- I recently test drove the New Ford Fiesta Rally3, hear my thoughts in this video!
M-Sport Poland held the test day at the Silesia Ring in Poland, we had the opportunity to have a passenger ride on gravel and drive the car on tarmac! Thank you for the invite!

This car looks mega. As impressive as modern WRC cars are - and they absolutely are, with their downforce and elec-diffs - this car is much more important for world rally and its accessibility. I think this car is an absolute game changer, and I can't wait for the other manufacturers to catch and start producing their own Rally3 cars.
Yeah lets hope there are more and more of these cars soon. It was really great to drive, so much grip and sliding at the same time!
@@JonArmstrongRallying The best I can hope for is that a reasonable representation shows up in a rally game soon LOL.
Glad you had fun.
@@petertromp8786 The model is already in rbr. We all waiting for the Homologation Papers which should come in March.
Yeah agreed.
@@JonArmstrongRallying The junior classes where always pretty dull, with gutless NA engines, and 2WD. That changed somewhat with the introduction of kitcars. But of course costs quickly escalated.
However, I have to say the current R3 & R4 cars, are very cool. Maybe it’s the extra character from the 3-cylinder engine - plus the meaty torque they deliver. The new 4WD R3 cars are exactly what the sport needs. There’s also potentially a great marketing link with the road if we see more manufacturers build 4WD hot hatches. I certainly think that’s the future after the glowing reception of the GR Yaris.
Proudly developed in M-sport Poland, near Karków
Please FORD! Make a 4WD Fiesta road car! Otherwise I'll buy a GR Yaris.
I would love to see that!
Time to bring this to DR 3.0..
As DLC for DR2.0 ;-)
I'd love to see a comparison between a Rally3 and a top class Group N car, this category is supposed to phase out Group N. Great vid Jon, awesome content, keep it coming!
sweet omboard! sound from the engine is good to
Good video! I hope this car becomes a big hit on European rally stages this season!
I am happy to see the Fiesta still being used in rally. I don't like the three cylinder, but I am interested to see how it performances.
Why don't you like the 3 cylinder engine?
@@bakersmileyface My opinion is because of the size of the three cylinder. That's subjective. But if there is a data out there supporting 3 cylinders I am open to reading it. What do you like in reference to the size of the engine? I always wanted that engine from Mitsubishi that was in the Evo before they discontinued it.
@@TonyJer04 Ooh I love evos 😍
But engine size doesn't really matter so much to me as long as it performs well. I used to hate 3 cylinders as well but they seem to have made a lot of progress on making them survive longer so I'm cool with them now.
I suppose I would say 2ltr 4cyl is my sweet spot since I live in rural England. Lots of windy tight roads, lots of dirt and gravel. Much more would be overkill and under that is okay, but not the best of the bunch. That's the way I see it
Anyway Im not trying to convince you to like them, I was just curious why you didn't.
@@bakersmileyface That's a concern too of mines on how long will a 3 cylinders last. It was nice getting to know you for a little. I look forward to a new Ford Fiesta ST model. I am tempted to purchase a 3 cylinder engine with all wheel drive. I wish the Ford Fiesta ST was all wheel drive. You can do conversions, but I can't afford that. 😅
@@TonyJer04 Haha I'm on the same boat my friend. I got tempted by the GR Yaris just because of that AWD, but I'm holding out in hopes for a better fiesta one day.
Hey Brotha. It's been a minute, great to see you in an actual car my man!! I can see your smile under the mask!!
Ah!!!! So pleased for you!!
its good to finnally able to hear about this car since for the fia rally star programme you get to drive this car if you do well enough though its challenges
Living the dream 👍
That car Looks so Good from the front!
That R5 style rear wing also helps keep the car more level over jumps/yumps as well.
BTW; Were those Monte (cold weather) compound tarmac P Zeros on the car for your test laps??
Ooh what a machine, hopefully we'll see you in comp with one some time in the future.
No friggin way jon! i bet you was buzzing mate.
Yeah it was great, now I need more! :D
Nice one Jonny boy !!!
What a beaut 😍
Amazing vid Jon!, love this little pocket rocket. Can you confirm the engine is a 3 cylinder?, because i remember people from msport saying the final car would have a 4 cylinder 1.5 (for extra torque).
Btw, are those rims 18"?. Car looks really nice
100% it is a 3 cylinder (same engine as the ST Fiesta) and those are 17 inch tarmac rims 😊
@@JonArmstrongRallying Hope this car will be featured in the upcoming DIRT WRC game, with you as one of the category drivers. Good luck💪
That thing looks very handy :) Nice vid as well thanks. (co-driver seat is a bit low isn't it :D )
That is usually done on purpose, both for a lower center of gravity, and to reduce any distractions to the co-driver from reading the pace notes.
Pls tell me youre driving this instead of the rally 4 car
needs more cowbell!
Czy tor silezja ci się spodobał?
Interesting watch Jon. May be difficult to tell from the conditions and your short drive, but how do you think it might compare on dry tarmac to a Rally 4 car? It's a bit heavier, but obviously has more torque. It would be interesting to see how a Rally 4 car compared in somewhere like Corsica, where the traction advantage of 4WD wouldn't be such a big factor
I think the traction of 4wd will always come out on top. Maybe some stages the Rally4 could get close, but in general I think the Rally3 will be quite a bit faster!
@@JonArmstrongRallying I think you're right that on most events, the Rally 3 will be a lot quicker. On dry, fast, flowing tarmac, I think it would be a fascinating comparison. I could see the two being pretty close
After few deep cuts by WRC or R5 cars corners in tarmac rallies are half covered by dirt, stones and grass.
@@maximumattackrallying On some radically tight, switch-backed roads (like an unusually WARM, dry Monte Turini stage) I can see the FWD cars coming close, where using the hand brake to rotate around those 180s+ could make up for the rear drive rotation a bit, maybe.
But anywhere else (even Corsica) I don't think so.
Don't the Rally3 cars have wider/grippier wheel and tire width allowances, as well as bigger brakes allowed under their 17" tarmac wheels, over the R2T/Rally 4 cars, by the FIA rules as well??
400 N-m of torque from 3 cylinders!
GR Yaris numbers :))
5:20 hahaha
Maybe time to trade in the RS? 😂 🤤
The RS plus some bags of cash 💰 😀
@@JonArmstrongRallying Could one of these EVER possibly be made into a street, insurable, MOT legal road car, even in England/Europe??
2 laps 😔 thats well not enough.
