Great Looking bow
That is beautiful wood!! Looking forward to the end result!
Looks is if it's working out for you Joe.
Nice

Nice
Joe. I see u said when u hold the ruler up to each limb to measure limb bending. Put a small clamp on the fade out and stick a ruler in side the clamp to hold the ruler in place. Richard
Practicing on red oak boards trying to make a fire hardened recurve so I'll get it right when I finally get some osage this video will be super helpful thanks
Good going Jim!!! Mighty fine bows!! Glad to see your still at it and doing well. Take care.
Can you not leave the cambion layer on for backing?
Nice jack!
Nice work and bows! Like your table lamp, too! Good shooting and great weekend to ya!
nice joe,, i think with your 27 inch draw that is the results/. recurves big hooks seem to really take off passed 28inch draw...them big hooks start working and speed really increases at 30 31 inch..but that is smoking....but try both bows your bow and ilf bow at 31 inch see what happens?
Nice
Nice encouraging! Thanks.
Super nice bow Joe. You are a good bow maker and you really understand the fire hardened concept. Keep on going man.
Thank you. I appreciate your videos
Fire hardening is awesome! I took an old pecan longbow that I had made for my stepson back in 2003 and decided to jazz it up a bit. When I started it pulled 40# at 26 inch draw and had acquired right at two inches of string follow. I put small recurves on the tips similar to yours. I heat set about two inches of back set it then fire hardened it. Being an older bow and a little shorter than normal I put one layer of sinew backing just to be safe. I haven’t put it on a croon yet but it blew me away how fast it was. It ended up at 39# at 25 inch draw when done and it a little smoker! Never got speed like this on lower pounded white wood before this. Definitely sold out on fire hardening now! Beautiful bow and God bless!
That’s awesome
Wow! That's amazing!! That certainly shows how well your Bowyer skills are proving to produce great results!! I'd have expected that the Self Bows would not have kept up in Performance with lam Bows!! I think you've hit the level of craftsman, Joe!! 🎯
Thank you I was pleasantly surprised.
Awesome BBJ
Ok you got to me! I’m making my first heat treated bow. I am in BC Canada. I cut a wild hazel stave. I carved out the bow and will recurve and heat bow tomorrow.
Good luck! It’s a great wood for a bow.
Looking good Joe! Its only 40°colder here
I really hate the cold😂
Looks good, best of luck with outcome.
Shoots great! Fast
Why don’t you run the rawhide full length?
Nice
Nice bow Joe, i like it!
Looking good 👍
👍🇧🇷👍 LIKE
Really hot thanks!!!😮
Great video. Impressed with the kind of bows you made. You look like you really enjoy making them. And we like seeing them. thank you sir.
Outstanding instructions! Thank you! 👍
Beautiful bow for sure! I appreciate your live tree self bows. Im not a bowyer. But those who lived and died by a bow certainly used live trees and made do with whatever was available. It seems the most traditional form of archery.
Another nice video!
Great test joe.i have learned more from you than anyone.fire hardened is a bit much for me though in the desert where I live wood is too hard to get and too expensive.my only attempt at bow building was a red oak board bow and I broke it.after seeing your hickory bows I'm going to get a hickory stove and try again.many thanks...
Nice
Something I have found to help avoid limb twist is to make sure the grain orientation is even at both tips, running parallel without a curve.
I did look. As I laid out the blank I sighted down the bow like looking down the barrel of a shotgun. I made slight corrections. The bow string is aligned great until drawn back. I heated it with leverage, I steamed it. I removed some material on the opposite side of the belly to try and weaken the opposite side. All of that did help ( a little ) but not perfect. Thank you.
@hunterarcher11 still a beautiful piece! Thank you for sharing your process with us.
I had a very similar jig set up for steam bending my bows tips. I did not have the alignment marks however and always had to either tiller it back to true, or use heat. how long is the bow in total? love the videos btw! thanks for sharing.
Great video thank you!
Will a fixed crawl work for someone who shoots their bow canted?
Nice
Thank you for the video. Always inspirational
Thanks for the video!
Good luck on your next recurve! Maybe when deer season rolls around again I'll be hunting with my own hand made longbow .thank you.!
Has anyone noticed that the stock magnet has 2 notches on one side and 4 on the other?
Recurve looks good! Like your videos you show the good the bad and ugly no sugar coating. Thanks!
Time for another one Joe. Sometimes to get tip alignment you can steam the handle and get your alignment there. Recurves are tough!
I need a break from the cold 😊 maybe in the spring I’ll try another.
Amazing job Joe. Great bow and great shooting. Greeting from Bordeaux, France 🏹
Thank you for the educational input in bow making as such
Hi, great video. Do you have a sketch with dimensions of the bow form? Thank you! ☺️
Finally a good video! Thanks!
Happy new year and great tip
