What made me get up in the morning back in the days was that I'd put my phone on the other side of the room with volumes high AF, and Have my alarm clock as the most inapporpiate "Skip the lovin' and get to fuxkin' " ratchet "You better have that child support money" types of song. (Mind y'all I was in middle/high school and lived with my parents). Every time my phone went off, Id run like hell to turn that shit off before my parents could hear. It'll give me a heart attack every morning but at least I got out of my bed.

The whole basis if meditation is not to have no thought. Having excessive thoughts is only a display of the vast emptiness that is your mind. You must acknowledge and watch your thoughts pass by without chasing then and be in awe of the things your mind can produce.
I recently listened to Sam Harris saying something very simple and reasonable. We tend to just assume to be good at things like focusing, relaxing, thinking, anything that requires mental work, or no work. But if we want to become better runners, get stronger etc. we understand that we need to practice. Our brain is adaptive, just like we adapt to physical exercise we can adapt to mental exercise. Hence why practising mental awareness with such as meditation can help a lot.
