New here, and catching up on your postings. As a book guy I ended up going to a lot of the type of sales you do a long time ago, I am not so active now that I am over 75. One of the things I learned early on, because I was not above picking other things than books, if the price was right, ... after all I was already there.. was not to just use my eyes when looking at ceramics, China, and glass ware. use your fingers to run over all the edges, where there was likely to be a chip or crack. Your fingers will pick up things, even under the dust, that your eyes will miss. Even turning up a lot of carefully done repairs, not to mention the not so well done ones. 🙂

I have to admit, I'm still not used to seeing you handle glass! Especially the thin fragile pieces. 😄 I saw the chip in the colored piece but figured you didn't mind since it was so different. Hi Lina. From what I heard, it was one guy living there, there was a fire, he bailed, and the estate sale company was hired to liquidate. He wasn’t gone for years and the place was in an isolated location which is why the stuff was still there. Definitely a change with the glass stuff but have not broken anything yet. Sorry to miss the premiere, Dom, but my brother was visiting for the weekend.
Looks like you're going to have to start adding bubble wrap to your boxes - even a little clanking makes me nervous. Looking at sold prices at auction, the L E Smith glass seems to sell for surprisingly little - you seem to have gotten one of the better pieces.
As you probably know, serious art books can sell for big $$$ if you ever find them. I once saw a lot of rare Klee books go for over $1000 at auction. The catalogue raisonné type of art book is in a different league from the coffee table books.

Some really nice grabs in that group but I would have left the chip vase behind. Tried and failed at the same thing - thinking a small chip wouldn't make a difference but it really does if there's others for sale. So I try to examine them as close as possible when I first looked them over. You're still going to miss stuff like a crack but that's the best way to keep from being stuck with something you can barely get your money back for.

It amazes me how chips or cracks go unnoticed. You look several times and dont see till purchased I have to carry around and look often before seeing imperfections. Our brain likes to tell us it's perfect if we want it bad enough.

I have followed Jocelyn for awhile now, do you watch her videos? She is so knowledgable.
I have learned so much from her about glass. When you were picking up the vases I
was like saying, nope not that one it's chipped lol. The Swung vase is nice ! I wanted to give
you a small tip IF you don't mind. (delete if not appreciated) :p In the estate sale house when
you were showing the gorgeous pitcher and basin, you were spinning the picture to show us
how dirty it was. If you listen as your doing that it sounds like there is a sheet of sand paper
between the 2 items. After cleaned you showed us again, you were spinning the bowl. I was so
afraid that would you get home and find damage in the basin, like scratches ect. Just have to
really protect the "used glass" items since most are not found pristine. Best of luck on the new
rabbit hole your diving in. Great video, thanks!

It's actually a small chip but some pieces will still sell with a chip in it. I was not going to pass on this one due to the scarcity, iridescent rainbow colors, and Italian origin, and the $5 price. In general though, yes, usually best to avoid chips and cracks

The LE Smith vase was a great score. They are called “swung” because of the way they are made. The vase is created at the top by the artist swinging it while the glass is still pliable. None of them are the same at top. I believe the larger they are the more they’re worth. Don’t know how the really big ones are made. Big bucks to be had for them.

You go with the line of H"ey I do metal detecting as a hobby and was wondering if by chance the owners ever lost anything that you would like to find before the house is sold". It works great. Most of the time the say that nothing has ever been lost, but you can still detect the property if you like. If you're ever in the Detroit area, let me know and we can go detect some areas. HH Matt

Great find on the LE Smith. Too bad the American Eagle was claimed by one of the estate sale people. They should have removed it before the sale if they want it. Why? Because I was at an estate sale a few months ago. I picked up two swung vases off the sale table, found the estate sale company owner to ask the price (nothing was priced), she grabbed them from my hands and said... I’m getting these, you can’t buy them and she walked away with them. I was so shocked. I’ll never attended a sale by that company again. So unethical. What can you do? 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

No, I purposely passed on it. That's a Charles Chips tin. I used to get those delivered to my house from the Cahrles Chips truck when I was a kid. I see them at half of the estate sales I go to. They are very common and not worth much especially when factoring in shipping. I do get some potato chip containers sometimes but usually much older ones made on cardboard. Same with pretzel containers.
