Thank you for telling your story. You and I had a very similar life path. It is possible to change course and be a more compassionate person, than those before you.
You're right, brother! Most of us have horrible stories from childhood. And it certainly had a huge effect on the way I raised my children. Being a father has, and still is, very fulfilling. Thanks for sharing, Joe! And... I love ya, brother! Trad for life!❤
Thank for sharing Joe, a lot of us have a similar story with drunk or abusive parents and I believe as you, that it helps others when we let them know they are not the only ones to have endured it and to see you break the cycle and love your family the right way speaks volumes. Fred Bear said, “nothing clears a troubled mind like shooting a bow and arrow” but I’ll take it further, being in creation allows us to be in awe of the outdoors but more importantly the Creator! Psalms 34:18
I had a very similar childhood except it was my stepdad who was abusive. I left home at 13 and by God’s grace I have a beautiful family and he restored my relationship with my mother and stepdad. The outdoors was always an escape and I thank God every time to this day that He created it for us. But ultimately only Jesus was able to bring me real peace and he delivered me from my MANY sins. I encourage anyone who reads this to turn to Him for true peace and salvation! 1 Timothy 1:15 CEV - “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” This saying is true, and it can be trusted. I was the worst sinner of all!”
Amen

I always found relief in the outdoors, especially while on the job. I’ve may very few people that I didn’t enjoy in the shooting sports.
