Science fiction/Action adventure/Space. Created by Gene Roddenberry. Starring William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley (Kirk, Spock and Dr. McCoy) - Norway Productions and Desilu Productions produced the series from September 1966 to December 1967. Paramount Television produced the show from January 1968 to June 1969. Star Trek aired on NBC from September 8, 1966, to June 3, 1969. It was first broadcast on September 6, 1966, on Canada's CTV network. Star Trek's Nielsen ratings while on NBC were low, and the network cancelled it after three seasons and 79 episodes. Several years later, the series became a hit in broadcast syndication, remaining so throughout the 1970s, achieving cult classic status and a developing influence on popular culture. Star Trek eventually spawned a franchise, consisting of eight television series, 13 feature films, and numerous books, games, and toys, and is now widely considered one of the most popular and influential television series of all time.

The crew member sitting next to Spock was my Health & Safety teacher, Mr. Barrier, at Glendale High School, in 1968; in Glendale, California.
He was an excellent and kindhearted teacher who really cared about his students. The girls in the class swooned over his good looks. The boys liked him because he was a man's man.
Mr. Barrier would often stay after hours to help students with their homework assignments.
Years after high school, I learned he gave up acting to become a legal officer in the US Coast Guard; achieving the rank of lieutenant commander.
A few weeks ago, I was saddened to read that Michael Barrier passed away, on February 26, 2024, at the age of 87.
He was truly one of the good guys.

The more you watch these episodes, the more you appreciate how excellent they all were at acting. They developed these characters, rounded them out and made them real.
Shatner made Kirk both common, but complex. You'd think you could find this kind of space boyscout easily, until you go looking.
It's easy to underestimate what Shatner, Nemoy, Kelly and the others did.
They made the complex seem easy and even commonplace.
