Great video! We brought two dogs over to Hawaiʻi with us, 5 years ago, and it is a lot of steps to go through. I wish there was a video like this when we moved. 😊 Aliʻi Veterinary Hospital now does airport pet release too.
Thank you for adding them!! We brought a cat in 2005 and he ran away a few months later..I don't think he knew the hoops we went through, that darn cat!
Thanks for the info-I’ve been watching your videos non-stop. I just ordered your books now! My wife and I are trying to figure out how to make the move with the family (including our dogs), but as a specialist physician (anesthesia) I’m afraid it may not be possible to find a career. Would love to see some info on schools as well! Thanks again!
We just flew Alaska with our 2 cats (had to go through HNL.. no direct flight to KOA from West coast at this time). Alaska allowed 5 small pets in cabin in coach and 1 pet in 1st class. They also had pets not in cabin... but not sure how many. We made sure to check the flight before booking to make sure there was space. We must have had a full animal flight, as there were several on board!
Hi Zoe, I plan to bring my dog to the Big Island but also no direct flights to KOA from the Philippines. Did you do the inspection and direct release at Honolulu? If so, are there any other steps or paperwork needed to bring your pets to the Big Island?
@@ItsJanHi Jan, no, once we did the direct release in HNL, no additional paperwork needed for flying to the Big Island. (I kept checking, as I though there had to be) but do make sure things have not changed. Be aware that waiting for your animal can take a long time (depending on how many animals they need to process) and there is a lot of concrete, so quite hot.
@@zoeb6778 Wow, thank you so much for replying and clarifying! I must have read Checklist 1 and 2 five times because I wasn't sure which to follow. I plan to have a 5-6 hour layover in Honolulu because we don't know how many pets are going to be processed. We're definitely going to get our Pomeranian groomed so he doesn't feel as hot during the Hawaiian summer. Mahalo!
@@ItsJanHi I think that's roughly how much time we had for layover..we then maybe had 45 mins to an hour at the gate.. can't remember exactly. But I thought it was better than rushing.
Thank you for keeping our dreams alive! I’m curious about the rabies vaccines if your animals are already up to date vaccines. I would think they would just need the blood test only. Could you speak to how long the quarantine is on island (for pets, not humans)?
Aloha @Cher - You have to be able to prove your pet has their immunizations up to date right up to when you arrive. Many vets can help make sure you have everything you need from THEIR end and you can also check the county website, which I put a link to. As long as you have your shots, and a vet meets you at the airport to clear you, there is no quarantine time for pets on island.
I don't believe so, but its about $2000 per animal and in many cases, the airlines have a limit on how many animals can be on the airline..so you may have to fly separately to get your pets here. Also, you will have to buy a home as you most likely not going to find a rental that will allow that many pets.
Hi I'm moving to Hawaii in 2 months, I have a dog, her name is china I think my sister's going to put her as a terror idk if I spelt that right but I need some advice because my sister said she probably can't go she's a pit bull but she doesn't like other dogs in a personal space. I really need advice and I don't wanna leave her in NC because she's my best friend.
Charity-this blog post says Pit Bull Terriers are not allowed on some airlines. www.bringfido.com/travel/airline_policies/hawaiian_airlines/ You need to find an airline that will allow that breed of dog. I'm sorry!
Thanks for the info. I just bought 3 acres there, and own a dog, so it looks like I need to get started with things now lol.
Yay! This is what I was looking for!! Thanks!
Thank you so much! Huge help!!!

Unfortunately, no airline seems to fly reptiles. I have 2 tortoises (both 1 foot long). I wonder if I can take them on a boat...
Where in Tahoe did you live? I'm in Incline Village. We are thinking about moving to Kona. Thx

@@365Hawaii Thanks so much! That is super clear and helpful. Hopefully we will be North Kohala bound in 2021

If my cat had 2 rabies shots in 2017 do you think they would just need a booster now or the two dose series again?
You never mentioned how much it cost to get your dog there
It's the sums of a bunch of fees; it's in the hundreds.
@@ADAMSIXTIES @AdamEverett HUNDREDS is right! $250 just to have the vet meet you at the airport. $400 to get a titer test..it goes on.
