So I finally cleared up enough space in the bass budget for an 8-string; and I'm thinking ahead, cus I know I'm the type that likes to play around with different types of strings. Say I buy some gimmicky low end strings that I like from a 4 string bass set. When it comes time to replace the octave strings, is it more economical to buy an 8 string set and throw the 4 low ends in a drawer somewhere, or would those piccolo bass strings make more sense?

well it really about how long the octave strings are made , bass strings make it to the 34 inch and more no problem but the thin octave need to be long scale , guitar strings are not that long so they wont make it to the tuners , a set will last a really long time but i always buy 8 string sets that match ...they might sell singles on line for the octaves , never done it that way ..hope that helps , have a great day you rock M

@@themomozone YO, this thing's different! It's becoming immediately apparent I'm gonna have to learn how to use a pick with this. looks like my cheaty finger-rolling string crossing shortcuts don't transfer over either. I get why you like these, it's not a bass with extra strings, this is a whole different animal.

@@NeededGR13F its a bit of bass and bit of guitar , really what ever you want it to be , it plays great with fingers and with a pick you can actually play the individual strings , takes a bit of practice but its whale other level of possibilities , thanks for dropping by have a great day M
