  • Given the lead contamination found in chili-containing candies imported from Mexico, twenty-five hot sauces were tested for heavy metals.

    Wow... mexican candy, hot sauce, rice, and pot!? There goes my weekend cuisine. You're really coming for me Dr. Greger.

  • @mrbr549

    I'll put hot sauce on my rice! The hot sauce will kill the arsenic, and at the same time that will dissipate the lead. (I know, wishful thinking.)

    • @adamaj74
      @adamaj74 7 лет назад +7

      Not only that, but the arsenic and lead will combine to form a super-vitamin (containing vitamins A, B2, B6, B12, C, D, E, K, etc., all of them!) at 100% RDA levels!

    Everyone need to calm down. Dr. Greger understands that we all will have to live with a level of contamination because we are living with it now. The purpose of these videos is to inform the consumer about what he/she is consuming, and therefore, we all can make informed decision about our food, interim of how is made, grown etc. Dr. greger is not attempting to put fear in us but educate about the food industry. I thank him for sharing his knowledge through his research findings. I will continue to consume brown rice. I cook my brown rice according to the recommendation. I will continue to eat hot peppers, hot sauce, and cayenne powder, modify how I prepare them, but I am enjoying life, not viewing these studies as "oh no" I cannot eat anything...

      Agree... I'd rather know than not know. The information can be useful especially when you continue to learn a lot and put things together. Who knows, some kind of innovation may come to mind to prevent all of this as a result of absorbing such information.

    I wouldn't freak out. If you pause it on the study list of hot sauces they are almost all made in Mexico. It could be vessels they use to cook or process the sauce, or tainted water used in the sauce and/or for washing, growing the peppers. Look for a sauce made in America? Sriracha by Huy Fong Foods is made in California with American grown peppers

    The good thing is it's easy for anyone to make these hot sauces, hot peppers and tomatillos are some of the cheapest fruits at the store, I usually buy 10 cherry peppers for 80 cents. One or two adds enough heat to a dish.

      Homemade salsa is the bomb! People don't realize you can just add peppers and spicy spices to make their food spicy. I like spicy tamarind candy. I keep a stash of the extra spicy pulparindo in my house at all times. But I don't eat them all the time. Once a week or even months apart. I like others but those are the least expensive.

    in sweden the goverment agency involved with food is just saying as long as you eat a variety of foods this is not a problem.
    but i guess they haven't been educated since 1970. one other thing that is fun with that goverment advice is that most fruit of today doesn't even have close to the same nutriciant they had i 1970. one test revealed a lemon had no c vitamins at all.

      Hi natureasintended, that's a good point. However, fresh chillies are very expensive here and supplies limited, so I usually use dried chilli flakes or powder - which can't be rinsed.

      Lift Strong That is really stupid. They have to keep increasing the population because it drives the economy. This is why when birth rates decline to levels that they should be naturally, at a high quality of life - the government decides the best thing to do is to import hundreds of thousands of illiterate, non-English speaking useless migrants who will add literally nothing of value to society and be nothing but a drain on the economy and a natural security issue.

    • @EgadsNo
      @EgadsNo 7 лет назад

      Regulation sometimes protects corporations more than consumers, the only power regulation has is taken from the judicial branch in actuality. For example if the government says its safe for people to produce food with * level of whatever, and that ends up making people sick, they cannot seek recourse in a court because the regulation is the government declaring * level of whatever lawful.

    • @natureasintended
      @natureasintended 7 лет назад

      In one of his Q & As, Dr.Greger explained its all about profit, rather than an intention to make people sick. The lead in the soil happens to end up on chilis. They aren't putting it there deliberately.
