- Today we explore this abandoned pioneer cabin dating back to 1896, although earlier remnants have been discovered. In its hey-day (pardon the pun) 150 tons of hey were produced each year.

The rocking chair was a nice touch
What an appealing homestead, rustic but with a bathhouse and a very clean loo! I'd vastly prefer this kitchen over the stainless steel, granite countertop vibe. A step back in time but so well maintained. Only 40 cats?!! 😸😸😸
What a beautiful old ranch. I loved the stories too. Looked quite peaceful there. Thanks for the visit.
Glad you joined us Lorna.
Such a beautiful place especially the land. I’m glad someone is taking care of it. Thanks for sharing!
It is a beautiful place. Glad you enjoyed it Becky
I am surprised it is still well preserved so when can I move in😊. What a lovely setting . I am happy that someone cares enough to keep it like it was back then. 😊
And plenty of room for your horses.
@@PinInTheAtlas yes ,, that was very important back than . The number one necessity
How cool. I had to look at the location. What a wonderful find. This is only a few hours from my home. How cool. I found a new destination. Thanks you guys for another well produced story. 😎✌️
You’re welcome Tim. Enjoy your visit. There’s hiking trails there too.
What an interesting ranch house and building, with the luxury of a bath house, and a good water supply from the fas flowing creek. Wow! 4o cats. I costs us an arm and a leg to keep one in food - but she will only eat the best, I think she can read the price labels!
Thanks Brian. Couldn’t imagine having 40!
Pretty Country.
I love this ranch,I would live there and be caretaker. All the property is absolutely beautiful 👍❤️
They often look for caretakers Gayle.
thanks for this hang in there you guys you are appreciated.
Thanks Ken. We appreciate you too
What a beautiful place ! Like walking back in time.
It is indeed. Thanks for watching.
Another Awesome adventure with my pin and coffee ☕ beautiful place
Cool video and awesome country, Thanks for sharing with everyone
Well hello there and a tip of 🎩to you .Great find and all the do dads still there .I will come back and rewatch at a slower pace . When you're looking at the walls and you were looking for square nails have you ever heard of what they call the Lincoln logs were the logs are notched doing it that way you do not need spikes or nails to keep it togather .p s.This is the way it truly was and is nicer then those City museums .Take care ❤️🏆
Hi Case. Yes we have heard of Lincoln logs. Still surprised that we didn’t find any square ones though!
It certainly has been well taken care of.
I really like your channel. Informative, historical & off the beaten path. Thank you for what you do! Keep up this great work. For someone who is not out and about much, your channel helps with the desire to continue to explore!
Thank you very much, Bruce. Really appreciate your kind words. Lots more explores to come - every Tuesday. See you on our next adventure.
Interesting video and explore! I think your mystery device was a grinder for sharpening tools. 40 cats on a farm or a ranch was pretty common back then. They are a bit like rabbits when it comes to reproducing! I've mowed my grass now three times with my square nail repair.
Ahh a grinder. That makes sense Norm. Yes cat do kinda breed like rabbits but 40! Oh my.
@@PinInTheAtlas I don't know their story on the cats, but 40 inside cats would be a lot, but outside cats not so much! I'd be surprised if the 40 number lasted more than a few months at a time. Cats and rabbits tend to become food for other animals. Our farm was located on a state highway and that kept our outside cat population down to the mid 20s. About the time they got old enough to hunt mice ... the mice would run across the highway ... with the cats in chase mode!
@normstephens8354 ahhh squished kitty. How sad
Wow 😳 beautiful place awsome history I would live there right now
Awesome video.🥰
Thanks Jean
Loved the intro with all the brown tones (which happily continued in the rest of the video).
Good to see another well preserved site!
Thanks Peter
Cool explore and nicely put together.😊 Mom and dad looked a little mean. But hey, maybe I would've too, if I lived way out in the boonies with 9 screaming kids.😂😊
They did look somewhat stern but then again 9 kids and all the “work “ leading up to it would tire you out. 😂
@@PinInTheAtlas yep
All those buildings are in really good shape. I could see living in the main house. I'd like to commend the maid on the cleanliness of the "loo". 😜
@@lesleyrobbins1137 🤣
Thanks!
Wow. Thank you Tina. Really appreciate it ❤️

Andrea, it's cow manure. It's great fertilizer for your veggie garden. 😊
Cow poop! We used to collect horse poop for our 🌹 roses.
I used chicken poop for my veggie garden. Don’t think you can buy cow poop from the garden centre in the uk.
@@PinInTheAtlas just a matter of semantics I suppose. My father was able to get a lot of cow manure as we live in the San Joaquin Valley, and there's a lot of dairy and beef cattle here. My dad used anything he could get his hands on for the veggie garden, and one time he had turkey manure. He fertilized the tomatoes with that, some Beefsteak tomatoes and they were so huge, you had to hold them in both hands. So juicy too!!
Love the cook stove,in bunk house ,the smoke house looked wonderful ,but the main house,oh I love it You two are great❤️❤️❤️
Ahhh thank you Gayle.
I looked it up online. I know you mentioned there is a caretaker. That must be because it's protected by the Historical Commission. It said that it's open quite a few day a week. I hope that if I ever get out that way, I have a chance to visit that historic homestead. Thank you for bringing this to our attention., Andrea and Steven... very interesting... Do you have a P.O. Box?
🏡🙏🏻🤠🌞🤗💛
Lots of places offer caretaker positions. Even ghost towns!
Yes our mailing address is on our main page in the description. Let me know if you have trouble finding it.
@@PinInTheAtlas I found it.🤗
I see a common thread with all these structures, all of them have metal roofs..thanks for the video ..yall take care
Usually with an outhouse you got a back issue of the Sears Catalog!
Sorry I'm late but, I made it here. Another great video. 😊
Glad you joined us Keith.
As I viewed the photograph of the couple I am reminded that back in the day marriage had a business venture component. I studied the history of marriage and it was not like traditional marriage as we know it today. I see the business/survival component in other pictures, history of people, documentaries, TV westerns, western movies, and explorations, such as yours.
I am sure that some emotion aspect was involved or grew into existence, but they had to survive first and foremost. We all know that there are many things that men cannot do or struggle at and the same for women. So I see that men and women compliment each other. Some women are good at telling you their story is true and their 1/2 is important!!
🤣 well you know that 1/2 is important. True story
So what state are you in at this ranch?
Oregon. Riddle Ranch.
