Most awesome video presentation I've ever seen on tennis instruction. The split screen technique where you combine the side view and back view is awesome! Very intuitive instructions. Keep up the great videos guys!
Scott - You're exactly correct. I'm a 3.5, and my biggest issue is on serves to my backhand I can't get my grip changed quickly enough, and end up slicing out of desperation. I'm initially in my forehand grip, so I guess I simply need to practice this more.
William Jeffreys a lot of players we work with complain of the same issue off the return that you face. By keeping the dominate hand in a forehand grip you still lean towards the strength but with the NDH on the grip you are certainly ready for a backhand as well. Keep working on it and you’ll be dominating returns in no time! Thanks for watching!
It's good to learn about the grip for the return of serve. I once thought this might be the right way, but I didn't know anyone who's teaching this, so I wasn't sure. This is the only way you don't have to change the grip for forehand or backhand (well, you could use the continental grip for both, perhaps), and that's important for a quick return. 1:15
I do not understand this split step thing before the return... Seems like killing mobility. I feel like making one or two steps forward is more natural
Keyzer when performed incorrectly the split step can in fact kill mobility. We want to spring load to ensure we are on the balls of our feet in order to quickly move to the ball. If we land on our heels or mistime the split step it can be detrimental to the return. When done correctly it’s a huge asset however. Thanks for watching!
To be fair a flow step is much more efficient and is what most people should be learning, If you watch the pros when they split the left or right leg will come down first and it depends on the shot you are trying to hit and of course weather you are left or right handed, basically if you want to go left the right leg should be coming down first to weight yourself left, and vice versa on the right side the left leg should come down first. A traditional split step is only really beneficial for a ball coming right at you.
rugcutter284 totally understand your point of view as it it’s one shared fairly often. The PYC rating system is pertinent for our community members. Outside of our YT videos we have a large platform that pairs players for practice, match play and the challenge ladder. The rating system works in alignment with the challenge league. Long winded, perhaps but the call to action is necessary for our members. Thanks for the feedback. :)

Tennis return of serve: can I stand at net to receive serve??
haha, that could be dangerous depending on your opponent but no you must let the serve bounce.

Why even need to jump to right position for returning a service . Why just not stand in right position

0:28 If it is for players rated 4.0 - just say: 4.0. Standard rating and language everyone understands

This is soooooo wrong- it should be "'we' as coaches". PS, these are both great new tips, at least for me.
