To The Apocalypse In Daddy's Sidecar - Abney Park - Steampunk Music

- Anticipating the worst, and father and his young daughter head out into the nothing between major cities, to avoid the coming atomic attack. This is the music video for Abney Park's "To The Apocalypse In Daddies Sidecar", featureing Captain Robert as himself, and Chloe Brown, his daughter, as herself.
When Chloe was in pre-school, her teacher asked her, "If you could go anywhere in the world right now, with anyone, where would you go?".
Chloe replied, "To The Apocalypse in Daddy's Sidecar!" - Видеоклипы
Look, you don't have to listen in order. If you want to summon Cathulhu, that's your business.
Admire this comment! 🐙🤘
Chloe's answer to her teacher's question is quite possibly the greatest answer to a question, ever.
After rewatching this video for YEARS (like ... 5k+ times!!! No cap!), it STILL makes me cry aching for my own children to care for me anywhere THIS MUCH! (Especially knowing the backstory behind the song!)
A musical masterpiece!
Awesome job Robert, & the quip from Chloe to her teacher was a gem. When I lived in Phoenix, a family with a precocious 3 yr old lived next door. I play guitar & write songs, myself-though at this point, I'm focused on other things. I'd sit outside & play, and this kid would come & listen. As I was leaving one day, he said wait, came back with a little piano, garish shades, & started banging out notes. He looked up grinning & said, "The Steel Speaks." Kids can nail you with a word or two.

Why is Steampunk so awesome? The more i watch the music videos the more i want to become a Steamie.
Trust me the amount of cool nods and complements you get are awesome.
Oh yeah, the stuff I was gonna say: this song and video makes me think of me and my daughter. (she's 7) And I've actually had daydreams similar to this video. (minus the explosions and such) Captain, you and your daughter are so cute together. its so cool that this song was her idea, and that you actually made the song real for her.
There is nothing that says you have to listen to songs in order, but there is a series of novels, and the songs are connected to chapters of the novel. So perhaps the rumor is based around that.
How does this not have 100,000,000 views?
That girl is raised right. I tip my hat to any father who can raise such an awesome child
I cannot tell you how much this feels like taking my kids camping. It was always the trip not the destination that mattered.
The other half told me to check this song out because it reminded him of the childhood stories I shared with him about riding in my stepdad's sidecar, or slidecar as he liked to call it, on winding mountainous roads.
It was home built with suspension and a boot in the back that he would put a bag of cement in whenever I was the passenger. When asked why he needed the cement, I learned it was balast to keep the wheel on the ground.
I asked how often the wheel was off the ground, he asked me how often the ride felt smooth. My reply was that is was smooth most of the time. He then told me, with a chuckle, that that was because the wheel was off the ground most of the time.
Fabulous job captain! Chloe, keep giving your dad good ideas! You're a little genius! =D
Jesus, I only discovered you guys about two or three years ago (and suffered a heartbreaking depression on my birthday when the driver skipped ALL of your songs and only listened to what everyone ELSE in the car wanted to listen to!) but I already know the lyrics to almost ALL of your music and STILL listen to an album daily. (Much to the displeasure of my roommate, who doesn't enjoy your music at all... Makes me sad, it does.)
Keep on being amazing!
This is pretty much how I pictured it! Also, you can never deny that little girl, she is the spitting image of you!
Captian Robert you and Chloe had WAY too much fun shooting this
Cap'n Robert, your navigator can probably pilot the bike and you can ride in the sidecar. 😉 A thousand blessings to you.
I love playing my air violin. Can't get enough of Steam Punk!
oh man i wish i could have seen that parent teacher conference LOL please say you showed up in steampunk garb
once upon a time my son was 5. After school his teacher told me that he was telling strange stories and she was worried about him. "Apperently he spend the weekend walking in a forest, killing cats. After some people told him it was not nice to kill cats he went to his parents to ask them what to do. So his parents told him it was far better to kill cow and sheep to skin. Mum was quit happy with the skinning stuff, and she made nice clothes for dad with it." I told the teacher it was correct what he said, and that I was very happy with the clothes and we even sold the rest of the leather for some nice gold. after that I walked away. I didn't feel like it was my job to explain to his teacher what World Of Warcraft was.
@@bertptrs the way that culture is shaped by ouer crave for recreation as much like for survival is one hell of a glorious effect.
Hoppe that story is from when classic not been degraded into retail yet , leeting him have a taste of true mmorpg without any invisible walls , phasing seperating players or that other stuff that makes retail soft of lack luster for many these days ^^
@@bertptrs you had us in the first half, not gonna lie
@@nope8827 dang it i was beaten
The story behind the song really made me love it.
Those who say "YOU NEVER see a motorcyclist wave with their right hand" obviously don't know any motorcyclists who ride on a regular basis...or riders who go long distances. There's this thing called cruise control...yeah, motorcycles have that also and if it doesn't it's easy to install. :)
And in a steampunk bike with a side seat, you'd think cruise control would be there somewhere
Michelle Lehto lol... on that old Dnepr?
Not a Dneper...but that horse has been beat to death. For your next assignment you will be required to identify an XS750 in a yard full of triumph's and BSA's.
Or just pull the clutch on the left, heh.
Well, you are an airship pirate after all! ;-)
Chloe's answer to that question is AWESOME! That's so cool that the song was inspired by her :]
Great.
Very awesome vid. When the missiles were being launched, all I could think of was the description of the vast corn fields being set aflame in Robert McCammon's amazing book, "Swan Song." It's a fantastic read. Chloe is ADORABLE! Looooove it!
I love the smile of the little girl ♥
Omg this has the cutest backstory EVER. I love it.
The Apocalypse is remarkably well-paved. :o]
You'll note the apocalypse is at the END of the video.
You can recognize it by all the balls of fire. ; )
robert brown I love the fact that your daughter was the inspiration for the song and video. My daughter wants to know if she is in any other videos besides this one and the circus at the end of the world. We both would like to know if Abney Park will be playing in New England area anytime soon. For we would love to see you guys in concert.
Mostly with good intentions.
For proper apocolyptic roads, come to Kansas.
Another great hit as always, never disappointing, Semper Fidelis!
I grew up on my dad's bike too! All across the country and back!
It sweet that she actually "got what she wanted". She sort of did get to go to the apocalypse in her daddy's sidecar. ^^
What i find that is pulling my heart strings is this song and music video here might just winding up predicting the future of the world at the moment.
Catchy song, and Chloe's such a lovely little girl.
ending with airship - best part of clip.
Holy Crap!I love love love this song! How could anybody NOT like this song?
Came across this whilst wandering around RUclips and LOVE IT. Thank you for my first introduction to Steampunk xx
You also may like Steam Powered Giraffe. I'd suggest "Malfunction"
Cool story to a great song! I would have loved to see the face of the teacher after that answer.
As a parent I must say this is amazing.
For anyone wondering what boots Captain Robert has in this video, it is New Rock model M.313 or similar.
Thanks for the info. I shall have to look for a pair or two. They look very comfy.
This must be the only music video I've ever seen that turns nuclear war into an adventurous ride in the country with the kids ...
SouthernChopper the backstory behind this song goes like this:
My daughter, in preschool, was asked by her teacher “if you go any one place with anyone, where would you go?” My daughter replied “to the apocalypse in daddies sidecar.” It was so iconic a statement, I HAD to write a song about it.
@@abneypark Ahh now I understand. It's a beautiful song and thank you - I've actually been listening to a lot of your music. I like how you merge music instruments from all over the world and actually make it work!
Oh - one more thing: be sure to check out, from my part of the world, a movie called "Mortal Engines". It's been a flop at the box office, but an awesome, steampunk film nonetheless. And if Abney Park ever make it to New Zealand, head on over to Oamaru, steampunk capital and an awesome annual get-together. All the best for the season to you and yours. :)
I just heard the story told by robert on the new 5 disk compilation Anachronomicon! considering the creative awesomeness she is exposed to all the time, Im not too surprised. great video!
Captain Robert an his daughter... So precious...
Ashley Warren Please learn to spell your accusations properly and read video descriptions. Thanks.
ouch. I will need some ointment for that burn.
I love that I recognize every place in this video.
Just been recommended to listen here by Melanie Jackson, our favourite author. Wow. more!
He is riding our bike! Its a Dnepr/Ural
And this is why I love this band. You guys have made my day!
The image of Ophelia at the end gave me tingles.
This song makes me dance whenever and wherever I am. Great tune.
Chloe has the coolest dad in the world! She is so Lucky!
Good job, Chloe! Welcome to the "dad named a song after the shit we said in preschool" club! :D
Chocolate Rocketship, mothafuckas. :3
u r proudly sick
so as i
Possible the most underrated band on UTube, IMO.
Inspiring, Imaginative, and haunting... LOVE IT!!!
I know you are, but what am I?
whaaaat
Amazing how you were able to blend the chilling with the comforting so seamlessly! Kudos - a new favorite!
My daughter (3 and a half) and I sing along to this song all the time. Love this song and Love Abney Park!
This is most amazing video I ever seen. I LOVE it as I was girl without a father growing up and to know someone have a father that they love so much wanna be on sidecar on a journey.
Chloe and Cap'n, Frakin' Awesome Video! We love it!!!!!!!!!!! Keep up the great work. I'm passing this along to all of my friends. This is awesome!
Damn, now I want Ural too! My unkle had one ages ago... 40 HP engine, that was a crazy power for a motorcycle back then.
Had no idea the video was canon. Well done, Sir!
i think i responded somewhere else,,,,,i love it,,, captain, you are acting so determined and chloe i having so much fun,,,,,,you and kristina are great parents and chloe and isabella are so fortunate !!!
If you read the novel The Wrath Of Fate the airships crows nest is broken off in the final battle.
~ Captain Robert
Such a awesome music video and Chloe that was a most beautiful thing to say
See... I just watchedit again.. and got all excited seeing the airship there... Fantastic..
Still one of my favorite songs the group has done!
Really cool vid, Captain. And that answer Chloe gave was awesome especially from a (i'm guessing) 3-year-old girl. I can't imagine how everyone responded to that. Coz I would've laughed.
Very cute father daughter music video.
I absolutely and utterly LOVE this song and video!!!!! Is that the Ural motorcycle? want one so bad... saw a guy on one just the other day, it was so epic. His Ural was flat black, bull horns mounted above the headlight, leather suitcase on the rear fender, sidecar, and the guy was even dressed perfectly for it and sounded Australian.
Love the airship standing by with rope ladder at the ready, well done!
Chloe will be forever young in daddy's video... what an awesome memory.
Your daughter is beautiful! If she came to WWWC2, we would've gotten along so well for being Steampunk children. Your guys' concert was amazing! If I remember correctly her name's Isabella, I believe.
^-^ Thoroughly enjoyable. Excellent job, Cap'n! Hoping you and your little princess have many more adventures with the Ophelia...
Looks just like her daddy :) Lovely family you have Cap'n!
His daughter's response is awesome
Lovely story. Epic ride.
hi captain robert your music got me into steampunk. thanks man
CHLOE IS SO ADORABLE!!!
Absolutely perfect!Genius! This song is like a drug. You can`t get away from it!
that is a badass thing for a pre schooler to say
To the Apocalypse in Daddy's Sidecar (оригинал Abney Park)
I've got three wheels and a frame of rust
Blue skies above, and behind us dust
Half a tank of gas won't carry us far,
But you're safe till apocalypse in Daddy's sidecar
Got shotgun shells and twelve cans of beans,
And an old stuffed doll coming 'part at her seams
Your little lace dress you've worn for too far
As you watch the apocalypse from Daddy's sidecar
Life once had us held far too confined
We've left job and school far, far behind
You chew your gum as I chew my cigar,
As you ride the apocalypse in Daddy's sidecar
We swam the whole day in oasis pool
The shades beneath the palms became our home-school
We danced past bed time at a desert bazaar,
Now you nod your head in Daddy's sidecar.

This video reminds me of "Footfall" by Niven and Pournelle, especially when it shows the incoming rocks falling all around the motorcycle.
Great video Captain. With you and your daughter as yourselves, it made the video seem all natural which is fantastic..
Dude.. Captain Robert.. COOLEST. DAD. EVER. :D
I find the quote by Chloe to be awesome, what a statement so profound! a talented family indeed. You must be a proud father
Superb piece of music Capt'n, long may it continue.
Thanks for posting and creating such a great piece of work.
So beautiful and apocalyptic I love it played it 3 times a row
thought i was only current fan
@@stephengibbs8342 nope not at all i bet there is many fans today who like abney park
@@starwolfie5684 hope so, i want to hear more music from them
This video and song could be used as base of inspiration for some videogame
I will absolutely play that game. Hands down.
I always loved this song but what I realy liked was the few seconds the steamer was shown, I just love steam engines and the realy cool thing is the fact that I know how to operate a steamer.
Hmmmrrr i enjoy this music a lot :) Great stuff and absolutly cool tunes ^^
Wow now THAT is one awesome kid.
I'll follow Abney Park to the end of the world and back. No problem!
Sometimes cool guys DO look back at explosions!
Of course it is practical and allows you to see the explosion.
I know this is an old video and this song has been out for years, but I feel the need to tell you that my dad and I met you at a-kon one year when I was about 16 (im 27 now). You spoke about Victoria and the dream you had about it. You were a big point with us. That's a memory that I hold dear, and though my dad and I dont speak anymore, I love this music and this Era of your music holds a very very special place in my heart because my father and I bonded over it
Perfect.. Love it!! Chole is fantastic... the idea and the video!!
One of my favorite. Videos. 💝😊🌵
Great song, awesome video and adorable daughter! Brilliant! :)
Love this song!
have to say cuteiest song i ever heard plus best background story better then the songs being made today
In your face pre-school teacher, in your face!
So cute. :)
The prairie areas brought back fond recollections of my home.
Everytime I watch this video I notice something new.
That is an awesome video!!! I think the Captain's daughter has a lot of her dad's facial features. It's a great song (one of my favorites) and a wonderful video.
Thank you again for another great song and video
I've just had a sudden, bizzare image of yourself, using a large fishing hook over the bow of Ophelia to snare a Ural.
Ha! This is cool! Well Captain Robert, you are a parent I like! You must have been proud, considering that you wrote a song about it. (I know I commented earlier. But I find this song so refreshing and great that I realised I had not said all I wanted last time.)
Oh man her hair must have been a giant knot or two after that ride... Chloe should have used a little of whatever daddy puts in his hair to keep it from blowing around. ;D
