Smoking is that habit that we love and hate because it's our little personal friend and time killer when we are bored and lonely, but also is killing us and making us weaker....
Its such a bitch because I love being smoke free, but then there are times during the day where i feel like something personal is missing....Its such a devious addiction.

Nicotine is not a friend. A friend wouldn't steal your money and then try to kill you.

The Bible says that the Devil came to kill, steal and destroy . Seems like nicotine is his tool. On the flip side Jesus said he came to give abundant life. Praise God!!!

Three months after quitting and I do experience intense bouts of depression every day for an hour or two. I do practice meditation, breathwork and ice plunges, which makes a significant difference. Dopamine cycle needs time to go back to normal. After over a decade of smoking, my body deserves to not feel great at least for a couple hours a day. It is the least I can do. Don't give up ❤

I've been nicotine free for 6 weeks now and smoke free for four months. I'm doing a bit better. I still have anxiety attacks but once or twice a week instead of several every day like i had 2 months ago. Experiencing some backpains and cough now that i haven't had earlier.
I put on alot of weight the first 3 months but it's receeding now since i've gotten a little more energy the last couple of weeks.
Still can't get the exercise that i need to feel happy. I crash after 4-5 minutes of intensive workout.

Forth week and I still feel terrible and depressed. I don't want to smoke, but insomnia and anxiety are killing me.
upd: nvm, two month later and for a month and a half I've been feeling great. quitting smoking was my greatest achievment of 22. i'm not depressed anymore and my sleep has improved drastically. i don't even think about smoking anymore and if someone reminds me of it, I feel a huge sense of relief, because I don't have the need to poison myself anymore. all cravings are completely gone. that was probably the best decision i've made in the last 10 years or smth. I have lots of energy, even started swimming again and I feel really good and healthy now. morning cough has gone, as well as chronic bronchitis. chest ache has gone too
if you are struggling right now, let me assure you, it will 100% get better.

Day 5 of quitting. My emotions have been up and down, some days I’m positive but others I’m really down and short tempered. I’ve worked through depression a few times before and I feel like I can navigate it in a sense that it will never take a complete hold of me again. It’s unsettling to know that for next couple of weeks I’ll go through this push and pull process. The good thing about this feeling is it that it can reveal what you think is truly missing from your life. Lean Into it my friends and thank you Chris for these words of wisdom.

I never realized how boring life is without a cigarette! When you're smoking you are always doing something well at least you think you are. When that cigarette is gone it's a horrible realization that your life is one big pile of boring crap. I don't even think I could do my job anymore. I had no idea how boring my job was until I quit smoking. What am I going to do? I'm 50 I can't change careers. I can't go back to smoking I promise Jesus Christ I won't I gave it up as a sacrifice. Now what? What do I do? I've smoked for 38 years doing everything while I smoked. 38 years almost two packs a day sometimes more if I drank. I'm bored but I don't want to do anything. Nothing satisfies me whatsoever. I feel like such a loser because cigarettes was the highlight of my life. Now they're gone and everything sucks. If somehow I can get to a gym that would be great but literally I stay in bed everyday I'm not walking which is 3 days in a row. This is sick! Your video is great by the way! But I don't know how to get past doing my boring work as an accountant anymore. So now what?

    • @ChrisSkoyles
      @ChrisSkoyles  5 лет назад +12

Hi there, sorry it took me a while to get back to you on this - responding to comments usually does! I'm sorry to hear you've been struggling with this. How are you doing a week on after your comment? Taking small baby steps usually helps me out of my "everything sucks and I just want to stay in bed" periods - like if there's just one small positive thing I can do for myself, it puts me on that path towards slowly but surely getting better. So rather than going to the gym -which can seem like an overwhelming thing when you're in that state- maybe start with "i'm just going to walk to the store and back" or, maybe I just get up and tidy one room of my house..or one part of that room. Or maybe this is a time to think "right, I'm finally free from smoking - this is a chance to start afresh, to do things that I've always wanted to do, to become a new me." It's never too late to do what you want to do in life :)

My mother passed from lung cancer from smoking. I have just been told I have enlarged lungs, so the beginning of copd, so how is it going to day? Dear Chris, I've been smoke free for almost 3 months and wondered why I've so suddenly have been dealing with low , sad moods... i just did an internet search on smoking cessation and depression and your video came up first ~ I was so relieved to hear your take on this, I have related to so many of your confrontations as a new non smoker. Thank you kindly for making this video!! You've given me tools to help me handle this dilemma and more importantly a positive sense of hope that I'm not alone. Looking forward to watching your other videos. ☀️

Sometimes we puffed problems away. It's like hiding behind the smoke of a cigarette. That's psychologically unhealthy. Smoking causes stress. That stress distracts from real stress and creates an illusional feeling of relief when smoking. But all it really does is pushing your heart rate up and stresses you. Depression after smoking often comes from fear to loose something. You've gotta adjust your mind and free it from addiction. Making oneself clear smoking gives you nothing and takes it all in the worst cases. After quitting you get stronger every day. Probably stronger than someone who never has been addicted to something in some way.

This is why its good to drink plenty of water and start eating healthy so when you do quit you arent depressed. Smooking basically dulls ur body from nutrients and when you quiet you feel it but if you are giving your body nutrients and quiet its less of a pain when you quit.

For me, the hardest part about depression is knowing exactly how to get out of it, but not doing it. I quit drinking, smoking, and my job three months ago. It has been an encredably difficult period. I keep wondering when it will start to pass, but am realizing that that is up to me. I need gainful employment, but have to give myself a pep-talk to take a shower. My stubbornness seemed a fault before. But in the case of quitting bad habits, the stubbornness has been my only power. I like your idea about taking small steps, to keep the tasks attainable. I think this is the way. I realize it's been four years since you put this video into the world, but know it is still positively effecting people. Thank you.

@@mrvetiver5587 Much better, I’ve been lifting for the past year straight during my breaks at work, we have a gym there, so I get paid to lift on the company’s dollar. I haven’t touched nicotine in over a year, maybe pushing a year and a half in December. Life is still life with its ups and downs, but I’m not going to go back, I hate nicotine, it’s not worth it, the way it makes you feel, shortness of breath, bad gums, acid reflux, a general look of unhealthy ness and a lack of motivation, all very bad things that keep you from moving forward in life. I felt worse using nicotine day to day than I ever would have, but life doesn’t just get solved when you quit, then you move on to something else, like getting your rest each night, I tended to use nicotine and caffeine to make up for shitty sleeping habits. Finding something to replace that dopamine kick from nicotine is kinda hard, weather it be bullshitting, maybe a mid day snack or 2, lifting and caffeine helps me lol.

I smoked as a stress reliever. It took 5 minutes to smoke a cigarette. Even though I was breathing in toxins, I WAS breathing in and out slowly for 5 minutes. So it was an effective stress reducer. The deep rhythmic breathing helped regulate my moods.

I recently quit marijuana after 10 years of daily use. I've decided that today I'm going to start my journey to quit cigarettes. I am nervous, doubtful and to be honest terrified of the withdrawal symptoms...People may laugh at me but quitting weed has led me to terrible nightmares and almost a fear of falling asleep..I really want to stop smoking cigarettes and I hope there is a light at the end of the tunnel for me. Thank you for your videos.

Day 8, i have been going mental these past days. Crying constantly, ruminating, sleeping a lot, being very anxious and short tempered around other people... I think quitting smoking when i was already feeling low from a breakup was a surefire way to hit rock bottom, lol. Oh well, i'm already doing it, helps to know i might not be going insane.
By the way... Is anyone else having ridiculously vivid nightmares?

The depression from quitting is no joke. I have to push myself to even get out of bed. I can't believe i stupidly started smoking again after recovering from a previous episode of depression bought on from quitting last time! Now 1.5 months after quitting again i'm going through another severe episode! Talk about having a short memory! It's bloody hard going through it!
