She was fantastic in "The Night of the Iguana"!! She played a nun like spinster who befriends and charms a raging drunk (Richard Burton), calming him down in a memorable scene when he's tied down in a hammock to prevent him commiting suicide.
    One of my favorite films.

Deborah's a treasure and it's kind of great that she is underrated. Some of the most profound and beautiful things in life exist before us and go unrecognized. We see them when we have the capacity to "see" them. Her husband Peter Viertel said her self-effacement and her kindness was very rare in their line of work- especially in someone so gifted and beautiful.

When i left school at 15 years old the first things i bought with my allowance from my first weeks wages was 2 ties and a photo of deborah kerr. I still have one of the ties and the photo. I always wanted to act with her and was very upset when michael anderson jr won the part of her son in the sundowners in which also starred my other favorite actress glynis johns. Im now 76 years old and still have deep regret that i never met deborah or glynis. Thats life i guess.❤😢

Just 10 best? I couldn’t have done it. This is my favourite actress of all time… when I went to Hawaii and I got to the beach where the kissing scene was filmed, I went down there and sat on the beach and recreate it in my mind… keep up the great work, I agree with you on almost all your choices!

Loved this!! Thank you. At 77 my whole life is filled with this wonderful woman's movies. As a young child, The King & I filled me with such joy. The Innocents floored me in my teens. And most of the movies you mentioned have given me such great entertainment.
HOWEVER: How could you skip Night of the Iguana. I still feel such rich, lush vibrations at listening to her voice oppisite Richard Burton as iconic Man & Woman---Adam & Eve. Such perfect tone and delivery that their lines were like the greatest prose of our language(s) poetry.
How could you leave out this one? I've always loved this actress and all her movies. Thanks again.

I usually 'rate' a film by how likely I am to watch it again (and again). With that in mind, my favorite Deborah Kerr movie is "Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison". My sister and I got to watch this in theatres when it first came out, and loved it. Anytime we have the opportunity, we enjoy watching it again.
Thank you for your insightful comments, keep up the great work!

I'm glad you mentioned Vacation From Marriage; most people wouldn't have known that one. I think she is underrated because in most of her films she worked in an ensemble and was not given vehicles of her own as was often done for other actresses.

Night of the Iguana is a heartbreaking role for her. It's a secondary part in a movie full of showy parts but she quietly walks away with the film in my book

She played a nun twice. Loved all her films. GRASS IS GREENER is a third Mitchum/Kerr film. A bit of fluff of a film I've seen MANY times. She is so elegant in any role. Irene Dun & Charles Boay spelled so you can see correct pronunciation!

I would have included "Night of the Iguana" in the Honorable Mentions. The scene where Deborah calms down an agitated Richard Burton is mesmerizing. I even have some the dialogue in my computer documents. On the other hand, you introduced me to two of her British films that I haven't seen, "Perfect Strangers" (U.S. title: "Vacation from Marriage") and "I See a Dark Stranger."

Liz Taylor likely would be first to agree: hated Butterfield 8 and thought it *not!!* Oscar-worthy. "I won because of a tracheotomy," she complained, referring to drastic treatment during her near-death health collapse.
