I played this about 18 months ago, nice to see you playing it. When you've finished, it's worth playing the Curator's cut. It's free and gives you a different perspective on the events. eg. It shows you what caused the explosion on the boat and you play as the other soldier at the beginning. There are eight intended games altogether. The next one will be released later this year and will be the final one in season 1.
@13:53 I love the little touches that subtly set up the horror. Sometimes you notice them right away, but other times you remember them in hindsight and the dots connect in your mind. For example, the door was padlocked on the inside. So, was the doctor shoved in the locker or did he hide in the locker and die? Suspenseful camera angles included, you can tell that Supermassive are incredibly literate in what makes a good horror story. :)
Hah, when I was a kid we used to go snorkeling all the time off our boat over the reef, around the islands but also quite out to sea. I was fearless as a kid. It never bothered me to be skin diving over the reef and big drop offs etc. and the nearest land was so far away. But ... TRY NOW to get my adult self to do something like that, and I will very politely say "F no! I'll stay on the boat. Give me a book. I'll see you when you're back aboard!" Lol
Finally! I've been looking forward to seeing you play these games since I saw your Until Dawn playthrough. A lot of people think this is the weakest entry of the Dark Pictures Anthology, but I like it. You seem to be enjoying it as well, so you'll definitely like the others. I can't wait to see your reaction to the stories and all the scares.
@@TheMirandalorian If you haven't heard yet, the next game in the series is called The Devil in Me and should be out sometime this year. I believe you'll see the trailer for it at the end of House of Ashes. It looks like it could be quite good. If you want some more horror game suggestions here are a few you might want to look at if you haven't played them yet: - The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is quite story heavy but mechanics light, so it's somewhat like Until Dawn and the Dark Pictures series. - Amnesia: The Dark Descent is an older game but holds up really well with a nice creepy story. - Alan Wake is sometimes described as "Stephen King: The Game" because it makes use of so many of his tropes and themes. It's more action than horror, but it definitely fits into the genre. There's a long awaited sequel that was just announced not long ago which should be out in 2023. - Alien Isolation has fantastic atmosphere and tension. The story isn't very deep, but it is good and there is a lot of it. If you're a fan of the Aliens movie franchise it's well worth playing. Narratively, it would fit in between the films Alien and Aliens. - Stories Untold is a nice little indie game made up of four short games that take maybe an hour or so each to complete. They're all very good and there's a nice little twist to the whole narrative. - Blair Witch has a decent enough story and can be quite creepy at times but it can drag a bit in places. It's worth playing, but you should probably play any of the others first unless this one appeals to you.
1:00:41 - That's the most annoying thing about the 'Dark Pictures Anthology' games. Some "areas" are actually timed, and when the invisible timer runs out, the game will jump to the next story-beat, no matter what you're doing at that moment (like reading a note). And yes, the spelling errors in Fliss' boat captain certificate are intentional, since it's a fake one.
20:57. They are soldiers. They are used to seeing a lot of death. Probably why they aren’t shitting their pants. Also I just randomly looked up the dark anthropology series lets play and stumbled across you so Just Subbed!! 🎉 🥳
@@TheMirandalorian there is 2 way of playing this with your friends, 1 playing it online with one of your friend, then you guys have different path and character, playing it at the same time. 2. Playing it with 5 or 2 or 3 people in the same room, one controller and take turns playing.
As far as I know, Man of Medan refers to Ourang Medan, a supposed ship that had all its crew die under mysterious circumstances during WWII. There's a lot of urban legends surrounding this ghost ship, but it sunk in an fiery explosion to the depths of the ocean.
Nam: Man of Medan isn't TOO bad IMO once you know what is going on (no spoilers i promise) in terms of genuine difficulty like "how hard is it to fu%$ up and lose a character" Man of Medan isn't so bad. i think a lot of people just jump to the wrong conclusion of what it's about and when you kind of jump on the wrong horse in Dark Picture games you fu%4 yourself over...it's not the games fault it's your fault. Man of Medan n Little Hope are pretty decent but House of Ashes was just really complicated. I still feel Until Dawn was better than all of them though because it was simple yet terrifying the more complex you make a scary game the more people tend to dislike it.
Jason below listed some horror games you could play. I’d like to add that you could also play the Silent Hill series or part of it. • Silent Hill 1 has a great plot but the graphics and controls are very janky, so it wouldn’t hurt my feelings if you skipped that one. • Silent Hill 2 is generally considered the best of the series. Also great plot, graphics are a little better, and they solved a lot of the issues with the controls. • Silent Hill 3 is my personal favourite. Things just keep getting better. I also love the theme song that plays when loading into the main menu. And then things went downhill from there. So in my opinion, probably just play 2 and 3.
Was about to recommend visage until I heard you mention it 😀 Honestly it's the most terrifying game I've ever played. I won't play it without a friend and I love horror games and movies. It's just that freaky. But if you did do it, you might need to cheat a bit to see where things are as the game doesn't really give you much to go with. It's a lot of figuring it out yourself and it isn't always clear especially if you don't play it recently.
I played it when it was early access and we only had chapter 1... scared me so bad, I refused to play it when it release lmao! I would love to try to finish it though if I'm not too scared 😂
All of these games are brilliant a bit like the walking dead 💀 The choices you make in the game is up to you.Well done Maranda for picking another winner .An excellent game from a amazing player can’t wait to see you play this thank you Maranda hope you and Toby are well and I see you soon bye bye 👋
I know I'm very late to comment this but I have a theory that the curator is actually death himself or he's the one who makes sure you're ready for the afterlife
I can agree with you on the keep calm being slightly better than the don't move because I also sucked at that. I played with my controller on the floor! 😂 Wish if the remaster Until Dawn the change that mechanic so I can get it on xbox lol.
there is actually a trick to the keep your hands still thing in until dawn (just in case u play it again in your spare time)...wins every time...just put the controller down on a flat surface...they changed it to keep calm for Dark Pictures because people were cheating XD
@@TheMirandalorian well in all honesty i don't see the harm in it...that game is about story...it's not cheating really. I don't get why they called it cheating...cheating is when you enter a code that breaks the game. these games are about the story right...and if you make these game almost impossible to complete then what is the point of it being about the story. Until Dawn is very easy to get through...so i like that. But the Dark Pictures...they are much harder...i mean imagine if you had shaky hands...or slow reflexes...Dark Pictures would be literally unbeatable because of the stay calm function...but they didn't take this into account. Someone even raised this in a review and said it should be reported to the company but they have ignored all requests to change it.
The gameplay part of these QTE-athons. So finding an auto pass to like 1/4 is considered cheating. Besides the whole point of the feature was if you get scared enough you'd move
so a few things you should know about the Dark Pictures Anthology: they are all interconnected...even though they are separate stories...kind of like Stephen King's books. They are all set o=in the same Universe you know. Until Dawn was made by the same people as Dark Pictures but that wasn't set in the same universe. A lot of people want an Until Dawn 2 but it seems unlikely...they are far too focused on this Dark Pictures Anthology thing now. These stories are going to be told in sort of seasons...we getting to the end of season one. This is made up of four stories: Man of Medan Little Hope House of Ashes The Devil in Me (not out yet)
I'm way behind on your channel but I can't wait til you play house of ashes, it's the best out of the anthology games imo. Nothing really compares to until dawn though.
The keep still mechanic in Until Dawn was better in my opinion. It was much more tense, more challenging, and less distracting. I think they got rid of it because of people cheesing it and some people complaining it was too hard. It is supposed to be hard.

The Ooh death intro is just like until dawn one just very rock and guy vocal this time. So epic!
