  • Victoria Falls (aka Vic Falls) visit in February 2020. Victoria Falls, on the border of Zimbabwe and Zambia, is neither the widest nor the highest waterfall in the world, but it is one of the world's Big 3. David Livingstone, who viewed the falls in 1855 wrote that "scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by Angels in their flight".
Also known as Mosi Oa Tunya, (translated as "The Smoke That Thunders"), at full flow, Victoria Falls, at 1708 metres wide is the largest continuous curtain of water in the world. The force of the water hitting the bottom of the 110 metre high chasm, generates a cloud of spray 300 metres high, that can be seen from many miles away.
The water is highest in April, our visit was in February, which is actually a good time to visit as the falls are still visible. At full flood the spray is so intense that it virtually hides the falls from view. Contrary to claims in some recent video posts, Victoria Falls are most definitely not running dry. But tell me what you think after watching this video!
We also enjoyed an eventful "sunset" cruise and dinner on the Zambezi River, accompanied by a massive thunder storm, a helicopter flight over the falls and some great shopping in town.
    We stayed at Shongwe Oasis.

My passion is to travel, and I’ve been fortunate enough to have done my share of exploring the world, camera in hand. I'm a travel fanatic, keen angler, photographer, videographer and occasional travel writer. With a particular weakness for road trips in the great open spaces of Africa, and exploring tropical Indian Ocean Islands. But actually, I'm a fan of anywhere that I haven’t yet been, wherever that might be.

Thanks for showcasing Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 ; consider Chimanimani in the Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe if you are up again, it has 5 waterfalls, not as large as Vic Falls, but very scenic and understated.

Thanks Dzidzai, we are planning a road trip to Zimbabwe later this year, if all goes well. The Eastern Highlands is most definitely one of the places we'll visit.

Hi there Rich, our visit was some time ago, but I did check the Wild Horizons website. They have 2 options, a short trip for US$300 and a longer one for US$568 per person. I hope that helps.

Why is Zimbabwean government failing to come up with proper regulations so Zimbabwe not South Africa, benefits from international tourists' visits to our country?

Hmmm, not sure I understand your point Nxopi. This isn't a political focused channel, and I can't claim to be particularly knowledgeable, so let me say that up front. But to the best of my knowledge, income from tourism in Zimbabwe doesn't benefit South Africa. Apart from the airline that flew us to Zimbabwe, all the businesses that we used; our hotel, river cruise, helicopter tour and local taxis, are all Zimbabwean owned. But maybe I'm missing something?

@@Kangela hi there. Just came across your channel. It's lovely. Just on your point that income from tourism in Zimbabwe doesn't benefit South Africa, I've seen with my own eyes travel agancies in Europe advertising holiday packages in Africa, particularly Egypt, Kenya and South Africa. But looking under the South African package I always saw Victoria Falls. Meaning they package Victoria Falls as part of "South Africa". The tourists then visit South Africa, on say a 10 day holiday package, fly into Victoria Falls to view the falls then fly back out without spending even a night. This issue was brought up many years ago but still nothing has been done. Just wanted to let you know. Travel agencies in Europe market Victoria Falls as part of South Africa and that country gets a huge chunk of the money tourists spending very little in Zimbabwe.

Thanks for that insight, it’s definitely something that we should be concerned about.
