    Miller is a legend. One of the best Weekend Update anchors and his HBO specials and show were great.

    Dennis Miller is the modern-day master of the arcane historical reference.

    Dennis Miller has these obscure references which I've always gotten - we're near about the same age - but he is very smart and quick. Like most comedians.

    Love Dennis Miller. It's nice to be able to have google at your fingertips when listening to him. Not the case in his SNL days.

      Not the case for most of his solo talk show days, either - "Dennis Miller Live" began around the time the Internet went public.

    Miller is 3 years younger than I am, and it's a refreshing, if somewhat disturbing, to be reminded that it's a different era I now live in.
    As O'Reilly says "Kudos Mr. Miller"

    The man deserves a statue. With the longer locks from his younger years. Anyone who's profession is making people laugh, and doing so regularly, deserves a statue.

    Even though I didn't really like the direction Dennis went within the last 10+ years, I'll give him credit for making the effort and trying to be genuine with his discussion of adjusting to the times ... whether it be with how he views aspects of sports or life. Because many of us are far more keen to a public figure/entertainer/etc. putting on a facade to plug something, the only thing left to say is time will tell if the more genial Dennis who appeared on Kimmel, Rich Eisen, etc. is, in fact, legit ... or if he trends more towards a Chuck Woolery existence on social (and more traditional) media.

    Miller always struck me as a guy who strives diligently to be witty and urbane but can't quite pull it off. His overreach is especially notable in his appearances with Bill O'Reilly.

    • @kendallandrews8691
      @kendallandrews8691 5 лет назад +1

      He pulled it off on SNL and in the Black and White Special, but yes his turn to a Foxnews commentator and his relationship with Orelly is worthy of much mockery.

      @sfairraid 13 ...you're too quick to make assumptions. I'm a lifelong Republican --- I voted for McCain in '08, Romney in '12 and supported Kasich in '16, so my politics have nothing to do with my critical assessment of Dennis Miller. He just comes across to me as a guy who lacks true intellectual heft, and whose strained efforts to project an image of breezy urban chic fall utterly flat. His "witty" bon mots are cringe-worthy and embarrassing to say the least.

    • @frisco21
      @frisco21 4 года назад

      @sfairraid 13 ...I would have more respect for Miller if we would drop the phony-baloney metrosexual image he desperately tries to cultivate, and just be himself, whoever that is. While I do not view him as a serious intellectual, I also would acknowledge that he's not a total dummy. I have no doubt he is capable of adding interesting dialogue to a conversation, if only he would drop the pretenses. I swear, I literally gagged every time he flippantly referred to O'Reilly as "Billy Boy." Patently fake!

    • @frisco21
      @frisco21 4 года назад

      @sfairraid 13 ...yes, I think your description of Miller is probably accurate. But, unfortunately, this still paints him as a phony, even if that phoniness is in misguided service of the dubious goal of showing that conservatives can be cool dudes, too. As a conservative myself who is not a bible-thumper, what most offends me about Miller is that he is a conventionally smart, if not brilliant, guy who is nevertheless so insecure in his socio-political skin that he feels he must pretend to be a Dutch Uncle to his liberal Hollywood friends. Thus, we have this false personae that is a lie and a fakery. Many of Miller's fans fail to grasp that the "witty repartee" that he had with Bill O'Reilly was carefully scripted and delivered much the same as an SNL skit. This was _not_ genuine conversation, no matter how spontaneous it might have appeared to some fans. If you listen carefully to Miller's remarks in those O'Reilly appearances, you will quickly realize --- if you're being honest --- that nobody really talks that way.

      @sfairraid 13 He's been doing the metrosexual thing since SNL in the '80s.

    If the players had not sued the NFL for cte and concussions these rules would never have been voted in. The NFL did this to cover their arse nothing more. If they made a rule and the player breaks it then it is now the players fault.

    I’ve never seen a more unfunny comic get more praise that he ever deserved like Dennis Miller. He makes Jay Leno look like Robin Williams and Chris Rock performing a standup duet with Chris Tucker screaming hilariously in the background.

    He opened with a Heat reference...because the studio is in LA and presumably the office campus reminds him of a tarmac. Really? That’s a reach. Seems like he was desperate to play the nostalgia card.
    The fact that his opening line is referencing a movie from 1995 shows this guy is past his prime (not because he’s old, but because he hasn’t kept up) and he’s making content for a declining audience (they’re literally dying off) that’s stuck in yester-year.
    ...you know what, now I get it. His entire act is playing the nostalgia card. He doesn’t have any real insights or creative things to say. Just references to things that don’t matter to anyone under 40.

      Ya genius, he's old, and I think we all know that insight is primarily gained through youth and inexperience. Pontificate for another 3 paragraphs like anyone cares to take lesson from a boy/s (whom has never accomplished anything) shallow thoughts on a man , (whom has already navigated life successfully). Wonder if ur neck ever gets sore from blowing yourself all day on social media...? na,... you've been practising for years.

      Arcane references have always been this guy's thing. Enjoy RICK AND MORTY (which also has many 20 and 30-year-old references in it).
