Love Robert Green's books, im hoping to read them all one day. And as i listened to this video i realized that as a women of 35 yrs, i have been able to have 2 careers that as a child i wanted to be. First i became a cosmetologist right after high school and worked in that industry for 10 yrs but then i had a shift and now i was able to successfully open a Dog walking pet service business and on my way into a dog trainer. Been working with trainers from Cesar Milan, the Dog whisperer, very well known on tv. And, even tho in not a person of high degree on anything, i do believe that motivation, like Robert said, the degree of motivation! and having a goal to reach is so important

My whole thing is that there's so many things that I want to do. A kind man told me pick one thing. At 27 now it can sense how time simply melts by! So if I had more time Id be able to master many things! However time is the constraint and so Im working harder to master consistency in one thing. The only con in this regard is that mastering feels like a compromise to life. When I was a child there was a joy in the simple spontaneous nature to life: everyday was like a new experience. However that doesn't appear to exactly be a career. Or perhaps it is but the answer doesn't appear obvious. So rather than constantly questioning what that life task is or which one to choose, ive made the decision to pick one that ive had since childhood and run with it. My only hope though is that I can enjoy and experience more to life than just that one skill/craft! It may be so that this mastery may in fact be the gateway to experiencing more to life for as you speak of Robert, the brain may have a grand transformation at that 10,000th hour. After all life is one big journey of many perceptions and science appears to steadily suggests that the objective truth is far more mysterious than imaginable! Advice borrowed from multiple sources. It's ok to be a generalist. Mastery is not for everyone, hence why they are called masters. It requires great sacrifice, which the average mortal is unwilling to do. Unless you can pinpoint or prove that you have an above-average talent in something, be content with living an ordinary life, otherwise you will lead a life of misery due to perceived unfulfilled potential. You don't always have to make a choice. If you are interested in multiple things simultaneously and you are struggling to make a choice, open all doors. Some doors will close naturally while others will remain open. Be grateful for the open doors and keep walking through them and don't lament the closed doors.
I read Robert Greene's book "The 50th Law" (with the rapper 50 Cent) when I was in my early twenties, and it had a profound impact on me. And then, somehow, I "settled" in life, working not very fulfulling jobs, as he mentions in this clip. Now ten years later, I am starting to reconnect again with his teachings, and particularly this one about Mastery.

I’ve been practicing and performing the art of magic (professionally) for 15 years. Rigorous/playful study, practice and application. Extremely complex.
I only found my master 2 years ago. We started on zoom, then went in person. This message is to say that finding the right master can CHANGE EVERYTHING.
I was already considered very very good by my peers- but finding my teacher is making everything EXPONENTIAL.
I guess the biggest lesson is that I’m nowhere near my peak- and have barely started a journey. Please find the right master!!

His capacity to divulge his personal ( yet universal) human emotion and vulnerabilities is the most genuine and generous expression of love to fellow humans I’ve observed. What beautiful advice. I was hooked on every bit of advice. My two cents is this; we often fail to reach our true potential because we tend to play it safe. We want to have options if something doesn't work out. So we never really fully commit. But life is a high-stakes game, none of us is getting out of this alive. You need to put all your chips on the table or don't start at all.

@@FantasmaOlvidado1 Robert Greene talks about a natural inclination which is spawned at a young age, try pursue something remotely related to it. Learn to work on this pursuit ALOT, but first try grasp why it is fascinating, why it is meaningful and how it can be adapted to improve something. If you are willing to do this thing day in day out, even when it is boring, when you are rewarded you will be even more motivated to continue, and even more fascinated, until it snowballs into something much larger. But try understand you are not chasing the reward, you are chasing the continual process which builds and should try seek pleasure from this path. Also, try to still avoid procrastination, it can divert your pursuit and maybe even make you doubt the power behind it, just be careful though because productive thinking is always good - there is a difference though. It can be a struggle too, but accomplishments and learning something new is what keeps this motivation going, it can be problematic according to neurochemistry.

Be careful because most autistics have a well reasoned fear of ABA therapy. It’s one thing to use the basics of working to use the iPad or working to go somewhere that a disabled child enjoys, but the majority of ABA is like conversion therapy and it’s brutal. It involves these very invasive technicians coming over into a home and Invading a personal space of a family. Taking things that are beloved and what an autistic child enjoys ,away from them! ABA has become an industrial complex. Notice how all the technicians to come around are always “entry-level” what’s the next step? There isn’t one. It’s CEOs making a lot of money off of Autistics.And it all feeds off of the cure myth.
@@SlimeOhImAI is never going to be able to go into the human brain. At least not in our lifetimes! The majority of autistics have neurons that didn’t pruned the way that Neuro typical people’s neurons prune at around 20 to 22 months. There are a variety of reasons why this doesn’t happen. It can be environmental, chemical, or hereditary. The point is to look for it as early as possible. But this conversion behaviorism stuff isn’t helping. We now have the first extended generation of autistics on social media, saying that not only is ABA therapy emotionally horrendous but it’s physically harmful as well. I’m not saying that there shouldn’t be a reward system for learning and enjoyment out of learning. Because all of us are working to get things by the fact we work, but that’s not the same as what ABA does. Basic good parts of ABA can be talked to a parent or a para educator and only a weekend. It doesn’t need to be years and years of these weird invasive creepy people from the schedule organizations coming around. I can’t wait till it’s phased out completely. Sorry.😊

@@getTheSchmack from inspiration terms . Try to ask yourself alot of question to sole preffrence , what do you enjoy looking/hearing/feeling , experiement with sketches . Theres also detachment to be able to lessen doubts , reserch in a fun way from history of why we dress like this etc then learnin about anatomy how to draw body height and proportions if you dont have the means to do fashion classes pintrest and youtube will be your best tutors . If you have relatives or freinds who have fashion designers in the fam or connections have intern work, resilience and having a thick skin helps alot due to the fact we too have alot of critics not just from inside its all around just because we have our own ideas and styles made/drawn / presented . Marketing , client etc reserch is added to the selling part theres got to be a balance of creativity,innovation and versitility in the work but also cater to the people not just your target client. The masses are shy try to appeal to them as a start but dont lose your mind

People have always dubbed me as weird or crazy, and somehow i knew it was just because I was not trying to imitate anyone. Because of that, I was able to write and teach successfully. Doing so long enough, people end up either angry or proud. Every new task, it starts all over again, except you learn to discern who is just trying to bring you down, and who is qualified to offer constructive feedback.

i dont agree about seeing the mentors as a stepping stone. come on robert.. you said you wrote that book in part to do something different from 48 laws. its like that mentality is leaking into mastery. dont get me wrong.. it CAN happen. but its not the rule

Tfw you find apprenticeship in everything because every authority that you've encountered probably never felt like they needed to look into the entirety of their mannerisms in being authoritative with everything that encompasses their field. People bitch that I'm complacent when I'm just autistic. If so, they don't have the right to bitch about anything at a global scale 💯

When motivation runs out, discipline takes over. Discipline is a why and a habit.
Robert’s comment about not liking working in a large corporation is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
I am a senior citizen and have been retired for 12 years. I spent a good portion of my career working for subsidiaries of large corporations and also some time actually working in the headquarters of large corporations and from my experience it basically sucks - I found nothing positive about being in that kind of environment.
It is brutal and very Darwinian - the survival of the most politically astute and the best Brown Noser. And don’t fool yourself: if the corporation, especially those that are publicly traded and have shareholders and Wall Street to answer to, needs to reduce headcount to make their quarterly numbers, if they think eliminating your job will help them meet their goals then you will be out the door before you know what hit you. That happened to me twice.
And, it’s nothing personal, it’s just business (to quote a famous line from “The Godfather”).
The only saving grace for me was my last job before I retired at age 58 was at a subsidiary of a publicly traded company and fortunately for me they did very well and were very generous with the stock options they gave their employees. I didn’t exercise any of my stock options until right before I retired and by then they were worth a lot of money. The options were what allowed me to get out of the corporate rate race at age 58 and I am very, very grateful for that!

Eventually we are all screwed in the end. And im not even talking about death, but I suppose that could be said in any event. I love Robert's writing and material, but the truth is 99.9 % of the planet are forced to work for a career we don't like for various because we all need money. If you have the luxury of time amd money you can take your time. Reminds me of the movie where the currency was literally time. I think it's called "In Time". I'm a realist. This is why the movie "The Matrix" still applies today and will always apply. We are all forced to be here and then have to go by the rules of the system. A lot of people want an escape. Hence why there are soo many suicides and druggies and alcoholics etc. I suppose I could probably be a writer because I think deeply about life and have a lot of knowledge and ideas. My book would probably be depressing and nobody would buy it. Perhaps I should give it a go.

You’re assuming of people follow their unique inclinations they will be successful by 40. In my own experience, not true. But I didn’t have close friends to tell me I was creating shitty content. 😂 or maybe I thought the resistance to following my truth was my truth…it’s really hard to be original these days. Even your most famous book was basically compiling what other people did into principles. Is that what you mean by being original?
I did like his 48 laws of power. But I don’t agree with everything he says in this interview. Doing what you love for me has kept me in poverty and I was bankrupted. To be successful in life you need both money and skills (yes I agree with the skills and taking a job that you can learn from) and it’s irrelevant if you love those things or you don’t. Because they matter. And no I don’t have a voice and never had one, that says I should be doing this etc. I am starting a charity not because I love it but because I don’t want to live in a society whereby people are going to keep being exploited by large corporations and government policies.
Oh, it's just soo wrong. My all time favorites were languages. Now translators, interpreters are being replaced by AI. The profession is disappearing. My education is becoming worthless...so what use is it for me to know that I followed my path, that I can understand podcasts on different languages? This podcast...You can only be guided by your natural inclinations to a certain point...otherwise you have to follow trends. Next - no one wants "creative" plumber. Please let him just "do the job' traditionally.
