This was very interesting. I had been under the impression that the discipline, hair shirt and stuff were radical ways to BECOME holier, and to kind of force oneself to stop doing the impatience etc. Hmmm. Opposite. Wowee.... Now I need to analyze my reactions to being corrected by my husband. He still has his head but he did get an earful last time ...😅
THERE IS CORRECTION OF THE LOVING AND YET CRITICAL KIND AND THERE IS CHISTISMENT! THERE IS A DIFFERENCE. Here at home I have one adult child that is always marginalizing me when I ask a question as to what is going...such as today when my other adult child, forgot his cell phone in his pocket and put his pants to be washed, so the cell phone was taken out and attempted to dry out and all I said what happened. And was told NOT NOW! AND in fact , I get told that a lot, not now, not now, just like a child. This is my house and im made to feel like a stranger and many husbands do the same...SO YEAH IT WOULD FIGURE THAT YOU WOULD SAY THAT ABOUT WOMEN!
Interesting. I have a real question? Should we become oblivious to abusive people in any state of life? Sure even if we could take it, should we take it? It seems spiritually we should not allow others to be abusive to us? Would love to continue this conversation?
I have experienced great sadness at my inability to continue great penances and I can now clearly see how that was a distraction from the little things, the little sacrifices, that I was neglecting. Pride is an insidious demon, so sneaky and deceptive. God grant me discernment and true humility.
Getting trapped in venial sin, after getting over mortal sins is real. There is a temptation for me to want to bear bigger crosses to make up for my past.

Very good video. Thank you very much Fr. I can definitely agree on the small "penances" crosses that I avoid. I sometimes think martyrdom is eaiser than the small crosses. My previous spiritual director told me that we usually don't want the crosses/penances that are given to us like our daily duties and fulfiling our vocation and we prefer to impose other crosses on ourselves to avoid the smaller penances/crosses. He said that every little action made with love could be offered to God. Maturity in spiritual life along with prayer is important. Its the small things when we don't want to do them that can be offered to God and to Our Lady for many reasons especially for reparation, for the Holy Souls in Purgatory, and for the conversion of sinners. 🙏🙏🙏Our Blessed Virgin Mother Mary, Queen conceived without original sin, Pray for us.
You are so very right. I’ve been married for 53 years and it’s very difficult at times to be patient and charitable especially if he points out your faults. Last week I was praying for some humility and got an answer really fast. My husband came down with a nasty stomach problem I had to clean up and it was very difficult for me to stay pleasant throughout it. It’s said when the Angel cried out Penance at Fatima he meant these everyday things you encounter with your family. Much harder to me than fasting.
Being a Mom at home taking care of 🏠 is my hair shirt. Often felt isolated, THAT was the Worst. Having no other adult around when my husband was at work. All the cooking, cleaning, laundry! Serving others, Careful you don't lose yourself (what makes you Special trying to please others). In my case, it helped me FIND my worth. A Long journey since marriage 25 years ago❤, hard fought wisdom and now ready to enjoy Life!
What has been eye opening for me, reading St Therese, Story of a Soul, is that all that we do to serve, is not primarily for the sake of the person, but for the love of God. The love of God is the only thing that can sustain a person through all the service we are called to do. Service to people we love is easy St Therese tells us, service to those would rather not want to, that takes the love of God, and discovering all the good attributes of the person and why God created that person in His image. I do hope that your enjoyment of life means a deeper prayer life and union with God, and not merely material benefits. Prayers for you and your family.
It also needs to be noted. I do penances such as saying Hail Mary’s for the people in my life in cold showers. This has helped me to do the smaller penances that are in my life (like being charitable to my neighbors). It’s true that doing big penances can cause pride in people when really those penances are easier for them than the little ones. But it is also true that doing those penances can help us to think about the smaller penances to do in our lives too. I am not a priest, just my thoughts.
Every day is a grind to take this situations with my wife and make them a penance. Thank you for confirming it to me Father. God bless you and this channel!

I'm not religious but these points are valid. Most people are just looking to be a good and upright person in all instances. Even if the mind slips to a place that is inappropriate, a good and moral person does not act or give further energy to that thought. On a side note, it is normal to try add one behavior to correct for another. If I eat too much pizza, surely I can add more miles per week to my running mileage, Much harder to remove a bad habit than to add a good one.
