 3 guys who's chemistry was natural. Thanks for the memories
Oh man what an amazing interview and thank you Jane for being such a key person for the BBC at that point in 2002 and Andy for doing a fantastic job as a producer.
The financial part of the farm show works because we aren’t busy being worried about Jeremy. He has enough money to be okay. Most other farming shows turn it into an emotional drama life or death scenario
One of the standout lines for me on The Farm, was Charlie telling Jeremy how much they had made that first year - 44 quid or whatever it was. Jeremys’ honesty in saying, well I can manage ok, cos I can just go film another series of Millionaire, but what do all the regular farmers do now?
Seen the clip of Clarksons "private" screening of the last episode and seen his tears... Good thing, I have all the shows on HDD... bad thing, there won´t be new adventures of the three wise men. Many thanks to "The producer", for all the work and watching all the details over the decades.
Great insight into the minds of the big wigs , Wilman just gets it, Clarkson is a national treasure and the unity with Hammond and May was band of brothers stuff
One can easily listen to W. Chump for hours on end. Very calming voice and much clever things to say. There is another one in a similar setting and then of course the brilliant Stig Ben Collins Podcast with Mr. Wilman excellently reminiscing about TG and GT for several hours with Herr Schtig asking ze questions. Delightful man!
'Unplugged' and 'keep the dynamite at home' were when TG/GT specials were at their best - Botswana, Bolivia, Patagonia, Seamen, Mongolia, One For The Road.
The fact that Lionel Richie was like "look, I grew up with severe racism so I'm not mad at you trying to get your shotty show off the ground" is pinnacle!
Sort of, Jane commissioned as in she decided that Top Gear could be developed, funded, filmed and broadcast, but after it was developed she only had a small say in its contents.
It's wild to see that after all those years - Andy Wilman pretty much can set-up Jeremy without him realizing. Which makes for a good, genuine scene and good laugh. That is masterful craft!
Great insight into how and what Top Gear became. I´m glad they finished on high note and on their own terms. Few personal observation - i don´t think TG would last this long on BBC without the infamous fracas that led to Jeremy´s dismissal. Another thing is - to reinvent Top Gear/The Grand Tour, it will have to go back where it begun. Nowadays internet is full of car channels, with couple of blokes buying cheap cars and doing challenges. It´s hardly innovative, ground breaking. I would go back to testing cars, interesting cars - maybe even contemporary test of cars from 20-30 years ago.
People think Andy Willman pulls all the strings, really it's all, well 90%, just Jeremy Clarkson who is the final arbiter of what goes in and what doesn't . Both of them just get what makes a good scene and what will get a laugh The hierarchy is Clarkson Willman, May & Hammond all equal withva good deal of input*if Jeremy agrees* Then underneath those, it's any other writers and producers
She’s Jane Root, she was the BBC2 controller, who commissioned re-boot of Top Gear in 2002. So basically this channel disrespected her by not crediting her in this video.
Now the Grand Tour has ended, they are all happy to admit a lot on The Grand Tour and Top Gear was planned. This used to be a question they would deflect and not properly answer. Now they don't give a sh*t.
They've said for a long time it's about half and half, give or take. They even made fun of this in their Romania trip where it was intended to be 'unscripted'.
Just go get everyone’s idea and thoughts on this. Before Hammond joined Top Gear he was on a Science Show called Brainiac. In Brainiac when the challenges got handed out it was always someone in a white lap coat handing out an envelope. Does anyone else think Richard took that ideas and crossed it over to Top Gear?
That dog in your profile picture left your house because of you being a boring conservative in a trashy council house. Shut up and purge your jealousy.

Mr Wilman! The legendary mastermind himself. Great interesting and insightful talk, thank you! 13th of September will be historical.
Andy talks a lot about the camaraderie between those three. But I think he should say it was more about the camaraderie between our four.
Wonderful to watch.

But it still manages to educate people on just how utterly miserable it can be. The pig episode had me in tears. It's a fantastic series.

Fantastic interview and great insight from both of them… 👏

Thanks Jane and Andy and the engaged audience.
Enjoyed this 👍

This was a very interesting interview. Thanks for sharing
Brilliant conversation.
Mr Wilman is a genius.
Brilliant . Thank you.

Are you kidding me? I didn't know Andy produced Clarkson's Farm as well. Dude's an absolute legend
Thanks,enjoyed that.
Simply brilliant, sadly the end of an era, and on that bombshell, Goodnight.
At some point you can't keep saying you got lucky. Andy should admit that he's simply genius.
Message from Mr. Wilman...
A decent interview, thank you.

Ah, finally - the face behind the texts!
Very interesting.
Wasn’t Jane their boss when they started? She let them become the show that it was
Sort of, Jane commissioned as in she decided that Top Gear could be developed, funded, filmed and broadcast, but after it was developed she only had a small say in its contents.
Strange but this is covered in detail in this very video

Like Clarkson he’s been grazing (a lot) in the good paddock !
Fourth Beatle 😂
Wait Andy is someone who isn't a robot who sends emails
I don't think it was a risk, Jezza fucking up things is always gold.
Come on guys its the Clarkson effect
8:23 confirmation Clarkson does, indeed, drive a Jaaaaag.

What's the name of the interviewer?
Jane Root
That is James May without disguise.
@@markwilson8299 Thanks!

Lol
Who is the interviewer? Any reason you didn't credit her at all?
She’s Jane Root, she was the BBC2 controller, who commissioned re-boot of Top Gear in 2002.

You would have to be as thick as pig shit to think it wasn't scripted. It's TV for God's sake!!

nope. he was on men and motors. he got brainiac gig after top gear
who knew Wilman had such a potty mouth, when just telling such a simple story, the swearing didn't even add to the story
