They completely refuse to allow you to have the joy-cons connected in TV mode. On the home menu, it just makes this "you can't do that" click and when you connect them it doesn't make the snap sound, and it puts the controller sync screen up if you're in a game
Dude, you're literally one of the most helpful RUclipsrs ever, any time I've had a question about my Switch I just check your channel and you almost always a video with a very easy to understand answer. Keep up the great work.
I have to buy new joycons AND I HAVE TO REPLACE 2 JOYCON SETS handheld joycons are a waste of money and my original joycons are loose and will not charge
Nice video! I’m using the tape method for 4-5 months now.. my joycons were loose. They didn’t go off easally, but they were a bit wobbly. Tape works really well.
How long did it take for them to send it back? I’m thinking about sending in my switch for repair but I want it to be back by the launch of Super Mario Odyssey.
Thank you so much dude! I just got my switch a few weeks ago and this issue happened just this morning. I was scrambling to find a solution but all of them involved taking it apart. I didn’t want to risk that so I kept on looking. You tape idea was genius! It worked 4 me thank you so much dude

Thank you very much! The super glue one worked perfectly, I did multiple layers, than placed it in it place and slide it a few times, gave it the form and it felt like new, Love you
Well hopefully someone makes a metal version of that part because I don't want to replace my joycons or have some weird way to fix it but thanks for the tips (also your voice is pleasing)
MoogleAntwon my dad fricking broke it because he beat me in a game and he pushed me into the dock hdmi cable and it dropped and he’s fricking cussing at me for what he did
The part on the joy-con is plastic so that it won't wear away at the console. Things like this are designed to fail in this way because its better to repair or replace the cheaper part. USB cables are also designed in this way because it's easier to replace the cable than the port on the device
Loki Shooter well you see the only reason why there's a lot of people that are having problems with their Nintendo switch is because they buy it on a day it's released that's why it smart to probably wait for a few months
I bought the Switch ASAP (meaning in a few months), and I treated it with care, but I play ARMS and Super Mario Odyssey a lot, so I use the straps a lot, which wear down the locking mechanism. The design of the Joy-Con has not changed since the Switch was released.
mine were just slightly loose. more so on the left one. i used the tape method and it worked PERFECTLY! just a single tiny square of black electric tape tightened them up nice & snug. THANK YOU!!! thumbs up & subscribed.
My joy cons had this issue. I got new ones for my birthday, but I still wanted to find out if there was a way to fix my old pair. Lowe and behold, the tape method detailed in this video worked like magic! (I used the normal clear tape instead of fancy reinforced and electrical tape but it still worked). You just earned a sub and a like.
I realize it "saves money for Nintendo" but did they really not think this through as a bigger problem? Of course Nintendo is going to sell lots of units to adults but I'm sure there's an extremely giant mass of these going to kids.. why not use metal so the constant use wouldn't do this? I'm hoping they end up changing the JoyCons in the future to use metal instead. I take good care of mine but generally kids are going to be kids.
Metal is more expensive to use during manufacture in contrast to plastic. Nintendo rather use cheaper materials than premium material and sell the console at a loss.
I dont knoe what you all guys are doing. I have no problems at all! I even took it to freaking italy and it works perfectly and doesnt lag at all. HOW? Just how???
I took a little piece of a Needle, heat it up and push it through the plastic cut it and Glue it, and it works as a wall for the part the plastic that cheap in the joycoms, only problem you have to open the joycoms and take them apart I will maybe upload a video for it
What was the case called it has also been 2 years sence you’ve ordered it so if you could can you tell me any problems that really bugged you when you had that case?
It worked a little better with the case it was more sturdier And I did what the video told me to It's to put tape on my Is joycon rail So that worked a little I forget what the case was called though But now I have an OLED and I'm trying to be more careful with it
Battleofawesome don't use metal. That will also damage the console. Things like this are designed so the easy to replace part will break before the hard to replace part, and using metal can wear away at the metal rail on the console. Also, I don't think metal can be 3D printed, it has to be molded or machined
Have you been to a new York city. the doctors and Dave, but the only one that I can do to get the most important to you, but the only one that I can do to get the most important to you, but the only one that I can do to get the most important to you,
This comes from the joy con straps. I think since they fit on so tight and feel like they're gonna break the joy con when you take them off, which is kind of a sign why the joy cons stop fitting on tight. They get a chip in the locking mechanic ( it breaks part of it off), that's why. So just stop putting on the joy con straps
@Techtronis hah! I had that same thought when I bought my OLED yet here I am. I’ve never once even used the straps. I baby my Switch too and yet hardly a year after purchase, I have very loose joycons somehow. The only thing I can figure is that maybe it’s bc I use my Switch in handheld mode 99% of time. I hope you have better luck than me with your OLED.
@Techtronis I do the same however I think from the joycons slipping off when gripping too hard during intense gaming sessions, (lol) they’ve just loosened over time. Really should be able to handle that considering it’s a gaming console intended for kids primarily.
I’m SOO excited! My mom said if I gave her some of my savings ($200) than she will give me one for Christmas, so I gave her the money. Now I just need to save up for a game or two.

Exactly. They're designed to fail in a manner that is easier to repair. It's easier to repair or replace the joy-con than the console. USB cables are the same, it's easier to replace a cable than to open a phone and replace the connector
well... would only suck if you can't use tabletop mode. i use it either in handheld mode while commuting or as tabletop with the pro controller, using handheld mode works great for odyssey if you don't have to use the few special moves (that i don't really use)
A combination of the tape + glue methods with the addition of you being very careful about applying / removing the Joycons seems like it would be pretty stable and would last a while. I'd go that route if I couldn't afford new Joycons as I also lack access to a 3D printer. I'm very careful about these sorts of things though, unless a product is naturally prone to wear that you can't avoid I really don't have these issues.
I personally would recommend putting tape on the Joy-Con, rather than the Switch, so that if you get new Joy-Con at some point in the future, it slides off easily when the button is pressed. You can probably find some [insert Joy-Con color here] tape so that it doesn't stand out, or cut black tape to the same width as the Joy-Con rail so that it looks natural.
The tape seems to have fixed my problem, at least for now. I was getting constant disconnect issues when playing games that didn't require a lot of fast inputs, like JRPGs and strategy games, so I wasn't moving the controllers a whole lot. But after putting tome electrical tape, voila! I managed to play 5 Smash matches in a row and no connection issues whatsoever. The right Joy-con (the one with the issues) can still be removed without pressing the buttons and it still disconects if I move it up a bit, but it's tight enough that even more intense play sessions don't provide enough force to do so. What I'm worried is that the tape is getting a bit wrinkled due to how tight it is, so I might need to replace it from time to time. Not a huge issue to replace it, but I don't want to damage my console or controllers because of this. Thanks for the tip anyways!
If your warranty has expired, I think the best thing to do is to buy a metal replacement for the lock buckle pieces (which are quite cheap) or perhaps 3D print one out of a stronger material. With that said, an quick, easy and cheap solution that I thought of while watching the video that could potentially work is adding a velcro strand to either the actual Switch unit or the Joy Cons (I'd say, probably in the middle of each piece). While adding the velcro strand on both parts of the unit would definitely make a solid connection, I doubt the Joy Cons would slide very smoothly and it could be more on a hassle than anything else, in the end (could still work, though). However, by putting one half of a velcro stand (either the "hairy side" or the "hook side") on the Joy Cons or the Screen unit, it could reduce the friction considerably, being somewhat thick and offering a rugged surface. It would probably be a snugger fit, too. The concept is very similar to the "tape solution" but a bit more durable and efficient... in theory. Note that as I'm writing this, I haven't tried it myself but I'd say it's worth a shot. **Edit:* Maybe putting the same side of a Velcro stand (again, it could be either side) on each part of the Switch would work even better.
Hey Vince. Love your Videos dude. Just wanted to ask your advice since you seem like you know a thing or two. I am having issues with my right joycon constantly desyncing when in docked mode with joycons detached. I have tried a lot of things including factory reset, controller update, complete disconnect of controllers, moving away from other appliances etc. Just wondering if you had any ideas short of sending back? Thanks a lot.
Hi there, thanks for the nice comments. Spawnwave did a RUclips video when the Switch came out where he added a wire in the Joy-Con and it increased the signal range. Hopefully you will find it on his channel. Maybe measure how far it is when it disconnects and then if possible take it into another room and do a range test again just in case you can pin point the source of interference :-)
Awesome thanks mate. Should be able to track it down without too much hassle. Worth giving anything a try at this point. Keep up the great work with the awesome content and thanks again!
My biggest issue with the whole case cover is think of the long term effect of the joycons having pressure applied of pushing and pulling on them when you put case on and take off
I highly recommend that everyone that is weary about this issue to press the button down hard when you are pulling them off AND putting them on. The reason the joycons click(the non-artificle click) is because the locking mechanism scrapes the side of the switch. If you press the button down when placing the joy cons ON the switch then it doesn't scrape the lock. If you get into the habit of doing this then you can fix the joy con issue. I have the two matte red joy cons and i would hate to get this problem. Remember to hold down on the button when taking them off and on.
@matt why dont you shut the fuck up. In these difficult moments its good to laugh once in a while, so if you dont have anything nice to say, DONT SAY ANYTHING
Οh man..I thought I was doing such a good job at taking care of my switch when I apparently wasn't..Where I live we don't have a nintendo support centre so..I'm screwed..Here goes another 65$ I guess..
I just dont get it how everyone is doing that. Are you guys like, throwing it against a wall 20 times a day? I have no problems AT ALL. I took my switch to so many vacations and play much on it. I even took it to the beach in italy. Nothing is broken, no lags at all. I dont get it. I think Nintendo did a perfect job there.
I don't have the problem my self but I know why it's happening my brother let a friend try his the lock button wasn't hit now the joycons don't hold the buttons need to be pressed
Just curious, my left Joy-Con is able to be taken off with a bit of force without pressing the button and is chipped. It doesn’t just slide off, but you can knock it off with your knuckle or push hard enough. So can I still try to have it fixed or replaced (if I have a warranty, it was a Christmas gift) or do I have to deal with it?
hi i was wanting to know can you use normal glue not a glue stick plz answer because i dont want to buy new ones .i dont have a 3d printer and i dont know how im going to ship it and recieve it thanks
I actually discovered a new method myself, ironically while watching this video. Take a safety pin, and the needle part should be long and thin enough to get into the small space, and just stab the needle into the joycon pin, UNDERNEATH the worn part. This sort of flattens it out, and accidentally solves the problem. I did the same drop test, but I have not tried exerting force into the joycon as I dont want to undo my fix, but it does seem to solve the loose joycon problem.
So I bought the console with grey Joy Cons while I was on vacation, and two weeks after I came back from the vacation, I had this issue with the left Joy Con. After around two months I bought a yellow set of Joy Cons, and I was really happy that the problem was fixed. Guess what? It happened again two months after I did but with the left yellow Joy Con! I'm not mad though, because I still need to put a little bit of effort to remove it and it never slid off while I was using the console.
I know I'm 8 months late but the same thing is happening with me. Like you have to put actual force for it to come out. Has it gotten worse since then?
Does anyone else love the snap sound it makes when you put the joycons in the switch because I do
YEEEEEEEES!
They completely refuse to allow you to have the joy-cons connected in TV mode. On the home menu, it just makes this "you can't do that" click and when you connect them it doesn't make the snap sound, and it puts the controller sync screen up if you're in a game

Lennon Wagner, how the fuck does this comment have anything to do with this video?
TheDubstepBoss
Everything. The man in the video suggested 3d printing a replacement of the joycon lock.
TheDubstepBoss dumb
he said it`s great some one could 3d print metal locks in the video, and to a lesser degree sell them on ebay
Battleofawesome don't use metal. That will also damage the console. I think having the hinge made of metal could damage the switch itself instead of just the joycon if dropped... I guess that's why they're plastic
Adri Vaquero or to keep it cheap lol.
the rails are made of metal
Exactly. They're designed to fail in a manner that is easier to repair. It's easier to repair or replace the joy-con than the console. USB cables are the same, it's easier to replace a cable than to open a phone and replace the connector

Yours are loose but mine are like glued or something I need to have a whole SWAT team to get them off

My little annoying ass cousin broke my joy cons... I hope this video can fix it
Holy Orange that's why I don't let people use my electronics Unless you're a good friend who isn't rough you can gtfo
Holy Orange Fix the cousin?
Oh, in English that joke doesn't have sense, bc you said „it”…
Me too my cousin broke my left joy-con ... but he 's not an ass annoying cousin :(
i have an 8 year old cousin, and I let him play with me but I would never let him borrow it
That's why I keep my switch away from lil kids family members lol.
I would get a new set of joycons, but i have the splatoon2 edition and am not willing to get a new pair of them
Yeah cut they cheap
They sell joycons the same color as the splatoon2 editon joycons
tape worked fine for me thanks and my joycon is also pairing in handheld mode thanks again
I dont have this problem
Because I dont have a switch ._.

You really don't like your switch do you
I just dont get it how everyone is doing that.
Are you guys like, throwing it against a wall 20 times a day?
I have no problems AT ALL.
I took my switch to so many vacations and play much on it. I even took it to the beach in italy. Nothing is broken, no lags at all. I dont get it. I think Nintendo did a perfect job there.
I don't have the problem my self but I know why it's happening my brother let a friend try his the lock button wasn't hit now the joycons don't hold the buttons need to be pressed

really good ideas!
Thanks so much, you saved me $80 on a new pair!
These are perfect! It’s great for a temporary fix until I have the money to buy some new ones
This is a great video, thank you for the tips
THANKS VERY MUCH I NEEDED THIS
Just curious, my left Joy-Con is able to be taken off with a bit of force without pressing the button and is chipped.
I know that I don’t have a Nintendo switch but I am enjoying the videos
Your accent is so satisfying to listen too
I actually discovered a new method myself, ironically while watching this video.
I just got the new switch oled and one of the controllers was loose after applying some black tape sturdy as a rock! Thanks!!
