    Seems that the name of the game is more complex route schemes requiring quicker progressions but leading to wide open balls and easy passes to space. Lamar doesn’t have to have Drew Brees accuracy if he goes through his progressions to find the open man. He’s clearly put in the work to understand their new offensive concepts too. You can see his confidence.

      And threat of his running ability, I think his first three years in the league put the fear of god in his opponents. Because he was cutting and juking at a level most running back wish they could. So giving him any type of real space is way too dangerous. So his opponents always have that on their mind. That’s why his receivers and running backs get so much room to make plays because opponents work 90% of their game plan is focus on him.

    The timing of this upload was excellent. Anyone watching the Baltimore vs. Jacksonville Sunday night game (12/17/23) can attest: Lamar has levelled up. The box score from that game does not even BEGIN to tell the story. Lamar consistently buys time: sliding up, stepping out, and reversing course, when pressured- and instead of taking off (like he used to), he finds the open man.
    Purdy, CMC, the Cheetah, Dak, and Mahomes get the MVP talk- but, the truly most VALUABLE player, on any team, is Jackson. Yes, Baltimore has a scrappy defense. And, yes, even with Tucker having a down year, the special teams are fantastic. Yet, that offense begins and ends with Lamar. And he's doing it without his #1 running back (again) and his #1 target in an All-Pro TE in Andrews. The numbers don't necessarily reflect how good of a season this young man is having.

  • @jamesstrom6991
    @jamesstrom6991 7 месяцев назад +8

    “and with the reps…”. Exactly!! The run-first offenses resulted in Lamar just not throwing enough passes to move his skill forward to it’s potential. You get good by DOING, and doing a lot of passes has finally brought his skill level up that one notch. you see it in going through progressions, hitting small windows, changing the play at the line, etc. Next year, he is going to put on a season for the ages, just watch. he just needs to get his deep accuracy back to where he’s shown jt can be. generational talent and fantastic leader. a born qb

    With Monken's scheme showing it can work with the little wrinkles just needing to be worked out, the Ravens can finally say their potential in the playoffs or even SB isn't built on their defense. But how well their offense solves those opposing defenses and respond to possible offensive shootouts. Personnel wise the run game has been fine even if not resilient without the guy they hope to be that centerpiece in Dobbins. But the pass game has certainly reached that base floor of scoring potential, putting up big points on demand even against average opposing defenses. The next games with the Niners and the Fins will be the real term paper test but I feel Monken has the Ravens offense set up for graduation.

    That was my knock on him and it was fair to say it but it wasn't out of hate or disrespect, it was out of CONCERN. When those running QB's rely too much on their legs, their passing skill atrophy and degrade so when their legs get heavy, they have nothing to fall back on and their career is done by 30 or 32 years of age. Lamar has a dart, he can wing it we just never got to see ANY of that until now.

  • @naeroled

    Hmm, since "evolving" is turning into a "pocket passer", is Josh Allen "devolving" by relying on his legs more and more?

  • @dwayneclark3178

    The is the new Doug Williams, the first black quarterback to win a Superbowl. They said a Blackman couldn't play the position of quarterback. But he defined all odds and proved his critics wrong. Lamar Jackson will win a Superbowl and will have a better career than all the quarterbacks that they are better than him.

      For sure but this Ravens pass offense with Lamar is certainly nothing like 2019. In the Fins game Lamar found his mismatches easily for some chunk plays. In red zone drives they got the run game to threaten with or use looks from the run game to create some smart misdirection. Like in one instance where they ran condensed sets, had the TEs block for what looked like a run then peel off the other way and had Likely super open with no dude on him for a Lamar pass and catch TD. I feel this Ravens offense can be as good in the playoffs because they solve defensive situations against top 10 defenses in many ways to put points on them.

      @RaRa-pe9dt it's weird how some of the young QBs have their talent criticized for their lack of playoff success but the only QBs with a real longterm history of playoff wins are Rodgers, Wilson and Mahomes.

    All these narratives are dumb. Lamar didnt "evolve" he finally got an o coordinator who doesnt place dead last in passing every year, and some extra wr talent to boot. Its such an insult to anyone whos been watching him play, he's been in a league of his own ever since he was drafted. We tried to tell yall but you kept saying he was an rb for some reason.

    Lamar Jackson from year 1 to year 2 is the biggest improvement I've ever seen in a pro QB. He went from an amazing runner and terrible passer to amazing runner and decent NFL-quality passer who used the threat of running to get guys open and immediately won MVP. He must have studied his ass off that offseason.

    • @mikenike1616
      @mikenike1616 7 месяцев назад +1

      He wasn’t terrible he made few game winning throws especially when they first play chargers in regular season. It was just that terrible play off game against chargers. But he always threw the ball well. A terrible passer would be Tim Tebow that’s what you would call terrible. Tim Tebow had 46% passing completions he used to finish games with like only 2 passes completed. Lamar Jackson had a 59% his rookie and he didn’t start that year until week 8 or 10. But that’s average completion percentage among rookie quarterbacks he just wasn’t always hitting the deep ball but everything else he was very good at.

    Am I missing something? His stats stats were better with Greg Roman and Roman got more out of Lamar with less talent. Apart from that Lamar's pocket passing has been great from his second season the narrative has lived as a baseless talking point

    His playstyle has evolved so much. Hes turned into a game manager and that isnt a slight at him hes the best game manager in the league. And if you need him to take over the game he can still do that hes just very smart with how he uses his legs now. Avoiding injury as much as possible minimzing big hits. On those short to intermediate throws hes elite the arm angles he gets the ball out is crazy
