That clean sound is amazing!! As you pointed out, this is the best sounding clean bridge pickup ever. Will definitely consider this brand if I need a replacement in the future 😍 Thanks Sean
Haha it’s a depressingly expensive and long list for a guitar that cost me about 1400 stock. I replaced the tuners with Gibson locking kluson tuners. Replaced the tailpiece with a callaham stainless steel bar. Replaced the wiring with an Emerson custom SG wiring kit. Added two Emerson custom treble bleeds to the volume knobs. Replaced the nut with a pre-cut stew Mac bone nut. Tried like 5-6 humbucker sets in it too!
Whoa! I love that! Thanks a ton Logan, I’m glad it was helpful. Drop me a line on Instagram with some clips, I would love to hear how you get on with them! instagram.com/edgeofbreakup
These are the best of the bunch by a MILE, wow. The bridge pickup is what sells it, normally I hate clean humbuckers bridge tone, this sounded incredible!!
Killer! Great demo and playing. 3 years ago, I bought a used 2019 LP Standard that had the Cremas in it. It also came with the original Burstbuckers. I kept the Cremas in for a week before putting the stock PUs in. The Burstbuckers didn’t last 3 days. The Cremas have been there ever since. I play: rock, hard rock and blues.
Now those sounds good. I would definitely put those in my 61 SG RI. The middle position became my favorite pretty quickly after playing it for a week or two. Tone down on the neck pick up and the tone up high on the bridge. Sort of gives you that out of phase sound. Those Benson amps really sound unique. Almost like a mix between an old Fender mixed with a Vox. Definitely hear that Vox break up and chime with the Fender cleans.
I have not tried either of those. Thanks a ton for watching! So glad you enjoyed :) Don’t forget to subscribe, tons more videos that you’ll dig if you like this one
I see your A string bridge saddle is fully forward - as was mine (same guitar). I needed another half a mm to get the intonation perfect so had to reverse the saddle. Interesting to see yours is on the cusp also.
Good eye, this guitar was ridiculously hard to get in tune, intimated, and stay in tune! I seriously learned how to work on guitars from this SG! Haha. Replaced tuners, nut, tailpiece, saddles, wiring kit, added treble bleeds…
Thank you, I had my doubts for a while there! Changing the nut and the tuners were probably the best choice because if you’re not well intonated nothing else matters - but of course, changing the pickups and wiring to Emerson Custom did the most to improve the tone 🔥
Great demo! Hard question to answer via text, but how would you describe these pickups in terms of feel? Would you say they’re “spongy”/responsive to pick attack? Thanks!
I would say they are not flubby ever, good tight low end, awesome clean and with gain, have that cool hollow single coil thing that most Humbuckers lack. Definitely worth checking out!!
Thanks dude! I know you’ve been a longtime watcher of this saga! It’s these and the Lollar El Rayos, they are so close when it comes to my own preferences. If you want to hear more of the Lambertones with pedals, check out my recent video of the Thorpy FX Scarlet Tunic! ruclips.net/video/or_v7Vdnzmo/видео.html
@@EdgeofBreakup Being, as you said, a long time watcher of the SG pickups saga, I couldn't avoid telling you that I finally got the Wizz Premium Clones installed in my Derek Trucks SG and they are simply outstanding. I know you aren't on a quest for an accurate PAF but you should consider trying a set of Wizz. Very clear, articulate and beautiful sounding. I'm sure they are very different from the El Rayo and Lambertone sets, because the resistance is quite different but I think you might like 'em. Cheers!
Ah I see you finally got them in! To my ear they're very similar to the El Rayos, just less of that very forward mid push I find most Lollar pickups to have. These seem to be more suited to your style of playing, would you agree?
Those two are my favorites of all time so far, but yes - the Lambertones are really fantastic for what I do! At this moment they are still in the guitar! :)
@@EdgeofBreakup Sweet, you're getting killer tones regardless :) Thinking of changing up the pickups in my DGT Standard (all mahogany) so your demo has been quite helpful! Thanks, man!
Wow clean notes sound round rather than just bright like a lot of other cleaner PAFs and P90s Was considering Fralin p92s or BKP Stormy Mondays for a PRS S2 Mira upgrade, but maybe these will help me enjoy using the Mira a little more for my indie aligned preferences
They are lower output, bright but hollow and agreeable to lovers of single coils. (That’s what I am) if you want to hear another demo with them with a lot of delicious gain, check it out here: ruclips.net/video/or_v7Vdnzmo/видео.htmlsi=Cxlu9hjrZELNgewf
They really sound great. I am thinking about putting one-of-them in my Suhr Strat, to pair with my Lollar Blonde's (mid & neck). I'd need it to to split-coil, so I retain that #2 position Knopfler-like tone??? I am wondering if the Volume-jump (single to humbucker) would be out-of-balance?
I would just throw it in there no mods first and see how it gets on… it’s already more single coil like than most humbuckers. You might be pleased as is!
@@EdgeofBreakup I agree, but I also do alot of R&B and need that Landau Tri-Chorus in-between-thing (equally as much) and my Zeppelin and Van Halen tones. I do love em. Kerry 2 Smooth uses them too. Enjoyed your presentation. oNe LovE from NYC
Can always rely on neck middle for that, vs bridge middle. I personally have never owned an HSS strat so I’m not sure what you’d get in bridge middle position. Intrigued tho!
Hey there, I simply hold down the last fret on the low E string and then adjust the pick up pole piece as high as it can go without hitting the string when picked aggressively. I then repeat the same thing with the high E string. I do the above process for both the neck and bridge pickups.
Awesome video! I am really curious the difference between Crema, lollar el rayo and lollar imperial in terms of sensitivity and the clean sound. I am interested in getting one of these pickups for a tele but I can’t decide between these 3 as they all seem to be very nice. Since you have tried all 3 of them, would you mind sharing a little bit of your insight 🙏🏻 thanks
I’ve got the Lambertones Cremas in my Frank Arcade solid body, all korina - and they pair fantastically. Great clean tones as well as stellar overdriven or with fuzz. The El Rayos have similar strengths, fantastic clean or driven. The Imperials I’d only recommend in a semi hollow body, and they are not as compelling clean as they are driven - but with some heat in a semi hollow, they rule. Hope that helps!
@@EdgeofBreakup it’s a wide range humbucker pickup from Lollar, lots of good review i heard from this pickup.. need a comparison between these Lambertones vs Lollar 😀
@@EdgeofBreakup Spoke to Kurtis this morning and told him how helpful your video was to me. Have you ever done a video with his "Triple Shot" Strat PUs?
I love that, thanks for passing along this feedback! I have a set of Triple Shots just for that purpose, it’s just a matter of time and like 40 demos in the works and I need time to install them! Can’t wait to try em.
By the way, did you see the Thorpy FX Scarlet Tunic? I used the Lambertones Cremas on that, and you can hear some huge tones through that amazing pedal into my benson. ruclips.net/video/or_v7Vdnzmo/видео.html
I’m very biased, but for me the lowput hums give me more flexibility and clarity when I want to go clean. I can’t get out of that situation with higher output, whereas I can always add more gain or boost with pedals. But I am notorious for liking low output across my entire rig, and I really hate cloudy congested mid heavy humbuckers… everyone is on their own journey tho. that clean at the beginning of the demo, brought tears to my eyes. no more wandering. SG+Cremas, match made in heaven!
So good together!! Make sure to check out my demo of the Thorpy Scarlet Tunic as well, the Cremas sound insane in it!
