Totally Tarja-song.
And as many have already said: Emppu shines 😍
I’m always giggling because of the Iron Maiden-Reference at the end. 😄
I'm very glad to see Emppu being appreciated for what he really is. He's usually overlooked and I get that, being usually behind the genius of Tuomas and the overwhemlming vocals of Floor/Tarja is understandable. But I enjoy very much your words about him. Thanks again.
Nightwish started out as an experimental project between ex-schoolmates (Tuomas, Emppu, Tarja) and became a very special kind of magic✨Sometimes it's hard to believe that each member of this band is as outstanding at what they do as they are -- skill and talent combined with so much love for their art, I think that's what makes the live performances such an experience.
Especially Emppu is always so fun, so cheerful and such a joy to watch, and you're right, he makes it look SO easy, I love him! And Tarja also owns my whole heart, I adore her to bits!
Thank you for your reaction, your analysis and your insights, it was super interesting!!
One of the few Nightwish songs I prefer to sing by Tarja, but actually for me it's Emppu's song. He is allowed to play himself nicely in the foreground here.
Wishmaster was the last album from Nightwish's power metal era. It was followed by Century Child, where they went full on Symphonic, before they settled for a more balanced approach with Once.
What really gets my heart pounding with those old power metal pieces is that for once you can hear Emppu absolutely shredding.
SO true!!!! Emppu really goes full guitar-god mode here!
I concur with Gabriel's list, Keep in mind that there is a lot of band drama and angst, the band is disfunctional behind the scenes everyone BUT Tarja knows that this is her last show, the letter firing her is written, with the end of this long tour, illness and the band generally beat down, this performance shows NONE of that, they do not know if the band will continue, they do now it will continue without her. I have felt that they pulled out all the stops to go out on top no matter what happens. Personally I think "End of a Era" was one of the best Tarja era concerts ever, in fact, it was one of the best Nightwish concerts ever. I guess what I am pointing out that what ever hurts Nightwish may have, IT NEVER effected the show, that is professionalism.
There are signs all throughout this concert that something is coming to climax. During Phantom, Emppu is almost never seen but the view of him, he looks like he’s in tears. And I believe at the end, Tarja walks off to her own area of the stage….. there are other things as well.
One of my favourite guitar solo´s by Emppu. He absolutely slays in this song.
Nightwish is truly genre defining and masters of them all
This song is essentially one never ending lead solo show by Emppu. Tarja just excels with this performance 🎭 💥💥💥💥
I can't understand the people who said oh I can't hear much of Tarja and say that they love Nightwish .. Tarja and Tuomas made nightwish what it is ...her voice and his compositions... they were genre's pionners....
Of course Nightwish evolved over the years and I love Floor and I really appreciate what Anette did (she was lucky enough to be part of the 2 of the best albums)...but you cannot left Tarja aside.
I saw her in may here in Argentina... oh men... she is so amazing and powerful.
Btw...love your analysis!!!!! Keep it coming 🖤🤘🏻
Your reaction gimne a smile everytime. Tarja is an iconic part of my childhood, so giving her some love will always make me happy.
I feel like professional singers, musician and athletes have the same problem. They make seem effortless and easy, people tend to forget how difficult it is to achieve those skills.
Ps. That Gary Moore cover song, is one my favorite NW songs. Tarja does great job on it.
As a Finn I can verify that your second pronunciation (at 2:40) of Tarja is quite perfect.
The whole end of era show is amazing, this song from the show is one of my favorites along with planet hell, ever dream and nemo
more Tarja please, "The Pharaoh sails to Orion" live 2001 from wishes to eternity dvd, and Ghost Love Score V 0.5 named "Beauty *of* the Beast"
and this was a song without keychanges :P
One of the things I love about these older performances is watching all of the band interact in a different space. I’m 63 and Emppu ranks super high on my list as well. As great as a Jimmy Hendrix or an Eric Clapton is, Emppu is a heck of a lot more fun to watch. (That’s why I’m a also a huge Joe Walsh fan). As for the singers, I love all of them. Just FYI, Tarja is sick during this performance, (she’d been battling the flu) so she is a little more breathy in spots. Love this song, great reaction!
They have a song called the siren from the same era, maybe even at this same venue. Give it a listen..
Thank you Eric, ones again! I just love your vocabular artwork - 'finnish army knife'. So awesome! About Tarja's name. All respect to spanish speaking world, but end of the line she is finnish. In Finland there is No argument how Tarja is pronaunced. At time 2:41 you do it perfectly correct (take my word, I have +50 years of native finnish speaking background). Thank you!
I remember some reactors talking about Emppu. "Let's put it this way: he's the only guitarist in a band with massive sound. Yet, have you ever felt there was not enough guitar on a Nightwish song?"
Thank you sir ! Once again with Nightwish, I learn a lot by listening to you.
Greets from Finland.
Pronounced (Tar-ya) , and roll the 'R' if you can.
This is the second song you have done from this show. The High Hopes Pink Floyd tribute was song #8 of 18, Wishmaster was song #10.
And ,of course, it was Tarja's last show. This song really demonstrates her operatic ability.
Other songs from this show to add to the list: Planet Hell, The Siren, the cover of Phantom of the Opera, and the show closer, Wish I Had An Angel.
I Concur x4
Yup, I concur too
i concur every Nightwish Song and live performance eric didn´t react to yet
I concur for Siren. My favorite with Tarja.
Also she sounds so one-dimensional after I've been spoiled with everything what Floor can do.
BTW: you've been pronouncing it better than most.... and it shouldn't be any similar to Maria...
So glad you reacted to this! This is the version of Nightwish that I fell in love with. I was 11 when this was released and they have been my favourite band ever since. Being able to grow up and change while Nightwish also grew and changed has been an absolute pleasure.
Your point about competitive tempo is really interesting! It's an element of Tuomas' compositions that is incredibly satisfying to experience, because it can go out of control so easily but with Nightwish it just resolves without sounding messy.
I can't stress enough how much you meen to me when you describe music 💙💛
And you make me so happy when I see that you understand the difference between Nightwish then and now.
The way Tarja came in as an operasinger, was sooo new in the world of metal. Intriguing, gothic, femalefronting, demanding, self-esteem and feminine. All in One. Although, in my opinion, sins I now can compere with Floor...a bit less colorful with her pallet.
Much Love to you and Ukraine 🌻🌻🌻💙💛💙
I was introduced to Nightwish through the Century Child album, in fact I bought the CD without even listen to it because I liked the cover of it! In fact I did a simmilar thing with a Blackmores Night album and it worked out perfectly for me and I thought why not do it again and boy what did this album got me into! Although I will not concider myself as a hardcore fan I follow the band and their history eversince. I had the plesure to see Nightwich with Tarja live suporting act was Afterforever with a very young Floor Jansen. So the first thing I heard from them was with Tarja and it was very difficult to hear them with a different singer. I love the old stuff same as the new songs. Tarja was and still is a great singer!
One of Tuomas’s earliest compositions. I think your second pronunciation of Tarja was spot on from hearing it said by other Finns, TAR’-ee-ah, emphasis on first syllable, with just a hint of that second syllable, almost running together into 2 syllables, but not quite. You might want to check out Wish I Had an Angel from this show, her last song with the band. Interesting knowing the circumstances that the audience and Tarja didn’t know. Keep exploring Nightwish!
I love your praise the the guitarist known as Emppu, Eric...he's so overlooked. He doesn't need to tap and thread long solos...He could, but there's no point. Every solo he performs fits perfectly into each NW song... 😁
Well said dude! This is why so little, if any, musicians can capture the NW sound in a cover!
Excellent reaction!
Best wishes from Namibia
Tarja was a phenomenal vocalist as well. I'm sure no one has suggested this, but Lindsey Stirling and Amy Lee just released a new song together called "Love Goes On And On".
As I said before, prior to Nightwish my favorite bands were Pink Floyd and Dream Theater but when Nightwish appeared on the scene it is like everything came together to create musical perfection! I instantly blown away and in love :) I'm really happy when ppl like you discover this musical chest of wonders. Great reaction as always Eric! They are all masters of their craft but I'd say of all of them Empuu is probably the most underrated musician cause Nightwish isn't so dependent on guitar as instrument as most metal bands are. But he is definitely a master and his riffs are among the best and I never heard him miss a single note live! And what can one say about Jukka, one of my favorite drummers ever, his patterns are so creative and good, his style and energy unique, out of all members that left Nightwish I miss him the most, even more than Marco, which is probably sacrilege to say :)
Great performance and a great reaction.
this whole show is such a hard thing to watch, both literally and figuratively. knowing it was the final show of this incarnation of Nightwish makes it hard to watch, but knowing it was the final show of this group at the time and how absolutely perfect most of the songs were. I am not a Tarja(Tar ya) fan but i can appreciate what she brought to these early songs. It was also the end of a different era, in that when they came back after the singer change, Empu returned with his signature purple EV-1 guitar and never played another one after that!!! love it and love your take on it as always.
For me, this song is a Tarja song. This voice introduced me to symphonic metal many years ago. Today, I am not such a big fan of her tone of voice anymore but I still loooove these old Nightwish tracks. I also really like Floor’s versions of the old songs but to me they are more like additional versions instead of replacements.
tarja my day dream girl that time (and still are ) thanx to this great reaction and have wonderful day and soon weekend. in that era, if tarja going miss universe contest, she win for sure. if nightwish going eurovision song contest they song sleepwalker they sure win :) they pick up nina alhström a little bit song there and it was disaster :) emppu and jukka was less happy that they kick tarja out of the band,it was marko and tuomas choise.
Missed you, man! Thoughtful reaction! The entire concert is freaking *intense* bc the entire band knows they are firing Tarja (Tar-Yuh but roll the R making it sound like tar-y-yah) and the future is not clear...they all brought it!
Thank you for calling our Emppu's playing! He is often overlooked and underrated. He's a black belt in perfecting a mood!
And Karate blackbelt too 😄
@@bastet197 Is it karate? I thought it was one of the other martial arts...?
I'm fostering a litter of 4 boy kittens that I named Kai and Jukka (a bonded pair who will be adopted together), Marko, with an all white face...who's staying w me! And the runt, who runs around and pounces and screams...thats Emppu!
@@amygoodson-catlady Someday I'll have a Golden retriever girl and I'll definitely call her Floor 🥰
@@amygoodson-catlady Judo was his sport as a child, from 9 years old to 20 years old. Won two youth Finnish championships and a bronze medal in the Nordic championships.
Emppu 😍❤️
And of course this is a Tarja song. Sounds best with her on vocals.
And guitar playing aside, he's also the embodiment of wholesomeness. All that nice, cute, and fun stuff he does on stage is pure gold!
Hehe I can't help it, the best misheard lyrics;
Hamster - a dentist - hard porn Steven Seagull. Warrior - this rifle - in me the fishmaster 😂😂😂
I concur! 🤣
I concur.
I concur
"Hamster! A dentist! Heartworm! Steven Seagull. Furrier! The Cyborg! In me, the Fishmaster!"
Thanks for yet another warm bath of understanding and in-depth analysis.
Regarding Emppu: what I really admire about him is his restraint. He could shred every song to pieces. He could dominate every tune if he'd want to. He doesn't. He supports, he decorates, and with just the perfect touches that you'd miss is if they weren't there. Once he lets loose you see his terrifying skill, but most of the time he is a functional and fundamental part of the soundscape without showing off. Which is admirable with his level of skill. I guess that is what makes Nightwish Nightwish: the entire band is there for the song, the story, and the experience. Not for their egos.
Thank you again for this great analysis. It's nice to see these Tarja era reactions.
I hope you do a reaction video to this old classic cover : Nightwish - Walking in the Air. ruclips.net/video/9icKP1b44TA/видео.html
The original song is from the British Christmas time animation.
Fantastic reaction as always. You are spot on. Hejsan..svejsan from Sweden.😃" Emppu is a finish army knife of metall guitarr."😉
Actually Wismaster album was released around 2000 or 1999. After that came Century Child in 2002 and in 2004 was released the album Once. This concert was in 2005.
First time I heard this, I found myself thinking half way through, "Man this is giving me real Iron Maiden vibes", and then Emppu ends with that "The Trooper" riff, lol. And this song being a "Misheard Lyrics" classic can not be overstated. I love this song and this performance of it. And Marko's bass riffage during Emppu's solo @6:30 ... PRICELESS!
I know you commented on their version of Over the Hills and Far Away, you should really check out them doing it live from the END OF AN ERA show, I think it was the closing song of the show and it's special! especially Jukka who does some pretty nifty work from behind that kit, he's going 100 mph back there for the entire song and I absolutely love watching him play , he's another one who is vastly underrated as a drummer, he does some amazing things with his kicks, in my opinion he also doesn't get the appropriate credit he deserves for how good he really is and has been his entire career! Don't get me wrong, I love Kai and his own flare and style, but Jukka will always be my favorite drummer with his exaggerated movements and facial expressions, he has such a natural groove to his drumming, he's a true showman and you can see how much he genuinely loves what he does, he will forever be missed on stage with them. there's also a newer version out with Floor with a lot of fun photos from the band that they've collected over the past few years, it's fun to see how much fun they have with each other on and off stage. Just five cool dudes with their sister, which is how they actually feel about it and have said as much in interviews.
For Tarja (Tar rolled r-Ya) now, Her version of Sleeping Sun with the guys of Steve N Seagulls: ruclips.net/video/bYZb9qIGLcg/видео.html
I've seen fans joke that NW travels with a separate 18 wheeler for Emppu's picks because he tosses so many of them during a show. Somewhere in South America during the 48 hours dvd, Tuomas peals off the hand written setlist to give it to some guy in a wheelchair, and during the First Floor GLS comes in early from the intermission to give out some water (The place is notoriously hot).
Some great fun info, thanks. I concur, on the Sleeping Sun suggestion, but would love to see him do that one from this concert first
Concur on that Sleeping Sun!
Nowadays I think Jansen wipes the floor with young Tarja, but in the early 2000s, such competition didn't exist. Tarja produces a very unique sound that I call the "haunting note", it just made the music instantly stick to people's memory.
Umm, she doesn't.
A fine example of Emppu's skills. We all know that he has the ability to shred...he just doesnt see the need and stays within the songs pace. All around great performance. All around great reaction.
This was the first Nightwish song I ever heard back in 2001. I thought the music was great but just didn't think I liked the vocals. They stuck with me though. I heard Wish I Had an Angel in late 2004 - early 2005. I was amazed by that song and by the second time listening to it I knew it was the band my friend Brian had played for me 3 years before. I could kick myself for missing out on that three years of Nightwish. For me this is one of the top two Nightwish shows behind sometimes Wacken 2013.
A couple other recommendations from this show I don't see in the comments, "Bless the Child" (one of my top 5 Tarya songs) & "Over the Hills and Far Away" (The Gary Moore cover that came across your desk all those years ago. Some of my favorite Jukka drumming.)
As a bonus here is one of the earliest clips of Tarya 16 & Tuomas 17, ruclips.net/video/mNRahGTlE6s/видео.html . Not worth doing a reaction to but If you have time to watch it you might find it enjoyable. Also the guy that introduces Tarya was their music teacher, so I'll I'm betting his pronunciation is reliable. Tuomas is second chair saxophone in case you don't recognize him.
Very enjoyable reaction thankyou keep em coming
Just to dot the i. It is only the *video of Tarja's final concert* that is called "End of an Era". The album as called "Once" and the tour was called "Once upon a tour".
Floor get all the attention.. but this video? For me it's in the top 3 of Nightwish 👌
The End of The Era DVD is an iconic bit of NW history. I mean, every song was performed so well, despite Tarja being sick. The Phantom of the Opera duet is ICONIC. Tarja changes her stage clothes a few times and the mics are also changed to match her outfits. I think this song is what made really appreciate Emppu's guitar playing.
BTW, there is a hilarious Misheard Wishmaster vidoe on YT. I reccomend it for a good laugh! ruclips.net/video/gg5_mlQOsUQ/видео.html
Back when they were young Emppu was much more present in their sound. One the first 4 full albums, I want to say, when pretty much all orchestral tones came from Tuomas' keyboard racks and they were more "classical rock band" sounding. It's just an evolution, and I guess if Tuomas could afford to hire an orchestra for Angels Fall First he would of XD
This was Tarja's final show and the band delivered the immortal letter afterwards. I'd forgotten how good it was. Since Annette and Floor joined the band and expanded what Tuomas has been able write with their different vocal abilities, I haven't looked back. But it's good to remember that Tarja, regardless of what she became, was an excellent singer who brought something special to the band and was part of the birth and something very special. It's good to remember the beginning of what has become something that is so amazing. Thanks again Eric, you really are a brother. I hope the allergies ease bro
Yeah tarja has that classic era of nightwish sound but Anette and Floor have abled the band to grow and go beyond. Sadly i think if Tarja would still be with the band i dont think Nightwish would be as big as they are nowhadays. Tarja has this monotone sound that grows old after awhile.
And in my humble opinion Tarja's lyrical announcing was much better before she went to Germany learn Opera singing. Before that Nemo and such songs were much better sounding. Later in her career sameoldsongs sounded totally different and many times wouldn't understand what she says unless I would've been so totally familiar with the original lyrics. "This rifle, in me, master apprentice". LOL
@@Sumpula Actually, the band never grew so fast as they did with Tarja. With each new release the pretty much doubled their sales and their capacity, and has not been able to do it since. Also keep in mind that social media was non-existant back then. Sure, in terms of absolute numbers, they are bigger than before, but percentage wise the growth has been very minimal but used to increase 100 % with every new album they released with Tarja.
In addition, Tarja's solo career outshines that of any other Nightwish member, so its easy to figure out who played an influential role, and who did not.
Also, many people have it confused with it comes to Tuomas writing. He was never limited due to Tarja's voice. He WANTED her to sing in this particular way, that is why Nightwish born to begin with, based on his own words. Tarja wanted to experiment more and finish her vocal studies, but the intense schedule of Nightwish prevented her. Today, there is nothing Floor can do that Tarja cant, except for the growling.
@@FemaleMetalLover I won't argue with you, we'll just have to agree to disagree lol
@@chrisblinman9150 There is nothing to disagree about, its 100 % facts. Tarja's last show was 11 000, 17 years ago, which is more than 2x their largest show prior to Once. They have had 17 years post-Tarja, and still have not sold more on any CD than Once, and their largest indoor show was at 17 000, thus, barely a growth of 55 %, in 17 years, with two different singers, and 4 different albums, WITH the help of the new revolutionized commercial industry. With Tarja's solo career being the biggest of any post, and current Nightwish member, you do the math.
Emppu gives here are pure ear candy!
Maidens' "The Trooper" riff at the end!
For the longest time, this was the one song that people knew from Nightwish (if they knew any).
Welcome to the first era of Nightwish! 😄 This whole concert is amazing. Here is the link: ruclips.net/p/PLexzLA11Cst2704XTYLt7QPK0LLexdG4P
Nightwish has a very large catalogue. The group's first work was recorded by its founders: Tuomas, Emppu and Tarja. It's an acoustic demo from 1996. Usually people suggest the live performances, which are really wonderful, but if you stick to them, you'll never know many wonderful songs. I will list the band's studio discography, specifying the corresponding vocalists (after Tarja came Anette and then Floor, the current one):
1 - Original demo (1996) - Tarja
2 - Angels fall first (1997) - Tarja - this would be the band's second demo, but it became their first album.
3 - Oceanborn (1998) - Tarja
4 - Wishmaster (2000) - Tarja
5 - Over the Hills and far away (2001) - Tarja - this is an EP with some new songs and some live recordings
6 - Century Child (2002) - Tarja
7 - Once (2004) - Tarja
8 - Dark Passion Play (2007) - Anette
9 - Made in Hong Kong (2009) - Anette - this is an EP with some new songs and some live recordings
10 - Imaginaerum (2011) - Anette
11 - Endless forms most beautiful (2015) - Floor
12 - Human. :II: Nature. (2020) - Floor
I would like to suggest the song "Underneath". It's from Tarja's solo career. It's really a beautiful song. It's a ballad. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/UcjL9W9sPYc/видео.html Thank you!
It's the second name you mentioned.
There is a very well liked "misheard lyrics" fan made video of this song, if you need a laugh.
I enjoy putting this tune on repeat while running dungeons in World of Warcraft.
Don't look! You will forever hear the misheard lyrics.
@@deed5811 Yes, I purposely stay away. I just went and looked up the actual lyrics. Seemed like a better idea 😁
Wow if you think you sound weird, good sir, hold my mouse while I go cry in the corner.. Great content as always!

Great reaction and insight once again. Always makes me happy when Emppu gets recognition for his work. 😊 Someone already mentioned his other (unfortunately ex) band Brother Firetribe, but I'll suggest another song - Indelible Heroes. Feel goog rock. 😊

During Tarja Era, this song was made as Wishmaster-Misheard lyrics... Check it out. It's funny and after that when you hear Tarja sing it ,you hear same misheard lyrics too. Floor sings this one much better with better announcing. And yes it's Tarja not Daria or Darya kinda version. So the ones you gave back to back, it's the latter one. But you don't need to announce the letter J so strongly.
Yep. I can't hear any other words anymore. Everything from hamster to Steven seagal :D
I even love the visuals in the video its just old school internet comedy gold, simple, effective. Just lovable.
Again a great explanation of the holy Trinity and Dual Tempo. You know, I have never noticed it before, but now that you pointed it out, I listened to double kick tempo versus the singing much slower and dragging and realised the clear difference in Tempos - enlightened am I, Tnx :)
Ahhhhhhh some Tarja. Nice
Long time no Nightwish! Glad you did another one. I agree Emmpu is indescribable.. He's my definition of a badass and his tone is the best.
Oh and this is the only song my non metal friends of minimum 30 yo know about! Banger 🤟🏻
Wow, great reaction!
Eric, this reaction was like fresh air and water after the GLS reaction by Geeks Gone Raw Universe. Although that reaction was hilarious and had its merit, I began to doubt my sanity when they said that the song was not at all complex or creative.
Seriously? 🤦🏻♀️ whatever you do, don’t go watch Andy and Alex’s reaction to GLS. It’s even worse.
GGRU was classic. It was so good. Guys tried to sound smart and witty with their "we-know-everything" attitude.
@@ValtteL It was truly strange, but it was their loss. I think that NW family is open minded and respectful even if you do not like the music, but the "knowledge" and "humor" put a lot people off.
@@KristiinaBerg I agree. To me it was so over-the-top ridiculous that it was funny. Like modern version of Monthy Python or something 😀
I feel so spoiled, I got to see Marko sing live only a couple of weeks ago with Northern Kings. I didn’t think I would get to hear him live again.
All hale the REAL TRUE QUEEN 👑 of Nightwish!!!!!!!!, the very beautiful looking and very unique voice of the enchanting TARJA!!!!!!!! 😀👍👍👍👍👍🤘
Emppu is a real artist with a sense od humor. Have you noticed the Iron Maiden "The Trooper" reference in the end of the song?
Love Tarja in this song. I think it's pronounced TAR-YA, two syllables not three. Anyway, I like your reactions and deep analysis! If you want to see some of later Tarja's shows, I strongly advise her cover of "Supremacy" by Muse live in Poland. She's so great there and you can even hear how she developed her lower, chest, rich voice. She's a soprano, but damn, she can hit some alto notes with great richness. Check it out!
hi one of the songs played that night was Wish I Had An Angel. Tuomas and Emppu share a drink of liquid courage for what was to come....
Whenever I see Tarja on stage she moves like one of Gerry Anderson’s creations. Fabulous though her voice may be, I couldn’t listen to more than two of her tracks in succession.
I maintain that he who does not know this song cannot claim to really know NIGHTWISH. "Wishmaster" (the song, but also the album) is idiomatic of the early NIGHTWISH sound. It requires absolute tightness and nigh-virtuoso ensemble between all involved, plus, at the dangerous speed, it is a hell to bring out live. High props to Tarja, as you well noted, for acing this breathless masterpiece. \m/ The song has only been played a couple of times after that day. The more reason to cherish its ultimate recording! It is hard to disagree though, that here we have first and foremost - for once :) - Emppu's showcase par excellence. Always subtle and playing to the songs' strengths, here he is allowed to truly rip - the tongue-in-cheek harmonization on the riff from "The Trooper" he and Marco improvise at the end being just the cherry on top.
Ah End of Era, the letter is written and waiting to be given to Tarja at the end of this concert.
2nd pronunciation. This is one I really find suits Tarja best. Nobody could do this one quite like Tarja.
It's good enough that I can ignore the overly wide, too slow vibrato.
Excellent job!
"Finnish Army Knife" - I love that.
Personally I consider Emppu to be a GOAT, probably better than many who are placed that category.
You're right about Tuomas too - he does that "double tempo" trick quite a lot.
Great song
It's the latter pronunciation 😍 (not Maria style - to be clear)
there is no I in Tarja, and yet , you said it right ....TY!
Try "Creeks Marys blood" of this show I love it and the history behind it.
How to pronounce Tarja Turunen 😅ruclips.net/video/z5KNhcMxrCw/видео.html
At some point you should touch on the ICONIC NIGHTWISH songs, there are a few that are instantly recognizable to Nightwish fans as soon as they hear the first few notes, and I'm sure that a lot of them have been suggested but my personal favorites NEMO, Bless the Child , I Wish I Had an Angel, She is my Sin from Wacken 2013 Slaying the Dreamer, Elvenjig and Elvenpath, Dead Boys Poem, from Buenos Aries, Kiss while Your Lips are still Red, My Walden from Wembley, And of course one of the other big ones The Greatest Show on Earth from Tampere -where Kai does some of his best work behind the drums!

Phonetically, it’s TAR-yah.
Reminds me of certain flavours of Jan Ackerman from Focus
I think the word you are looking for for Empuu is Virtuoso and not aficionado. I understand you were trying to find the word at the time. Also I believe it's called a counter-point when having two different timings happening simultaneously.
TarYa took me a bit too lol
No no, this is not young Marco. For that you need a music video from 1986 ruclips.net/video/HFXcvqgWkHw/видео.html
Jeps - I concur - back in the days - super sound from Marko 👍
I concur!
20-year-old Marko in Wings Of Darkness is something to see. I'd suggest using ruclips.net/video/VimogVM3i9Y/видео.html instead, though. Yeah, there's a bit of Finnish talking over the guitar intro, announcing the band/song, but the video is much more clear.
Marko was 39, a few months shy of 40 (January birthday) at the time of this concert... he was the old man of the group back then, a title he kept until Troy joined. Tuomas would have been 28 almost 29 (he's a Christmas baby), Tarja had turned 28 a couple months previously (August), and Jukka and Emppu were both 27 (April and June b-days, respectively).
@@MsCatstaff Yeah the one you link is better quality but I decided to link the other because of the announcer
Tar(tongue drum roll the "r") ya. Yep, Emppu is spectacular. Jukka and Marko together and on their own. And of coarse Tuomas. Tarja is just terrific...but she freestyles lyrics and notes. Tuomas's music is precise. Tarja is not. It's okay for jazz, but it slightly bothers me. But, always happy to listen to Tarja sing. She was a founder, and the NW "sound" was styled for her voice.
In Finnish names, and words in general, the weight of the pronunciation is always on the first syllable. So the second one of your tries to pronounce Tarja was quite close. =)
"Tar" "yha" is what interviewer spoke
The "very young" Marko must have been still 40 already here since he is actually 57 i think.
Also for throwing the picks into the audience, Emppu does it all the time 😄🤘🏼
He was 39 :)
Thanks for this great reaction. 👍🏼 And yes…Tarja is the Godmother of Symphonic Metal…🤘🏻 Btw the tour is called ‚Once Upon A World Tour‘ ‚End Of An Era‘ is just the title from the DVD. Greetings from Germany. Keep on rocking.
Great reaction! I don't know who said it should be pronounced like Maria, but that doesn't make much sense to a native English speaker. It might make sense to a native Finnish speaker though: in Finnish, accents/emphasis is always on the first syllable of the word and never on the last, so Maria is pronounced quite differently in Finnish. In English the accent is on the i in Maria, in Finnish it's on the ma. In Finnish Maria resembles another Finnish name, Marja, because J is always soft, like Y in English. So to a Finnish speaker: Maria sounds like Marja which sounds like Tarja. To an English speaker, not so much! It's Tar-ya. A lot of people will go on and on about rolling the R just right but come on, not even every single native speaker is able to do it "right", people are different. I think you've been saying all of their names very well and I respect the attention to getting them right!
Did you notice the nod to Maiden at the end?
Emppu bringing the iron maiden vibes
Now go check out the missheard lyrics version. You cant unhear it anymore.
Eric, since you like Emppu's virtuosity, you might be interested in giving this a listen - back in 2007, 11 Finnish guitarists did a compilation album of instrumentals which they wrote. It was definitely different than I expected, but I love it. ruclips.net/video/BSnpPMbNmjI/видео.html
Besides Emppu, names that I recognized on the album include Alexi Laiho and Roope Latvala from Children of Bodom, Esa Holopainen from Amorphis, and Zachary Hietala (yes, Marko's brother) from Tarot.
I like it! A bit of Ravel, some Charo, and Beck in there. I'm shocked it didn't bleed into "Bolero"!
Cheers!
Eric
Timo Tolkki - original Stratovarius lead guitarist and composer. Huge influence on finnish metal scene in the 90s. You can hear Stratovarius basically in every track in Oceanborn and Wishmaster. Stratovarius was really a pioneer band to all finnish metal bands because they opened doors to South America and Japan.
i do so miss the brothers majare
