It's capable of +30dB of clean boost thanks to the pre-gain stage which can take the BB Pre from transparent sparkling boost to creamy overdrive. The BB Preamp is my favorite drive pedal. Seems I can't get a bad sound out of it, from using it as a clean boost, to adding drive on the lead channel for a more metal lead sound. This demo is what sealed the deal for me. And great playing, BTW.

Awesome pedal! I play my BB through my 65 Princeton Reverb reissue. It took a little time to get a completely transparent tone. I set it up so when the volume is backed off on my guitar, it sounds clean and sparkly just like the Princeton. Roll up the volume and it's true grit! By switching pickups and riding the volume pot, I can get any sound I want!

Really cool phrasing in this playing
After trying a few tubescreamers and other overdrives and feeling a bit confused, I tried this one after an employee suggested it and it immediately felt right. The amount of control you get over your bass and treble is really huge. And if you start maxing the gain and put lots of trebble and low end in there, you can really play some heavy stuff as well. It's an expensive pedal, but you will probably use it forever.

Great pédal but as overdrive you ll find better production. His best use is as boost. Dont buy this pédal for overdrive. I usé bb preamp for at least 5 years, and the strong point of this pédal is boosting signal in the front of an amp volume on 10 gain on 0, it add something warm on the higher string and the précision especially on a distorded channel. If you want classic british sound the bogner Lagrange is better, thats m'y thought. But the bb is à true swiss knive, even on the front of a crappy solid stage it give you précision, the pédal is pretty clean, the résultats on a powerball single recto 6505 jsx....just make this amp prescsise. Its pretty impressive on the single recto, on the mark 4too

over the minor chord was truly inspiring. Off to the wood shed to cop some of your stuff and experiment with settings. May just replace the Sparkle Drive in my pedal board if I can get the tele mild OD tone sweet like you.

I had the Xotic RC Booster first and then I bought the Xotic BB Pre-Amp. Both units are absolutely KILLER. I fell in love with both units however I will stick to the BB Pre-Amp for this comment. I have been playing since 1979. Being from Philadelphia growing up everyone had Gibson Les Paul's and Marshall Stacks. So, that's what my ear is used to hearing. The Xotic BB Pre-Amp is the BEST OD unit I have ever used. I just placed an order for another one which I will keep for the rest of my life. It's not a TS808 on steroids at all. Just listen to this guy wail away. To me it has all the compression and gain that reminds me of "Classic Rock" sounds.

I know. I have a Danelectro Cool Cat Drive v.1 that was $29.99 when it was still being made. It sounds like a $100 overdrive and almost as good as the OCD it's supposed to be copying. The Bad Monkey are similar in terms of intended design and control (tubescreamer influenced, bass, treble, gain, volume), but the Bad Monkey has a compression in the gain structure that either works really well for you or doesn't. Also, the Xotic will color the tone less when bypassed. There are no rules though.
Great pedal... but wow can this guy play some guitar. I been at it over 40 years, and I am impressed. Great voicing and phrasing. Kudos!
I much prefer the treb and bass knobs on this over the tone knob on my Maxon OD808.

Do you work out these solo arrangements ahead of time, or just wing it and see what happens? Either way, fantastic playing, phrasing, and tone.

This pedal never seizes to amaze me! As overdrive on a clean channel it cuts through a mix like nothing I've ever owned or tried. To boot it's amazing when stacked with an overdrive channel too. Just brought a bogner blue to setup but they thought the BB cut better! I would buy anything that cuts like this!
Would you say this has more potential to be a light overdrive than the OCD? I love my OCD but I really want something that's not as overdriven, just a nice little bite not so much that "distortion" sound which the OCD does well

Hi, congrats for your playing ! Is it comparable to the MI effect cross over drive you tested a few time ago ? Seems to be more open sounding and clear, may be dynamic. But the MI is sold to be very responsive... difficult to say behind a computer :-) Thank you !

Sorry if this is a newbie question. Is the tone stack before or after the gain circuit? Is it guitar->eq->preamp, or guitar->preamp->eq?

Yes, i A/B'd it vs my Marshall Blues Breaker pedal. Sounded almost identical (depending on the Treble/Bass settings). I loved it, but already had the Marshall so back it went.

Hello I need a recommendation to buy an overdrive, I am undecided between this pedal (ecstasy blue) or the bb Preamp xotic, I am looking for something transparent that sounds defined, that sounds good in the clean channel and that also heats the tubes of my tube amp when want to use the overdrive channel. Apart from being versatile, what pedal would you advise me?
