    Jokes aside, I am surprised how well Ryunosuke knows English in these games when he goes to England. English is my first language, but even I had to stop for a moment to understand some of the heavier British slang. Japanese and English couldn't be further apart to be honest, especially back then when English had only had a presence in Japan for barely 40 or 50 years by the time the first game starts.

    • @spyfieri
      @spyfieri 2 года назад +129

      Isn’t he an English student? I think that’s at least how they rationalized it in-game

    • @TayoEXE
      @TayoEXE 2 года назад +96

      @@spyfieri Yes, but a second year English student, and I'm not sure what Susato was. She just seemed to love reading English literature from a young age (but reading and actually speaking with native speakers in their own country are two very different skills). I look at the students at my university who didn't live in Japan and who are on their second year, and they can barely even hold a conversation, let alone study foreign law and the complicated nuances of professional language. Heck, Japanese students (including my wife) study English from middle school through high school, and they can barely actually speak the language. In other words, Ryunosuke barely having contact with actual native speakers and probably studying mostly English grammar, then being able to fully understand someone like Gina or Shamspeare is amazing, barely having been in London for a week, etc.

    I found it rather funny that in the first case (the one in japan), he didn't know what the lady was saying; however, as he was found on the boat he understood English... did Kazuma teach him the entire English language that quickly.

    • @user-garnet
      @user-garnet 2 года назад +38

      yeah nah that *really* didn’t make sense,
      The only way I can rationalise it in my head is that the trials take place from the perspective of the general public. But that’s stretching it.

    • @elijahharris1113
      @elijahharris1113 2 года назад +126

      He and Kazuma understand Brett since they both study English in their university. The rest of the court doesn't speak English, so that's why Brett's speech looked like gibberish until she switched to Japanese. There's a line that Kazuma says that goes something like "From what I can tell, [Inspector Hosonaga] is translating her words faithfully."

    • @darrencrissistotallyawesom918
      @darrencrissistotallyawesom918 2 года назад +116

      @@elijahharris1113 Yes and Ryunosuke says something like:
      "You're obviously going to be fine in Britain, her English doesn't rattle you at all."
      And Kazuma replies something like:
      "It doesn't rattle you either. Seems you paid attention in your English classes."
      Or something like that.
      So yeah, Ryunosuke knew English, the game just makes it look like gibberish which doesn't exactly make sense, but I get it
