Norway Road Trip to Briksdalsbreen & Loen Skylift, 4k

- In October we made the last trip in the 2020 season to the beautiful Briksdalsbreen glacier in Jostedalsbreen National Park and went up to 1011 meters at Loen Skylift. Loen Skylift has a gradient up to 60° and is one of the steepest in the world.
We made 1230 km in our round trip. During the first day, we visited the beautiful village in mountains - Skjeringsdalen and camped for the night near lake Oppstrynsvatn. The next morning greeted us with fog coming from the sea and packed between high mountains along the lake.
During the second day, we took a ride to Lovatnet to enjoy autumn colors at this spectacular lake and take a ride on Loen Skilift. After a night at Nordfjord, we went to lake Olden and further to parking near Briksdalsbreen and took a walk to the glacier. Autumn was already there and the closer to the glacier the stronger was the feeling of upcoming winter.
On the way back we enjoyed the sunset at the river Stryneelva and camped near river Finna.
We tried to drive as fast as possible as strong wind hurried winter to us with freezing winds and snowfalls.
#Briksdalsbreen
Briksdalsbreen is one of the most accessible and best-known arms of the Jostedalsbreen glacier. Briksdalsbreen is located in the municipality of Stryn in Vestland county, Norway. It is located inside Jostedalsbreen National Park. Briksdalsbreen terminates in a small glacial lake, Briksdalsbrevatnet, which lies 346 meters above sea level.
#Loen Skylift
Loen Skylift is an aerial tramway in Loen in Stryn, Norway. The cable car climbs 1,011 meters the top of Mount Hoven, above the Nordfjord. The maximum speed is 7 meters per second. With a gradient up to 60°, it is one of the steepest in the world. The building process started in 2015, and it was inaugurated by Her Majesty Queen Sonja of Norway on 20 May 2017. The costs of the construction work total 300 million NOK.
#Lovatnet
Lovatnet is a lake located in Loen in Stryn municipality in Western Norway. What makes Lovatnet so beautiful is the green color that comes from the meltwater from the glaciers that lie on the mountain peaks around.
Lovatnet has multiple streams from the Jostedals glacier and drains at Loelva to the fjord. The lake has an area of 10.4 sq. km., it is 11 km long and it is 52 meters above sea level.
#Finna Elva
Finna is a river that has its source from the lake Råkåvatnet and flows through Finndalen, Skårvangen, Skogbygda, Vågåmo and out into the Otta River, just below the mouth of Vågåvatnet. In Finndalen, Finna meanders in meandering turns and has formed many old crooked lakes.
#Oldevatnet
Oldevatnet is a lake in the municipality of Stryn in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the valley of Oldedalen. The lake covers an area of 7.9 square km and has a length of about 12 km. The river of Oldeelva flows from Oldevatnet via the lake of Floen to Innvikfjorden, a branch of Nordfjord.
#Oppstrynsvatnet
Oppstrynsvatnet is a lake in the municipality of Stryn in Vestland county, Norway. The lake has an area of 22.87 sq. km. and is surrounded by many large mountains and glaciers which feed into the lake. The main outflow of the lake is the river Stryneelva which flows west into the Nordfjorden.
#Stryneelva
Stryneelva or Strynselva is a river in the municipality of Stryn in Vestland county, Norway. It has a length of about 8 km, starting from the lake Oppstrynsvatn, assuming a meandering course through the Strynedalen valley and reaching the Nordfjorden at the village of Stryn. The river is among the best salmon rivers in Norway.
