Hi Dan, living in Arizona, my kid's, best friend use to hike in there all the time. We never dug, it was to easy to find diamonds on top of the ground, right after a rain they would just glisten, the best time to find them them is almost dark use your flashlight to see the diamonds clearer. Over the years I have bags and bags of them that I make into jewelery.
Wowwww that’s so amazing what I would give to do that! What an awesome time you must have finding actual treasure! The best thing we find in the uk is giant mushrooms in autumn and pretty rocks with a slice of granite through the middle. I’ve heard you can find quartz shards on Dartmoor
@@garyfrancis6193 I pray for your peace of mind and heart. Instead of being hateful, go hike yourself it might make all the difference in your attitude. Thanks for correcting me.
Ooo Dan....trenches are not allowed there. Cannot disturb the ground surface more than the size of a waterbottle.....I hope at least you backfilled the trench.
I grew up in Payson and would find "Payson Diamonds" when out hiking with my family. I would find them just on the surface, often on side of canyons/hills where sun light would draw draw your eyes from the reflection of the "diamond". Good fun!
I lived in Payson for awhile also, love the area. Another item that can be found in Payson are called Payson brains, which are geodes with a nodular exterior that resembles a brain. The cavity usually contains low quality quartz crystals. The largest one I found was around 8".
It was to my understanding the camping couple did not fill back their giant hole last time they were in diamond point. The whole community was talking about it. Please make sure you fill your holes in. You seem like a good person and respectful of the balance in nature. That place is a special place to those of us that live in this state. . So we just want to protect it and let everyone have a chance to enjoy it too etc
Took my family to the Crater of Diamonds in Arkansas last week, got alot of cool crystals from a quartz mine but still going through gravel and hoping for a diamond. Thanks Dan for getting me and my family into this stuff
Regardless of naysayers… I love when you post videos of digging for crystals! Your videos are always a blast to watch! They remind me of the excitement of getting to dig and play in the dirt to find treasures!!! Thank you for taking us along on all your adventures!
In Edmonton we had a new subdivision start in the mid 90's just on the edge of my Nabour hood. We found alot of these before the foundations were started after the rain I found them on the surface
Hope you had fun, Dan! You were about an hour and a half west of me. I wonder if you stopped by any of the gold mines on your way there? 🤔 A heads up, 1 cubic yard per day is what is allowed to be dug. Also, all holes MUST be back-filled before leaving. I sure hope they helped to keep our forest in good shape.
Wow, I knew you were in Tucson, but I’m so excited you made it up to my back yard. My family and I go to another spot full of Payson diamonds closer to our home in Strawberry. Lots of great fossils around that area too. Bummed that we did not get a chance to run into you out there. I hope you make it out here again. Awesome video, the family and I love your enthusiasm and love of adventure.
@Dan Hurd ORANGE COUNTY NC IS FULL OF BRIGHT ORANGE CLAY! Home of the largest supplier of truffles to Legassi as well. I find those beautiful stones very often where I live in NC & even like a rose or red quartz look- some are within massive sized stones- one rose quartz I found weighed about 15-20 pounds or more possibly. It was huge. I was so disappointed when a neighbors kid took it from my porch & shattered it all on the parking lot 😩😩😩 These things are literally everywhere in the woods behind my home.
My family lives near there, and have driven to Diamond Point near Payson before. Beautiful spot. You should’ve visited Geode Hill a few miles around the corner. You should do a fan meet-up at Diamond Point next time you’re in Arizona. I’d definitely drive up for that.
Dan, if you like nice garnets and wouldn't mind traveling to New Hampshire. There is a location near Keene at Mt. Monadnock using the red dot trail. There is a cliff face that is literally studded with different sized crystals that are absolutely beautiful.
How fun! I love the Payson area lots of good minerals in the area, and alota fossils are as well. Next time you come down to AZ, you should consider a quick days visit to Safford. You can find not only fire agate but my favorite local mineral oddity known as Saffordite 😀
Beautiful "cousins" to our Herkimers here in NY. I loved the one showing the most purple color with a bit of golden hues to it and the double double is just stunning.
Really enjoyed the production quality of this video. Not sure exactly WHY I appreciated this episode so much, perhaps I caught a bit of magic in the deep trench; the feeling of discovery. Probably too, the camera angles peering into and then, up out of the trench. The gnarly roots, texture and color of the soil, all conspired to enchant me. Thanks for the feeling of wonder.😊
I just found you yesterday, and how could you not earn my subscription? You are just so fun I love your personality. You just get so excited about everything. I don’t even like gem stone but I will watch you because I can tell you like them enough for the both of us.
You probably hear this a lot BUT, I seriously enjoy your channel. I'm an old girl (59) and I spend a tonne of time in the forest. Watching your channel helps me dream of finding special stone out there, maybe GOLD! You must be a blast to hang out with! Keep being you. It's soooo fun to watch.
Holy crap! I just left a comment on your newest video about my scout leader as a kid finding a 21 ounce gold nugget. That is the exact mountain range that happened in! Didn’t realize there were diamonds there as well. So cool.
So they look like we call Herkimer diamonds,,, named for Herkimer NY,,,, a place they are very common,,, I was given a few from a friend who gathered many and gave several to all of us,,, she had a bag full,,,,,, Herkimer NY,,,, look it up 👍👍👍👍👍
Would have loved to hear an explanation on what led you guys to dig in that specific spot. Did you find some on the surface nearby or was there something about the area that gave it away? Awesome finds for sure!
Just to let you know Dan, you earn my existing subscription with every video you release! I've be subscribed for quite some time now, and I have never finished a video of yours feeling let down. In fact, you have given me a great deal of inspiration! I've always been a rockhound but now I pay a lot closer attention to the rocks and stones and even mud I happen to find myself walking by or close to, especially when I'm out fishing for a day!, always making time to look at the rocks around me to and from Fishing.
Same, I'm a jewler myself and I'd love to get my hands on some of these to incorporate into my pieces..the purple makes them even nicer than Herkimer in my opinion
Hi Dan, & camping couple, really enjoyed watching you guys digging them Payson diamonds , but at the end 20.59 there was some thing weird and black running in the woods , was it a shadow of some thing, at first i though it was a bear , got scared for you all
One of my favorite spots is north on the 87 not down the 260 they are everywhere on the surface no digging required I grew up in Payson AZ I love that area
Interesting. Many years ago our family spent a day at Herkimer Diamond mine in upstate New York. Their diamonds where mostly inside rocks and you found similar quartz in dirt.
There are similar Herkimer diamonds. I think they occur near Herkimer N.Y., a nice little town West of Albany. I have a few. I bought mine at the Capilano Rock Shop, in North Vancouver.
Oh Dan you love rocks and panning -- you MUST go to Australia and see the "rocky river" it is Filled to the brim with amythest and quartz agate and jasper and geodes You would love this place :)
The luster appears to be as a natural gold deposition, similar appearance as the gold surface treatment of quartz, the aqua aura fad. Now these are worth digging!
My wife and I love this area, i wish i could post pictures of the pocket we found, the dozens of thumb sized ones and the cluster we found without digging
When I was a Boy Scout I went to a cave by a fire tower not far from the Christopher creek/ payson area and there’s a really big cave that I have no idea what the name is but we found tons of those crystals in the washes and trails where we camped
I've never heard of Payson Diamond's before, so that's interesting to see, I have an Herkimer Diamond, I thought they were the same apparently not..., congrats on the finds 👍
Hey Dan, love your videos! Be careful when digging at Diamond Point.. there’s usually very strict rules when digging up there unless something has changed and just haven’t heard yet
We took several family trips to collect crystals and geodes in Payson when my kids were in elementary school. We planned our route each time to stop by Meteor Crater and the Petrified Forest. Years later we still have some of the little "monkey brain" shaped geodes in our rock garden as a reminder of those adventures.

“Used to”. Look it up. I’m tired of explaining. I bet you write “ lose” as “loose”, don’t you?

@Gary Francis you are a compelled moderator of English. It's good you can't give tickets for such minor infractions

Grew up in Mesa and every summer my whole family would go rockhounding and fossil hunting in Payson. This brought back so many memories.
Are the more like quartz crystals and not so much diamonds?
Are they valuable?
My husband and I grew up in Payson/Tonto Village too. :) Hello fellow Paysonite 👋

Took my family there as well and was a blast. We didn't find any diamonds but was still worth the trip!
That’s awesome.
I went last year it was awesome found a very small Diamond and every minute of it was spectacular
go for something more common than diamonds so you have the satisfaction of actually finding something hahaha
Going there in June! Always wanted to go! Can't wait!
Regardless of naysayers… I love when you post videos of digging for crystals! Your videos are always a blast to watch! They remind me of the excitement of getting to dig and play in the dirt to find treasures!!! Thank you for taking us along on all your adventures!
It gave me chills when you said I wish I was young again that really made me think I should be doing more fun stuff while I'm young
Great job Mr.. thank for sharing
Your personality is contagious Dan. You’re fun to watch. Keep making videos. It’s obvious you enjoy your work.
Seriously! I watched a video a couple years back and have been hooked since!!! Great energy!!!
Congratulations on finding a rare Payson diamond! It's always exciting to come across something special and unique like this.
What a fun video. It's so exciting to see the treasures no one has ever seen before.

Hahahaha it looks like a lava rock, but I can’t say much, I have a affinity for limonite.
Those are my old Rockhounding and fossil hunting stomping grounds from when I was a kid!
I had a cabin near Payson, Az for about 20 years. I wish I would’ve known about Payson diamonds then.
good finding ❤
Wow, we camp in Payson several times a year and I had no idea people were still prospecting up there. Also, welcome to Tucson when you get here!
Very nice crystal hunt awesome video great content thank you for sharing this with us six stars my friends
We love all that you do.
Thanks, guys, something new to look for. You came to my town..😊
Payson DIAMOND - Dan, I hold ALL in every time I am glued into Your video!
Thank you Dan, for the wonderful adventure, keep up the great work!!!!
Beautiful haul Dan. That double double is definitely a display piece.
I love watching these because I learn so much about geology!
Where I live we have the Lake County diamond quartz not terminated but still really beautiful when you get some really clear specimens.
Beautiful "cousins" to our Herkimers here in NY. I loved the one showing the most purple color with a bit of golden hues to it and the double double is just stunning.

We broke Payson Diamonds from vugs in the hard limestone on the road to Diamond Point lookout. Those little gems you dug from the mud are very nice!
Those diamonds were super cool. Doing great Dan keep up the great work
AWESOME information at 19:50.

What you call a small or broken or a bad crystal, I see crystals that could be mounted in strands of gold or silver for necklace or earring pendants.

We dug like this and found some good ones. But definitely want to fill those holes in when you are done.
That's a huge pocket in the ground. Those crystals beautiful btw I love it!!!!!

Flagstaff arizona is my home but I moved to Washington state afew years ago recognized those forest the second I saw the thumbnail love it ❤
Hansen Creek Washington has lots of double terminated quartz crystal but it's all up hill at a 45° angle... Lol

Cool stuff man! Amethyst coloring too! Love the geology lessons of the day too! Keep em coming!

Really enjoying the mineral videos ! Keep up the hard work
Awesome, I wish I could visit some of these places for the experience myself. Hey Dan, could I have that little tiny cute one you found please?
Pauly's been MIA for over two weeks in NZ. Hope he's fine and posts soon.
He posted on patreon recently
MIA?
Nooo, I double checked. He posted on patreon Friday and he’s in a room with his lap top
Thanks you for the video Mr Dan Hurd
Out here where I live, we have a one of a kind diamond of our own. It is called the Lake County Diamonds (also not a true diamond).
I go there a lot…..I have thousands of them. So. Much fun to find❤
We are heading out there today.
your at 365 comments kinda hate to change that number, but better me. THANK YOU DAN & THAT CAMPING COUPLE!!!!
I've never heard of Payson Diamond's before, so that's interesting to see, I have an Herkimer Diamond, I thought they were the same apparently not..., congrats on the finds 👍
These are awesome when they have the purple!
Hey Dan, love your videos! Be careful when digging at Diamond Point.. there’s usually very strict rules when digging up there unless something has changed and just haven’t heard yet
All the while when you were digging I was seeing glints of crystals still in the clay.
What a day you had !
Did they fill in the holes that were dug?
